Winner of the Directors Guild of America ‘Directors Finders’ Series 2011, Ballymun Lullaby is a compelling, inspirational documentary exploring the heart of a local community through music. Music teacher Ron Cooney has worked in Ireland’s only high-rise housing estate for 15 years. During this time he has seen the area undergo dramatic transformations. This film follows Ron and the young people of Ballymun as they work together to produce a collection of music that gives voice to their story. Working with composer Daragh O’Toole, Ron’s ambition is to create a ‘world class’ collection of music for his talented students to play and write lyrics for. This music will challenge the negative views many still hold of the area. The music produced was recorded by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra in a unique collaboration with the students. A dynamic funny and driven man, despite his own health problems, what Ron and his students have achieved is simply remarkable. Introduced By Composer Daragh O’Toole and Producer Joanne O’Hagan

Daragh O’Toole: A Dublin based composer with a broad interest in musical styles. Along with his soundtrack and concert work he has also written arrangements for acts such as U2 and Paddy Casey. Joanne O Hagan : Established PULP Productions in 2003, and is Managing Director and Producer. Ballymun Lullaby is PULP’s feature. Joanne is CEO of the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival.

THE ROAD FROM CALCUTTA

Seventeen teenage students from a Dublin school raise money and travel to West Bengal to build two schools in a monsoon area in a four week period. This film humorously shows from the students’ perspective what happens next, as they get to grips with the local Indian culture and interact with the local villagers. “The Road From Calcutta” is a joyous journey of discovery, told with wry humour and lots of music, as two cultures meet... Documenting the visually stunning, extraordinary story of the huge impact a small Dublin school can have in helping children in West Bengal. The remarkable account of the work in India by the John Scottus School. Introduction by Director Ronan O’ Leary

Ronan O’Leary began his career as a producer-director for PBS TV in Los Angeles. His film credits include the screenplay for Noel Pearson’s “Frankie Starlight” starring Gabriel Byrne and Matt Dillon, and “Driftwood” starring James Spader, which he also directed. Following the teenage obsessions of Maeve and her three friends, 32A is a bittersweet tale set in the “in-between” time of a girl’s life, when she is no longer a child and not yet a woman. 32A is a sensitive, thoughtful coming of age story of a 13-year old girl in 1979 Ireland. “The film’s raw emotion, honesty and intuitive use of humour combine to portray a must-see coming-of-age story. Maeve is the perfect combination of selfishness, nobility, charm and awkwardness.” Herald Record, Wisconsin “Refreshingly simple, a coming of age drama laced with easy charm and a touch of class.” Sunday Tribune 32A premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh, winning the Best First Feature Award. It won the inaugural Tiernan McBride Screenwriting Award, an IFTA for Cinematography and was selected for the Berlinale. 32A has toured to festivals worldwide from Seattle to Melboune, from Madrid to Mill Valley.
