A
round fifty years ago, my family and I started the Corinthia enterprise as a fine dining restaurant on the Mediterranean island of Malta, our home. We have since evolved into a multinational family of luxury hotels. And yet, as we continue to extend our interests and scale new heights, we remain true to our roots as a family business. We are determined to provide personal, intuitive service. At the core of this determination is our devotion to craftsmanship. We are inspired by dedicated craftsmen, such as the stonemason, master carpenter and maestro musician. Like them, we always do more than is strictly necessary. We keep going until we have transformed the mundane into the magical. Within our hotels, we craft an environment that makes our guests feel special from the moment they arrive. DISCOVER ST PETERSBURG A city of palaces and museums, broad avenues and winding canals, St Petersburg’s impressive history has endowed the city with a wealth of architectural and artistic treasures. Alongside world-famous attractions such as The Hermitage Museum, St Isaac’s Cathedral, and the Mariinsky Theatre, the city has scores of lesser-known but equally fascinating sights. These enigmatic sites reveal the pomp and extravagance of St Petersburg’s political and Imperial past, and also belie the mysterious, tragic genius that has touched so many of the city’s great artists and writers. Still considered Russia’s cultural capital, St Petersburg reflects the country’s extraordinary fate like no other city, and its uniquely rich atmosphere exerts a powerful grip on every traveler.

GETTING THERE
WHEN TO GO
One of the most popular attractions in the city, if not the world, is the stunning Winter Palace. The official residence of the Russian monarchs and an iconic symbol of the Russian Revolution is now a museum housing the world’s biggest collection of masterpieces – the State Hermitage Museum.
By air: St Petersburg is easily accessible from Europe and Asia with many international airlines servicing St Petersburg International Airport, Pulkovo (LED).
From mid-May to mid-July, the city’s famous White Nights draw tourists to St Petersburg. Due to St Petersburg’s northern geographical location, the sun never descends deep enough below the horizon for the sky to get dark. Dusk meets dawn during the summer months, and it is so bright that the street lights are not turned on and the city comes alive with an enthralling calendar of festivals and events.
Another must-see is the beautiful 19th century St Isaac’s Cathedral, with its gold dome and sumptuous marble interior. The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, another impressive landmark, harks back to traditional Medieval Russian architecture. Visitors can also wind their way through a maze of rivers and channels using the city’s 539 bridges – more than Venice, Stockholm or Amsterdam.
By train: National and international trains arrive into city’s four railway stations. Travelling from Moscow by road takes less than four hours. By sea: Located at the western tip of Vasilievsky Island, the Sea Station is the main port for passenger boats and cruise ships in St Petersburg.
While summer is spectacular, winter is equally beautiful in St Petersburg. When a blanket of snow covers the city, it’s the perfect place to experience a white Christmas. Fun seasonal activities such as troika rides, ice-skating and ice fishing entice visitors outdoors, and if the cold is too much, the city’s numerous museums, galleries and shops offer the perfect alternative. 7

A MEETING OF SHARP MINDS In partnership with renowned Nutritional Therapist Jeanette Hyde, Corinthia has created ‘Food for Thought’, a pioneering menu concept featuring a range of delicious dishes designed to maximise delegates’ productivity. These unique super-food menus combine local inspiration and ingredients with leading nutritional advice to optimise healthy brain function. Essential proteins, whole-grains and rainbows of fresh vegetables are in, and white-refined carbohydrates, sugars, and gluten are out. This simple formula, along with turbo health foods such as kefir, flax oil, chia seeds and dark raw chocolate, ensure delegates’ sugar levels are constant thus promoting optimum brain function and steady energy and concentration levels. FOOD FOR THOUGHT Menus only include foods which promote steady brain activity, by eliminating the highs and lows in concentration and mood created by poor diet choices from traditional meetings menus.
