Concerning pandemics in 2 Chronicles 7: 13-14 God says,“When … I send pestilence … If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and heal their land.” The coronavirus may not be one of the seven plagues mentioned in the Book of Revelation—it’s too mild compared to the terrors that will be unleashed during the Great Tribulation. However, this and other plagues such as Ebola are warnings of plagues to come in the last days. Suddenly, the world has been caught short. Britain said NO to Billy Graham’s son. Franklin Graham was not welcome to preach in various venues, so God closed down all venues. God is not mocked. Yet the Almighty seeks intercessors to stand in the gap, to repent on behalf of our nations. It’s vital to engage in Identificational Repentance to stop the plague. Identificational Repentance is part of decreeing a matter.
We have an example in Numbers 16 when Aaron the high priest took his incense burner, a symbol of prayer, and stood between the living and the dead to make atonement, and the plague was stopped. Daniel the prophet also engaged in Identification Repentance on behalf of his people. He confessed that God was
perfectly righteous in bringing judgment upon his people because, as he said in Daniel 9:14, “we obeyed not his voice.”
“And now, Daniel prayed…. “WE have sinned, WE have done wickedly.” Notice Daniel didn’t say, my people have sinned, but he identified corporately with his people in prayer. “O Lord, according to all thy righteousness, I beseech thee, let thine anger and thy fury be turned away from thy city Jerusalem.” [We can pray like Daniel, “O Lord, let thy anger be turned away from Washington, DC, from London, etc, because of our sins and the iniquities of our fathers.”] Identificational Repentance is prayer that identifies with a person’s family or nation and confesses the corporate sins of a people, church or nation because gross sins hinder healing and revival.
During this global emergency, let’s learn to repent of sins even though we may not have been personally responsible. We can confess national sins as ours and repent on behalf of people when they are unable to do so. And isn’t that what Jesus did for us on the cross? While we were yet sinners, Jesus patiently bore our sins. The final sacrifice for sins was made by Jesus willingly on the cross. If you turn your back on Jesus, you will die in the excrement of your own sins. That would be like living in a major epidemic and having no face mask, no gloves, no hand sanitizer, no vaccine. We need the covering of the precious blood of Jesus over the doorposts of our hearts!
