What is Mead Community Day?

Plexus Introduced to I-25 Corridor Communities

by Jan Sciacca Those of you who know Tiffany Holcomb (left) of Mead, will smile when you hear that she’s now using her connection and organization skills to assist those with preexisting health concerns (especially diabetes) to lose weight, reduce anxiety and feel great. Tiffany is passionate about Plexus products because they’ve helped her personally. She says “Plexus Worldwide has products that have helped to reduce my anxiety level; that have helped me to overcome my weight loss plateau, which I can share with others.” Plexus Worldwide has developed a healthy method to help individuals lose weight, but they have taken their organization a step further, by offering products that include: vitamins, body creams, breast health, pain relief and more. Consider this testimony:

When I (left) started Plexus, I was completely frustrated that I could not lose the last of my baby weight. I was skeptical about Plexus but willing to give it a try after seeing all of the great testimonials. I lost 2 pants sizes in 5 weeks and the best part, I have kept it off since then!! Mead Community Day was started over 25 years ago by the United Methodist Church as a pot luck/ talent show in the park. A pig was donated by a local farmer to be roasted and community members brought a side dish to share. From its inception Community Day was an opportunity for fellowship and to raise money to help those in need. Donations were collected from the meal and used to help out families in the community, an event/ organization, or to help improve the town. In 2007 the Community Day committee decided to start the scholarship fund as a means to help reward student for their involvement, commitment and dedication to our community. Last years Community Day event was affected by the flooding and renovation of the Town Hall. This year we are scheduled to be back in the Town Hall and pending any natural disaster we are planning to go back to some of the original traditions of the event. For starters the event will be moved to the afternoon/evening (except for the Roy’s Run 5k Race which will be at 8:00 a.m.) Kids activities and vendor booths will begin at 2:30. The parade will be at 4:30 p.m. down Main Street and dinner will begin at 5:00 p.m. in the Mead Town Park. The prize drawing will begin at 6:00 p.m. For the first time in many years we will be having a talent show as part of the schedule of events. Information on auditions for that will be posted on the Town’s website by August 6, 2014. Thanks to the generosity of Anadarko the Community Day Committee has lined up FACE vocal music group to come and perform after the talent show. Fireworks will begin around 9:00p.m. Keep an eye on the website for updates on Community Day, opportunities to volunteer, sponsor and participate in the event! 2014 Mead Community Day Schedule of Events 8:00 a.m. Roy’s Run 5K Race 2:30 p.m. Kid’s Activities in the park 2:30 p.m.—3:30 p.m. Cookie Contest entries dropped off 2:30 p.m. –7:00 p.m. Vendor Booths 4:30 p.m. Parade 5:00 p.m.-6:00p.m. Dinner 6:00p.m.-7:00p.m. Prize Drawing 7:00p.m.– 8:00 p.m. Talent Show 8:00p.m.– 9:00 p.m. FACE Concert 9:00 p.m. FIREWORKS

Bits & Pieces Town of Mead

MEAD MAYOR, GARY SHIELDS  It is hard to believe that July is almost over and August is already upon us. As I look forward to the coming month, I am reminded of school starting, hot temperatures, last minute get-a-ways and the start of the NFL pre-season.  As we all know, August can be pretty hot here in Colorado and a lot of times we can experience drought conditions. For this reason, I would like to remind everyone to consider cutting back on watering in order to conserve this very valuable resource.  I hope that you have all been able to spend some time outdoors this summer with friends and family enjoying our wonderful weather and our great state. If not, I would encourage you to plan a trip to Mead where you can spend a day with the family at the Mead Ponds, just west of town on CR 34 or at Historic Highland Lake at CR 5 and CR 36. These are both great family day trips and I am told that the fish are active at both locations. If fishing doesn’t appeal to you, we have several local parks with shelters that are available for reservation by calling the town hall @ 970-535-4477.

 Town of Mead Fall Volleyball sign-ups for 3rd – 8th graders are already under way and continue through August 22th, the sign up forms can be obtained at the temporary town hall located at 4155 Mulligan Drive within the Sekich Business Park at I-25 and Hwy. 66.  The newly remodeled town hall is scheduled to be completed in the middle of August and staff and town’s folk alike are looking forward to returning to a sense of normal. It has been an inconvenience for us all at times but I am sure that we all can agree that the building is looking very impressive and will serve as a cornerstone for the community for many decades to come.  In closing, I would like to remind you all of a couple of local events that are coming in September so that you will have plenty of time to plan ahead and attend. Mead Community Days on the 13th is our town’s signature community event and The Sugarbeet Festival sponsored by the Mead Rotary Club is on September 27th.

Board News

 The Board made two appointments to the Planning Commission. Tara Jensen was appointed to fill a term expiring in December 2017, Judith Perez was appointed to an alternate position.  The Board approved Resolution 25-R-2014 which established a process to maintain and repair Town streets and roads that are impacted by oil and gas development. The resolution establishes a process to inspect roads and streets prior to the start of oil and gas operation and again once it is completed. The resolution requires oil and gas operators to meet regularly with town staff to discuss not only roads but impacts to the community.  Several change orders were approved for the town hall remodeling project. Two change orders dealing with the parking lot and the handicap ramp were postponed until the next meeting.  Community Room/Park Reservation Policies were provided to the Board. The policies added new parks and facilities recently accepted by the Town. It is also attempted to unify the fees for similar facilities on different parks. No fees are required to use the Town Parks. However, if you want to reserve a park facility for a family gathering you have the opportunity to do so. This document also clarifies the rules for using parks and facilities.  Ordinance # 745 was approved. This ordinance is regarding the use of certain streets by trucks and commercial vehicles exceeding one and one-half tons. It prohibits semi-trucks and larger commercial vehicles from parking on residential streets.  The Board authorized JVA Engineering to prepare the final documents for the Hilltop Road Paving project in the amount of $30,100.00.  Rick Samson, Town Attorney, reported that the closing on the Derrick property took place on June 30, 2014. This property is located on the southwest corner of 3rd Street and Welker Avenue. The Town is purchasing the property to secure much needed right-of way at this intersection.  Project Status Update: The 3rd Street Trail Project has been put out o bid. The Town has secured right-of-way on the west side of 3rd Street across from the Mulligan Lake Estates. The Town is in discussions with the State Land Board and the Guardian Angels Church to acquire right-of way to extend the 8 foot path from Adams Avenue to Welker Avenue. Construction on at least a portion of the path will occur yet this summer. The Town’s goal is to ultimately construct a path from the Mead Middle School to the Mead High School.

www.1momscareerqwest.com - a local blog by Jan Sciacca Upon graduating from college in August of 2013, with Bachelors’ Degrees in both Public Relations/ Marketing and Business Administration, Tiffany Holcomb thought finding employment in a position that she would enjoy would be easy. Surprising to her though was that as a wife and mother with 3 children, breaking into the workforce and balancing her family life seemed impossible. Tiffany thought surely other parents were experiencing this issue, so in October 2013 she decided to create a blog to share her experience, her trials and her accomplishments with others in similar situations. The blog is for any parent or individual who is in need of creating professional and personal balance in his or her life. 1 Mom’s Career Quest, a blog, is Tiffany’s way of helping others and herself to overcome the challenge of finding “the” dream job and balancing one’s family life. In todays’ world, it’s challenging to separate the two worlds of career and family. Finding a method to cope, manage, or pacify your feelings has an amazing impact on one’s own happiness as well as the happiness of those you love. The blog is therapeutic for Tiffany and she hopes that others will be inspired to create their own balanced life, as well as to share their tips on balancing life and time management. Every Monday a new topic is posted on the site. Tiffany hopes that by sharing her personal experience, others will feel less alone in their journey. Tiffany was pleased when recently two community “locals” told her that they were familiar with 1 Mom’s Career Quest. In addition, Stacey Donelson, of Good Life Acupuncture & Wellness Center, enjoys reading the blog and encourages Tiffany in its publishing. commenting and asking what I was doing, I decided to become an ambassador. Since I started Plexus, I have much more energy than before. Plexus Worldwide launched in early 2011, with the main office located in Scottsdale, AZ. Instead of setting up retail space to sell the Plexus product line, the organization choose to depend on Ambassadors to promote and market their goods. Here is another testimony and photo:

P l e x u s Worldwide’s core values are to be trustworthy, honest, reliable and responsible. Tiffany became an Ambassador in June of this year and believes that she may be the only Plexus Ambassador in Colorado. Although she can sell products anywhere in the U. S., northern Colorado is her target area. There are new promotions and events happening every month and testimonials on Tiffany’s website. Plexus Worldwide backs its products with a 60-day money back guarantee. Tiffany wants CVCR readers to know that being health and feeling better can be a reality. Tiffany, is married with 3 children, daughter Hunter (12 years) and sons Connor (7 years), Haiden (4 years). She enjoys organizing community events, creating websites, and spending time with her family. Tiffany’s business is a member of the Mead Area Chamber of Commerce. Plexus cont. from pg. M1

Plexus has changed my life. Let me give you a little background. I had weight loss surgery in 2012. After losing 100 pounds, my body decided that it liked weighing in at 195 lbs. It wanted to stay there forever. After 2 months of proper diet exercise and no budging from this plateau, a friend introduced me to Plexus and I have not looked back since! I lost 7 lbs. in the first week! And have lost a total of 40 lbs. since July 4th, 2013. But weight loss isn't all Plexus gave me. It gave me my health back. I was sluggish and vitamin deficient when starting Plexus. I was losing my hair and my skin from the weight loss was flaky and dry. After drinking Plexus Slim and adding the X-Factor vitamins, I felt amazing! X-factor was the first vitamin I have ever been able to take that didn't make me sick to my stomach. My hair is finally healthy and growing back. My nails are stronger and my skin has regained some of its elasticity. I also ran a half marathon in 2:20 in February of this year. Without my pink drink every morning I am not sure I would have been able to do this! I am so Blessed to have found Plexus! It has changed my life not only physically but also has given me an awesome career where I can share my story and help others that are struggling, just like I was. It has been one year since I began my Plexus journey.... I am 40 lbs. down and have a career I am passionate about! I am also happy to report, that as of this month, I make as much as I did when I was working full time (5 years ago), with my college degree. I get to stay home with my 2 little loves, help others, and finally feel validated..... "Blessed" is the only word that describes this journey!
