The damage caused by the Gulf War in the early 90’s caused a boom in population due to the cross border migration of 1.4 million refugees into the Jordanian territory. This sudden expansion caused damage and contamination to aquifers, agricultural resources, terrestrial & wetland ecosystems, as well as marine ecosystem in the Gulf of Aqaba to the south of Jordan.
