PINNA NOBILIS
Noble Pen mussel (Pinna nobilis) The pen shell is the biggest shell of the Adriatic and the Mediterranean. It can grow up to 1 meter. It lives in the sand, at depths from 2 to 30 meters. Its habitat is frequently seagrass as well. It is interesting that sometimes pearls can be found in it. Many people want to have its beautiful shell as a souvenir so they carelessly take it from the sea. Its quantity has decreased in tourist areas particularly. It is protected in the whole Adriatic and the Mediterranean, so hunting and sales are strictly forbidden.

How to reach us Flying to Zadar
Arriving with car
The nearest airport is the one in Zadar. This airport is a host to many low budget airlines, therefore try to take advantage of all opportunities, Your next choice is the Split airport which is the biggest one in Dalmatia. Split is only 158km away from Zada. Zadar airport is situated in Zemunik about 12 km from the city Centre. Getting from the airport to the city Centre is possible by the Airport bus, Uber and Taxi.
If you are arriving by car, then drive towards Zadar since there you will catch a ferry that will take you to the island. Zadar is reachable from all directions, but the quickest and most comfortable solution is the highway. The distance between Zagreb and Zadar is approx 286 km and it will take about 3 hours of your time. If you wish to avoid paying the toll then use the old Adriatic road over Karlovac.
Ferry Connection During the summer the island is excellently connected with the mainland. The island is 3,5 nautical miles away from the coast. The ferry departs every hour and leaves from the harbour Gaženica in Zadar to the settlement Preko on Ugljan. The journey lasts for 25 minutes and ticket price per person is 4 Euro while the price for boarding a car is around 20 Euro.
The advantage Ugljan has is that it is only one hour flight from most major European Capitals (London, Berlin, Frankfurt, Paris, Milan, Zurich), and is a twenty five minutes Ferry ride from Zadar on the coast of mainland.
