Our Activities on Active Ageing

INNOVATION represents the key for competitiveness, essential factor for the development of enterprises and employment. It is based on the capacity to implement changes and manage it over time. Change shall therefore become an opportunity for business. Innovation is something more than a “good idea”, it is a mix of ideas proposed by a motivated staff able to fulfill market’s expectations. Innovation requires the organization of an “enabling track” based on a strategy, a development of relations among functions and people, a structuring of an adequate and innovative organizational context, an acquisition of knowledge and competences suitable for its management. The financial investment to innovate may result a burden for small enterprises, therefore cooperation frameworks shall be foreseen to reduce costs and risks, to create economies of scale, reduce realization times and promote shared learning structures.

WHO WE ARE The KNOWLEDGE&INNOVATION UNIT is the innovative projects area of Confindustria Veneto SIAV aiming at identifying and transferring development opportunities for enterprises and employees at any level. This is achieved by carrying out projects included in EU, national and regional Programmes.

Every year, 50% of family-run SMEs disappear, because they fail to succeed in the generational transfer phase: in 1996, the European Observatory on SMEs estimated that over 5 million family businesses in Europe (30% of the total figure) would have to face this situation in the coming years. Family-owned SMEs, however, treasure strong points such as tradition, experience and knowledge. Acknowledging and formalising this acquired patrimony and favouring its transfer to the new generations is a key value for their survival. By enhancing good practices implemented on the European level through “TACITUS” (I/03/B/F/NT/154072), the MAGISTER project aims at spreading the concepts of interaction and knowledge exchange, as well as their transfer to the new generations in the SMEs. The project is promoted by the Asociación de Fundidores del País Vasco y Navarra and in Italy by Confindustria Veneto SIAV. Website: www.magisterproject.eu

Veneto Region Project ESF 2007-13 – “Age Management: a Virtual Market Place for mutual learning in the service sector” (2009 – 2010) The issue of the ageing workforce is a priority in several initiatives, proposals and documents of the European Commission. Italy is lagging behind in the launch of active age management policies, and it needs to make up for this delay. To do so, the project built a virtual market place included in the Age Management website of the Veneto Region, favouring mutual network-based learning between organizations companies and individuals involved. The website also includes the actions & outcomes of the EQUAL “Age Management” Project (2005 – 2006). Website: www.agemanagement.it

GRUNDTVIG Project “Cross Ages” (2007 – 2009) Inter-generational learning: from diagnostic to impact evaluation The project supported the active participation of elderly people in social life, through the definition of an integrated learning model favouring intergenerational exchange as a measure for promoting active ageing and social inclusion. This initiative is targeted towards people who are exiting from their working life or have already retired. The efforts are focused on highlighting and preserving acquired skills and experiences made, as well as the sense of belonging which is necessary to transfer them to the new generations: the focus is therefore on young people and their value, as well as avoiding loss of key competence for the company (especially within SMEs). Active ageing strategies are launched to avoid social exclusion. Website: http://crossages.uv.ro

LEONARDO “Tacitus” Project (2003 – 2005) Enhancement and transfer of non-formal learning The project aimed at creating a European-wide transnational network for spreading information concerning the maintenance and transfer of know-how and tacit competence of those expert workers who hold key functions within a company (especially SMEs) owing to their role and career development. Without properly channelling and rationalising it, this often tacit knowledge and competence runs the risk of remaining unknown to the next generations of workers, thus causing irreparable damage to the company. The team work of a broad partnership made up of 15 organizations from 7 different countries resulted in the publication of the following materials: a Guide to intergenerational cooperation; operational dossiers on “Demographic change and competence management”, “Intergenerational cooperation for people and companies”, “Transfer of expert knowledge: change-oriented know-how and innovative competence” (in Italian, French, English and German).
