You are a performance artist, a curator, writer and editor amongst a host of other talents. What drew you to the world of art? I grew up in the East Village in New York deeply embedded in a creative community. My father at the time was a photographer and my mother a psychologist. I am an immediate product of their influence; I have from a very

My work within the art world operates as a mode of research; it is a lifetime of looking to understand more how we can broaden our understanding of experiencing and understanding art. When we met you had just got married and moved over to London... ...Have you adjusted to the London way of life? London is very different from New York. I’ll never fully adjust, but I keep trying. I’m fine being a New Yorker in London; it means forever I’m flamboyantneon pink-polka-dots in a sea of grey suits. How does the London art scene compare to the New York scene? There was a time that the New York art scene was the epicentre of everything, there was so much potential and possibility there. I think London now offers what New York has lost – an opportunity to continue experimenting, with a sense of play and of joy. So much in the New York art world can so self-aware and manufactured – it goes straight from the studio to the blue-chip gallery white

wall, or the auction block. Art celebrity is such a core part of the narrative there, that it sometimes eclipses talent plus true and honest expression. So much in New York has been decided for artists, for the art world. What I’m excited about here in London is that there is still room for growth – tons of alternative spaces that are making major forays in influencing and conversing with the mainstream. That conversation between worlds is immensely important for the preservation of the contemporary avant-garde. When the academy bends to the radical, when the parade acknowledges the importance of the riot, it is in these moments that the course of art history really does shift, and the trajectory of making work, and the possibilities therein, continues to widen, welcoming more and more forms of creative practice. London’s art scene is a celebration of this ethos, and I appreciate that. It’s a great place to be making things. It’s a great place to remember that part of making art work is about making mistakes, having fun, playing with materials, and being comfortable exposing those seams of process to the public. The public deserves to know that art-making is bigger than what they see as final products in

galleries and museums. Loving art-making, loving art work, is about embracing the whole journey, not just an object of finality stamped with a price. Are there any British or European artists that you are in love with... ...If so how do they inspire you? Right now I’m very excited about the work of Jesse Darling. She’s making a lot of work that engages with histories of digital practice, gender, conceptual subjectivity… I’d say she’s one to watch, for sure. I’m also a big fan of Plastique Fantastique and really enjoy all that they put forward. ‘Dirty Talk Clean Food’ is such a brilliant concept. Talk us through how that idea came to you. I think our culture (and the course of art history) has paired “women” and “food” in a way that makes it difficult for a femaleidentifying body to exist in the world without having some sort of relationship to food - what we eat, how we eat, the politics therein, how food is gendered in the same way that human bodies are. Food and women are both “plated” and scrutinized within our society on a daily basis. Food also frequently plays a key role in

the act of courtship; on the road toward sex, there is food being prepared along the way. DIRTY TALK | CLEAN FOOD aims to unpack those rituals and make explicit our participation in such cultures as we wade our way through seas of intimacy. With an incredibly busy schedule, are you able to follow a good diet? Or at least one that sustains you? My husband and I enjoy

From Lagerfeld sending sneakers down the catwalk in Chanel’s Spring 14 Couture show, to online retailers Net-a-Porter launching their own activewear collection; it seems there’s nothing more fashionable these days than keeping fit and dressing comfortably. It therefore came as no surprise when sports luxe returned to the runway this season with more refinement than ever before. Topshop Unique boasted bold, sporty brights and gym bags at their spring summer show, whilst Donna Karen took a more luxe approach using technical fabrics and sheer mesh layers on boxy tops and DKNY offered a selection of full skirts. Also present at DKNY were white high top trainers - undoubtedly a hero product this year, trainers owned fashion month yet again as luxury houses everywhere produced their own statement pairs, (our feet are delighted!) Trainers were spotted at Emporio Armani, Temperley London, and even Christopher Bailey updated Burberry’s all white design, the “field” sneaker, with a brightly striped foamy sole for a fresher, more youthful look. Contrast collars also caught our attention when the likes of Victoria Beckham, Lacoste and Alexander Wang sent out two-tone pieces with standout collars taking centre stage. Proenza Schouler also paid tribute to the statement collar with gorgeous multi-textured jackets, dresses and t-shirts, whilst young designer Min Wu experimented with transparent plastics with collared shirts worn underneath.

Probably the most prominent SS15 look of all however was the all-white ensemble. The trend was kick-started way back in New York when Zac Posen and Michael Kors showed off their brilliant whites on the runway whilst Jenna Lyons offered all-white looks with a relaxed, sports luxe feel at her J.Crew presentation. London and Paris soon followed suit with Jasper Conran, Issey Miyake and Stella McCartney all showcasing their wonderful white statements for next spring. Such minimal trends were also reflected in hair and makeup with models wearing a middle parting at Dolce & Gabbana and Gucci, and a sleek slicked back look at Jason Wu and Alexander Wang. Meanwhile designers such as Victoria Beckham, Marc Jacobs and Dries van Noten opted for barefaced beauty at their shows, celebrating natural splendour and minimal styling. With collections showcasing sportswear, casual whites, boyish silhouettes and minimal makeup, SS15 is set to be one of the most comfortable seasons yet!

There’s plenty of adjectives that can be applied to Colombia; vibrant, colourful, rugged, untouched, beautiful, eclectic…yet none of these words do the country any justice.
