Mini Camp Descriptions

ABCs of Cheffing

Let’s bake and cook a few of your favorite meals and treats. Come and put on your chef gear and get in the kitchen here at Community. If you enjoy cookies, cakes, pizza, and more, then this is the class for you. We will learn how to measure, follow recipes, and use kitchen tools. We will even make recipe books so you can take the fun home with you each day. Get ready to roll out some dough and taste delicious creations!

Your American Girl doll will be the envy of all after you spend the week crafting food, jewelry, and school supplies for her! We will use polymer clay, beadmaking, and paper craft to create an assortment of fun items that are perfect for your 18” doll.

If you love creating and helping others, then this is the camp for you! Kindness and creativity go hand-in-hand in this unique and fun camp. We will use our imaginations to create art in different media to benefit those in the community. Creativity + Community = Art with Purpose!

Come play games in one of the largest yards ever… the fields of Community School! Come learn some of Mr. Gruszka’s favorites and as a group build a few games that can be used even when the summer ends. All skill levels welcome. Washers, croquet, disk golf, Communipong, and more! Each day we will focus on learning and, of course, PLAYING. At the end of the week, we will spend a day building games to keep the good times going.

Speaking of birds, what did Hooty the owl have for dinner? A mouse? A squirrel? A frog? Kids will dissect owl pellets and reconstruct Hooty’s dinner. Creative Contraption Warning! This is a camp designed by you – the Inventor! Children ages 3, 4, and 5 will build, splash, play, create, and dance their way through four one-week sessions of Summer Play Camp. Campers will delight in daily indoor and outdoor activities – including water and sand play! Experienced early childhood teachers and staff from Community School will direct the camp. Campers must have had their third birthday by July 1, 2023, and be potty-trained. Full-day campers should bring a non-refrigerated nut-free lunch. Please note that campers may be dropped off as late as 9:00 a.m. or picked up as early as 3:00 p.m. Please note that the week of June 20, there is no camp on Monday, and thus we are offering a discounted rate.

Magical Musicals: Campers will delve into the magical world of musicals from classics like Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King to newer favorites like Encanto and Frozen. The Musical Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: Come explore the Hundred Acre Wood with Winnie the Pooh and friends as they prepare a rescue operation to save Christopher Robin from the mysterious Backson! It’s sure to be a good time as campers learn about teamwork, friendship, and how to put on a show. This honey-filled delight is as sweet as it is fun featuring favorite songs from the 2011 film as well as new hits by Academy Award-winning Robert and Kristen Lopez (Frozen)!

FROZEN Tales: When it is hot outside, stay cool with the stories of Anna, Elsa, Olaf, Kristoff, Sven, and friends in the magical world of Arendelle. With a cast of beloved characters and loaded with magic, adventure, and plenty of humor, campers will thaw even the coldest hearts putting together a show and performing the songs and scenes from Frozen, the 2018 Broadway musical.

FUNdamentals

Fight the summer slump with FUNdamentals. Customized for each age group, this will get your child back in the swing before school starts! All ages will experience sports, French, art, and recess, as well as differentiated academics—all taught by experienced Community School faculty and staff.

Camp runs from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. daily. Camp costs $390 per week.

JK & SK - Get ready. Get set. It’s time for school! Younger students will get familiar with school routines before the first day of school. By using favorite children’s books, thematic activities will support school readiness skills such as listening, following directions, and organization, as well as math, reading, and writing.

1st & 2nd - Brush up on valuable skills and learn the importance of school routines. Listening to stories and reading in small groups will increase comprehension and reading fluency. Fun number games focusing on number sense and computation will help review, reinforce, and develop math skills.

3rd & 4th - Third and fourth graders will develop strong critical thinking skills while reading fiction and non-fiction pieces, focusing on determining the main idea, using context clues to develop vocabulary, and summarizing the key concepts of the text. In math, through interactive lessons and games, campers will focus on the concepts of number sense, computation, geometry, and fractions.

5th & 6th - Prepare for success! Fifth and sixth grade students will review math and reading skills through interactive games and fun activities. They will learn different strategies to develop and enhance study skills, including organization and time management. Through critical thinking activities, leadership skills will be enhanced to prepare fifth and sixth graders for the school year.

HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO PARTICIPATE?

Camps are available for children age 3-eighth grade. Grades refer to your grade in the fall 2023. Check out the individual camp information for required ages.

WHAT DO I BRING?

Snacks are provided in the morning and afternoon. If staying all day, pack a non-refrigerated peanut-free lunch. Please bring a water bottle, wear tennis shoes, and apply sunscreen before arriving at camp.

DO YOU OFFER BEFORE AND AFTER CARE?

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer before or after care during the 2023 camp season.

Registration is due by Monday, May 15, 2023. Payment is due in full when registering. There will be a $25 late fee for registrations after this date. Prior to May 15, there will be a $50 cancellation fee per camp.
