SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The Community Choice Foundation is working to keep Michigan’s best and brightest students in Michigan. It’s no secret that college-educated Michiganders have been leaving the state in droves. Community Choice Credit Union understands that we must take action to retain our state’s future leaders.
Community Choice Scholars are more than book-smart. Scholars are selected based on a balance of academic achievement, leadership and community service. Every Scholar will attend an accredited college or university in Michigan and pledges to remain a Michigan resident after graduation.
Our Scholars meet high academic standards, have a proven track record of volunteerism, and pledge to pursue their careers in Michigan. Most have a financial need for the scholarship.
The Community Choice Foundation was created in 2009 to help put an end to Michigan’s brain drain. In the credit union spirit of people helping people, the Foundation has provided more than $500,000 in financial assistance to students who are committed to giving back to Michigan communities. These scholarships keep them in Michigan by making higher education here more affordable. All Community Choice Scholars attend Michigan colleges and universities, and have pledged to stay in Michigan after graduation.
The Community Choice Foundation Scholarship Program is growing. Scholarship funds come from Community Choice Credit Union members, team members, and local businesses. Every cent of every donation goes directly toward scholarship recipients’ education. These funds have a real impact. Here’s how 2013 Community Choice Scholar Kate Yuhas puts it:
“Unlike the national media, I haven’t given up hope on my home state. Though things may look bleak now, I see a shining future. But this can only be achieved if the young and educated choose Michigan to settle down, start a family, and build a life instead of leaving en masse.”

Community Choice Scholars are already giving back by holding leadership positions in colleges and communities. The Credit Union is happy to underwrite the Scholarship Program and be a part of the ripple effect as these young people touch the lives of thousands through their volunteerism.
Please join us in making college possible for the next class of Scholars. Your gift will help us keep talented and civic-minded students in Michigan. Once the Scholars are selected, we also consider the family’s need. Many awards cover the gap between the cost of attendance and what the family can afford, up to a maximum of $5,000. Special benefits are available for sponsors of a full or half scholarship; gifts of all sizes are welcome.
