DURHAM CITY OPEN DAYS 2015

#DUmakeithappen

WELCOME We are delighted that you have decided to visit our vibrant, world-class University.

Pre-application Open Days are the best way for you to find out about our teaching excellence, explore our award winning facilities, experience our distinctive college communities, and discover the range of support services we offer to our students. At the Open Day you can find out about: • Our unique collegiate system

• Why we are consistently in the top 10 in major university league

• Our departments, their facilities and how our students are taught • Graduate employment prospects • Our range of high quality academic courses and what we look for in applicants

tables • Our internationally renowned research and how it contributes to the student learning experience Read on to find out more…

DURHAM’S COLLEGES Durham University is distinctive – a residential collegiate university with long-held traditions and modern values.

THIS GUIDE PROVIDES YOU WITH ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW INCLUDING... times and locations of sessions, maps, refreshment venues and information desk locations. Please read it fully before booking to help you to plan your day effectively.

Our colleges offer a student experience within a supportive community on a human scale, where academic and personal skills can flourish. In Durham City there are 13 undergraduate colleges each with a distinctive history and culture. Although all colleges are conveniently situated, visiting them all in one day isn’t feasible. We recommend you do some initial research before booking to tour a couple during your visit.

WHAT IS A COLLEGE? College is where you can live, socialise and personally develop; ensuring you graduate with much more than a degree. You become part of a scholarly community of staff and students from across the University and beyond. In the smaller-scale college environments, you are offered a high level of support and can easily get involved in a wide range of extra-curricular activities alongside living in college accommodation and enjoying a range of excellent facilities. Many of our students get involved in helping to run aspects of their college, offering unique leadership opportunities and providing valuable experience for future careers.

WHICH SUBJECTS ARE TAUGHT IN WHICH COLLEGES? Colleges have student members from across all academic departments. So whilst no formal teaching takes place within any college, there is lots of learning taking place.
