Nancy passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, August 19, 2023, from injuries sustained in a car accident along with her brother, Gene She was born July 16, 1939 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Charles and Florence (DeLong) Hale Nancy worked for Gibson Guitar for 15 years and Stryker for 25 years until her retirement in 2003 Nancy loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed attending their sporting events She also liked exercising, travel and socializing with her many friends
Nancy was a longtime member of the Otsego United Methodist Church and the Red Hat Society On July 12, 1958 in Gobles she married Everett “Ron” Lyons who passed away in May 2022 Surviving are her children, Kathy Lyons and Jeff Lyons; 3 grandchildren, Lacee (Steven Hatto) Lyons, Stephanie (Alex) Perry and Shane Lyons; 5 great-grandchildren, Calihan, Caine, Adrienne, Otto and Wes; siblings, Mary, David, Bob, Pam and Bev; sisters-in-law, Donna and Linda along with several nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Rodney and siblings, Gene, Sharon, Dick, Bud and Arlene Friends may visit with Nancy’s family from 4-7 PM, Friday, August 25, 2023 at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego

Monday, August 21st, 2023, in Kalamazoo He was born January 7th, 1959, in Kalamazoo, the son of George and Frances (Hinds) Hawley Jack graduated from Comstock High School in 1977 He proudly served his country in the U S Navy on the SS Duluth while stationed in San Diego, CA Upon discharge Jack returned to Kalamazoo and worked at many area companies as a plastic injection mold maker until his retirement in 2020 Jack was a very kind and gentle person who loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren He held his family in the center of his heart, worked hard to do things the way they should be done and never started something that he couldn’t finish He liked horses and event jumping, golfing, traveling, and camping He also enjoyed watching all sports He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Otsego, MI On May 6th, 1995, he married Shirley Kahlmorgan who survives Also surviving are his children, Jessica (Adam) McGuire of Kalamazoo and Amanda (Sean) Keigher of Illinois; stepchildren, Shannon (Daniel) Bower of Plainwell, William “Jamie” (Kristie) Stannard of Georgia and Corey Stannard of Plainwell; 14 grandchildren; sisters, Deborah Hawley and Katy Hawley along with many nieces and nephews He was proceeded in death by his parents and brother, Jeff Hawley According to his wishes cremation has taken place A visitation will be held at 10am on Saturday, September 9th, followed by the funeral at 11am at the First Congregational Church of Otsego A luncheon will follow Burial of Ashes will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI at a later date Contributions in memory of Jack may be made to the First Congregational Church of Otsego

AGE 86 - KALAMAZOO MI
Our family is heartbroken to announce the death of our mother, Ginger (Virginia) May VanDeLaare 86 of Kalamazoo on August 22, 2023 after a sudden, brief and unexpected medical illness Her children were all gathered by her side to comfort her in her last moments She expressed feeling peace, knowing that the Lord was ready to bring her to Heaven Born to the late Arby and Virginia Emmons in Allegan, MI, on July 23, 1937 Ginger developed a deep love and respect for plants and animals on the family Dairy farm She would comb and brush the manes of the plow horses until they would shine, much to her father’s chagrin at having the prettiest workhorses in Trowbridge Township Prior to graduating Otsego High School, she joined every group she could, including Future Farmers of America, 4-H, Civil Air Patrol and served on the student council She was deeply loved by every one who knew her and fondly remembered by her customers at Meijer where she served samples Animals gathered around her, drawn by a mystical pull understood only to her and them Ginger made pets of the deer, rabbits and cranes who lived on her property and brought their offspring to her every spring She would speak to the deer and they understood her goodness and love for them She danced with the cranes and their chicks each evening It was astonishing to witness Ginger also adored many pet cats and Black Labrador Retrievers over the years who could not have had a better life than with her When visiting her children their pets would race to meet her at the door, knowing she had a pocketbook full of treats Following her love of the outdoors and growing things, she would purchase an abundance of flowers each year Enough to fill a pickup truck bed on each trip to every greenhouse she could find throughout Michigan and Indiana, lovingly tending to them all She was a lifelong learner who read many books and enjoyed absorbing knowledge on all manner of subjects, medical books were a favorite She started learning about honey bees and tending hives in 2020 Ginger was a fantastic cook and her cookies and fudge were treats coveted by all She was blessed with a keen wit and her jokes always brought smiles Ginger is survived by her children: Debra (Lewis) Cook, Barbara Clark, James Henry, Nancy Gettys and Laura (Dave) Hoffman, 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Ruth Emmons, sister Laura Key and her beloved cat, Misha Ginger is preceded in death by her husband Bert, parents Arby Emmons and Virginia Japhet, sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Mike Strobel, brother Richard Emmons, brother-in-law, Ed Key, son-in-law Joe Gettys and her dog, Bella In accordance with her wishes, Ginger has been cremated and no funeral or services will be held Rather than sending flowers, please make a donation to your local animal shelter in her name

REFLECTION: A few days ago, I had an epiphany, a divine thought It was about God’s continual gift of His Son, ever ywhere I have lived Let me explain As Chr istians we are known to be the salt of the ear th (Matt 5:13) If there is no salt there is no life Dehydration will kill you in three days if you do not have a blood sodium level of between 135–145 mmol/liter Ever y day we eat fr uit, vegetables, and meats, all of which contain just enough salt for us to sur vive on So, like salt, which is essential for sur vival, Chr istians are necessar y to announce eter nal life As a Chr istian, ever y relationship we have offers ways to communicate the tr uth about God's eter nal life We are to be living sacr ifices for the glor y of God The problem is that we do not understand this until we become immor tal ourselves Being bor n from above by the Spir it is the result of accepting God’s Son as our Savior and Redeemer John 3:5-8 Jesus answered, “Ver y tr uly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are bor n of water and the Spir it Flesh gives bir th to flesh, but the Spir it gives bir th to spir it You should not be sur pr ised at my saying, ‘You must be bor n again ’ The wind blows wherever it pleases You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going So it is with ever yone bor n of the Spir it ” That’s r ight! Jesus Chr ist’s life, death, and resurrection br ings new life to all of God’s people This profound tr uth causes us to live as a “living sacr ifice” to those we live, wor k and play with PRAYER TIME: As I come into your presence Oh God, I give you thanks You are my God, my Lord, my Redeemer who fills the wor ld You changed my hear t, mind, and soul with joy I will sing your praises before all the people In Jesus Name Amen!
