When I think of God’s holiness I think of the stor y of Moses and the bur ning bush (Exodus 3:1-7) Moses was out tending the flock of his father-inlaw, Jethro when an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a bur ning bush that was not consumed God said to him, “Take off your sandals, for the place you are standing is holy ground ” Moses hid his face because he was afraid to look at God
(Exodus 3:5, 6)
Of course Moses went on to lead the children of Israel out of captivity to the border of the Promised Land He gave the world the Ten Commandments Moses introduced us to the concept of God’s holiness (Exodus 15:11) The psalmist declared God’s holiness (Psalm 89:6) and even the prophet Isaiah weighed in (Isaiah 6:3)
God is holy and therefore sinless So the question becomes “How can sinners stand before a holy God?” The answer is that Jesus “became sin for us that we might become the r ighteousness of God” (2 Cor inthians 5:21)
To be holy (I Peter 1: 15-16) is to be like Him

“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain” (Exodus 20:7) In our language the word profane comes from two Latin words – pro meaning “in front of ” and fane meaning Temple Profane words are words we would not use in church

God gave humankind the Sabbath (rest) as a reward for wor k The stor y is passed down about a group of explorers who went to Afr ica They hired native guides to help them find their way Each day was r ush, r ush, r ush, but on the seventh day they noticed their guides resting under a tree “Come on,” they shouted One of the guides responded, “We no go today We rest today to let our souls catch up with our bodies ”

Angus, a church member in Scotland, told his pastor with great enthusiasm that he planned to visit the Holy Land He said, “When I get there, I m going to climb to the top of Mount Sinai and read aloud the Ten Commandments Then I will feel close to God The minister replied, Angus, if you really want to be close to God, take my advice Just stay home and keep the commandments

Mona Eve Erickson was born on October 9, 1949, and died on June 19, 2023 in Kalamazoo, Michigan Mona’s family includes her children: Amanda (Adam) van Brenk and Kelli (Jon) Stuifbergen; 3 grandchildren, Logan, Kendall, and Bianca, and 5 brothers and sisters: Ron (Randi) Bourdages, Bonnie (Gary) Herbert, Robin (Butch) Abshire, Joline Bourdages, Brian Bourdages; as well as many nieces and nephews and relatives in the US and Canada Mona was preceded in death by her loving parents, Joseph and Rose Bourdages A funeral mass will be held on Friday, June 23rd at 11am at Saint Margaret’s Catholic Church: 766 Farmer St in Otsego A luncheon will follow and then the burial will be family only Memorial donations can be made to St Margaret’s Catholic Church or Christian Neighbors

Randy passed away, Monday, June 19, 2023 at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo He was born April 13, 1955 in Allegan to Harold and Bonnie (Zoll) Gomber Randy worked for over 30 years for Otsego Public Schools as a custodian where he was loving known as Mr Randy In his leisure time he enjoyed mowing his lawn, riding his Harley, playing cards, watching car races, playing corn hole and especially loved taking drives and “country cruising” to reminisce More than anything Randy (Rinki) loved spending time with his family He was a member of the Otsego VFW Post #3030 Surviving are his children, Nicole Gomber, Doug (Julie) DePauw and Leslie (Todd) Giuzio; his grandchildren, Chelsea (Jeremy) Brooke (Eric), Ashley (Alex); 3 great grandchildren, Phoebe Sue, Addison, Ryleigh and baby boy Cade due in July; siblings, Julie (Mike) Harrington and Gary (Linda Butler) Gomber along with many nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Sandra Warner and Rex Gomber According to his wishes cremation will take place A celebration of life will be held at a later time

Kathryn E (Buis) Nogle, age 83, of Plainwell, Michigan passed away on Monday, June 5, 2023 from pancreatic cancer Kathy was the youngest daughter of Bert & Viola (Shaw) Buis On January 18, 1958 she was married to Bruce Nogle Together they had two sons, Mark and Brian She retired from AT&T in 1994 after 32 years She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bruce; son, Mark; two brothers, Roy and Earl Buis; and sister, Carol Cooley Surviving is her son, Brian (Brenda Langford); six grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; daughterin-law, Patricia Nogle; brother-in-law, Jim Cooley; sister-in-laws, Pattie (Les) Hardy and Marjory Knight; with many nieces, nephews and cousins In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to your favorite charity Cremation has taken place Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Plainwell at a later date

I also have witnessed God s grace upon others also Many Chr istians have a difficult time with God s grace They believe Chr istianity is about the dos and don ts in life Theologians call this pietism, or legalism Pietists emphasize that the spir itual and moral renewal of a person is a complete commitment to Jesus Chr ist To have a new life patter n based on the Bible we must be motivated by the Spir it of Chr ist To be a Chr istian one must do cer tain things and not do other things It is a task a person under takes to receive God’s blessings The better one perfor ms these tasks the better you are as a Chr istian A star k example of this is the Amish lifestyle or Hasidic Jew’s They live with a lot of dos and don’ts Don’t shave your beard, don’t dr ive a car, don’t use electr icity, don’t eat meat on Fr iday All these dos and don’ts are tasks to please God You only have to be committed to Jesus Chr ist To be a ser vant of Chr ist is all about having a loving relationship with God As a matter of fact, Chr ist’s death does nothing for a person Chr ist is the center of life for a Chr istian It is God’s love toward us that br ings us back into a personal relationship with Him There is something attractive about being loved by God I am attracted to someone who loves me I find myself naturally wanting to please that person This is what God’s grace does for us He showed how much He loves us when he sent his son to save us from our sin He has created in me a desire to love more than I used to, and sin less than I did That is God’s grace in action A real freedom to enjoy the life He has given us
