Bella passed away Sunday, May 21, 2023 at Kauhale Assisted Living in Otsego She was born July 22, 1930 in London, England, the daughter of William and Alice (Daniels) Axam She worked at several area retail stores over the years retiring from Steketee’s Bella was a skilled seamstress She made many outfits for her children, did alterations and for many years altered uniforms for the Otsego High School band She enjoyed traveling, going out for dinner, gardening, baking and journaling Bella was a member of the First Congregational Church of Otsego and together with her special friends was part of the “Golden Girls” On December 28, 1957 in Lakeview she married Donald DuBois who passed away in 2021 Surviving are her daughters, Kim (Wayne) Rayburn, Tracey (Rick) Hurdelbrink and Julie (Mike) Smith; grandchildren, Cari (Brent) Milhiem, Kellie (Paul) Lemmer, Whitney Reed, Abbie (Brad) Lietzke, Jessica (Jacob) Lewis, Jennifer (Tim) Lieber, Ethan and Evan Hermenitt; 10 great-grandchildren; special sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Woodstock; special niece, Laura Riddell and special nephews, Vic (Sandra) and Mike (Jan) both of England She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son, John and siblings, Tom, Doug, Mae and Dolly According to her wishes cremation has taken place Burial of ashes for both Don and Bella will take place at 9:00 A M , Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Mountain Home Cemetery in Otsego Following the burial, friends may visit with Bella’s family starting at 10:00 A M , at the First Congregational Church of Otsego, until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 A M , with family officiating Contributions in memory of Bella may be made to the First Congregational Church of Otsego

Michael G Bourdo, age 60 of Delton passed away unexpectedly on May 18, 2023 Michael was born November 24, 1962 in Plainwell, the son of Gordon and Frances (Anderson) Bourdo Michael worked as a logger for most of his life In his free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends Michael played softball and was a trap shooter in his younger years He was a big Kid Rock fan and went to many of his concerts throughout the years Michael will be remembered for his genuine love of people He will be dearly missed by his sons: Jeremy (Ashley) Bourdo, Trayton Bourdo; mother, Frances Bourdo; grandchildren: JT, Jenna, Maverick Bourdo; sisters: Sally (Bourdo) Zelenock, Kelly (Barry) Smith; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins Michael was preceded in death by his father, Gordon Bourdo; sisters: Jody Bourdo, and Tammy Bourdo A visitation was held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at the Williams-Gores Funeral Home The funeral service was conducted on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at Thornapple Valley Church in Hastings Private burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery Memorial contributions may be made to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation or the American Heart Association

Norma passed away on May 2, 2023, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, just shy of her 100th birthday

She was born on May 15, 1923, in Chicago, Illinois, to Italian immigrants, Amo and Rose Scotese She was raised in Paw Paw, Michigan, and attended Steeple School and later attended Paw Paw High School, graduating class of 1941 Norma was an avid basketball player and always boasted how she won a trip to camp for her athletic abilities Norma graduated from Nazareth College in 1945 with a degree in Social Work She cherished those years at Nazareth and met and built many lifelong relationships with her classmates and the Sisters of St Joseph She often spoke of her experiences, fun times and great education she received Norma is the last of her Nazareth group, but up until a few years ago, the "gals" would gather at La Cantina and reminisce and laugh over the old stories! Her Paw Paw lifelong friend, Marguerite Bellware, would join her every Thursday for dinner at La Cantina, also to reminisce and tell stories of the "old days” After graduating, Norma began her career working at St Francis Home for Boys in Detroit, Michigan She enjoyed her work there and also liked the city life After a few years, Norma procured a position with the City of Chicago, Human Resource Department as a Social Worker and also began graduate school She lived with her sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Tom Arcadipone, who were accomplished musicians in the city One fateful weekend in 1948, Norma was home in Paw Paw, working at the restaurant as her father and mother expected There she met the love of her life, Antonio Dacoba, who had literally just arrived from Havana, Cuba for the Upjohn Company in Kalamazoo The rest is history! Norma and Antonio married June 24, 1950, at St Mary Catholic Church in Paw Paw Together they had four children, Rosemary, Tony, Ava, and Emilio The family spent many holidays going back to Havana to visit paternal grandparents, Antonio and Rosina Aquirre Dacoba, and sister-in-law Olga Dacoba Norma lived in Havana and longed to go back often Soon Politics changed all that The Cuban half of the family settled in Paw Paw for the remainder of their lives Norma took a more active role running the restaurant, La Cantina, along with her sister Nancy Arcadipone While Norma concentrated on the day-to-day business, her sister lead the culinary operations Norma continued to work daily through her early 90's Finally, she chose to limit her responsibilities and enjoyed being present and socializing with her friends and patrons Norma devoted her life to La Cantina She relished the daily excitement of being with people and being active She loved getting dressed up, putting on her sparkly Rhinestone glasses, which before long became her signature calling card look for decades! (Thank you to Mr Bill Dobbs) Norma worked tirelessly maintaining the business after her family had passed on She carried on with her children with hopes the restaurant would continue on for many years It is now 87 years young, Norma has left a legacy of dedication, hard work and love Norma was present at the restaurant every morning and evening through the Christmas Holidays, 2022 No matter how cold or rainy, she loved being at the restaurant La Cantina was her home and she enjoyed every minute of being there! She will be greatly missed Norma was preceded in death by her husband Antonio A Dacoba, daughter Rosemary D'Arienzo, parents Amo and Rose Scotese, her sister Nancy Arcadipone (Tom), In laws Antonio Sr , Rosina and Olga Dacoba Surviving are children, Tony (Debbie) Dacoba, Emilio (Maria) Dacoba, Ava (Roman) Plaszczak Grandchildren: Alicia Dacoba Parsayar, Isabella Dacoba, Great-Grandson, Antonio Parsayar, Son in law, Peter D Arienzo and Step grandson Chris D'Arienzo, and several nieces, nephews and cousins Mass of Christian burial took place Monday May 22 2023, at Saint Mary Catholic Church, Paw Paw, with Rev Fr Alan P Jorgensen presiding In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Eleanor's Pantry or a charity of choice

Animal Shelter as a lost dog He was microchipped and the shelter lear ned his real name, but were unable to get in contact with his humans from the infor mation registered to the chip (a good reminder to make sure your pets microchip infor mation is up to date) Dobbie LOVES people His favorite thing to do with people is sit and get good cuddles, but he can be coaxed into going for a walk (because he needs to, he is a little chubby)

He s pretty scared living in the shelter Friendly Dobbie could go almost anywhere and join a family that already includes kids, dogs, and potentially cats! If there is another dog in the family, a meet and greet will be schedule to make sure they are a good match For children, respectful kids age 8 years and up would be his best fit

During his cat assessment, Dobbie showed a little interest in playing with the cat, but his attention could be redirected A slow introduction is recommended for dogs and cats

Early on Sunday mor ning, while it was still dark, Mar y Magdalene came to the tomb and found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance She ran and found Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved She said, “They have taken the Lord’s body out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!” That Sunday evening the disciples were meeting behind locked doors because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders Suddenly, Jesus was standing there among them! “Peace be with you,” he said As he spoke, he showed them the wounds in his hands and his side They were filled with joy when they saw the Lord! John 20:1-2, 19-20

REFLECTION: John the evangelist is telling us his personal version of the resurrection of Jesus He was at the grave site and in the upper room On that Sunday he, along with the rest of Jesus’ followers were trembling in fear wonder ing what would happen next Suddenly God poured His grace out r ight in front of them There was their beloved Jesus standing among them They could no longer doubt the tr uth of Jesus Jesus spoke these gentle words, “Peace be with you” This is a common greeting among the Jews The word “peace” means to be cheerful and have a good life Chr ist intended his disciples to have a happy and prosperous life Why? Because they no longer have to fear death but embrace life to the fullest Chr istians need to remember no matter our cr isis, the peace of Chr ist is with us This super natural moment changes lives forever Jesus brought physical proof that there is new life after death He is demonstrating to them physically that they too will r ise from the dead Imagine for yourself being a witness to this wor ld changing miracle of God If you are bor n from above, then you have exper ienced this spir itual awakening As followers of Jesus we have encountered the tr uth of God’s grace, and once you have, you can never go back to your old life We have seen the full glor y of God

This is the stor y of a young soldier ser ving his countr y in a faraway place and a beautiful display honor ing all veterans It all began near ly twentyfive years ago when Joyce Gilliland, Otsego United Methodist Church secretar y/organist at the time, was asked by her pastor how the church honored veterans Joyce responded, “Uhhh, we sing patr iotic songs well that got me thinking what could I do?”

That led to contacting people in the church to collect names of veterans Over time this display has expanded greatly and includes photos of veterans, not only in the Otsego/Plainwell area but throughout the countr y Joyce’s husband Dar l, a veteran, places the pictures on a CD so the congregation can view the power point video before Sunday worship Joyce plays patr iotic music to go along with the power point

There are presently over 150 pictures of veterans

The veterans are from the Spanish Amer ican War, Civil War, WW1, WW2, Korean Conflict, Vietnam, Gulf War, Deser t Stor m and the Middle East The display includes those who have ser ved our countr y in the United States and all over the wor ld and those presently ser ving The display also includes those were killed in the ser vice as well as POW’s

Meanwhile, it happened that a family baby shower was held in the church Social Hall last July The shower was for Amanda Flickinger, daughter of Dennis & Cindy Flickinger Dur ing the event, Amanda’s brother, Sergeant First Class (SFC) Er ic Flickinger, shared a Face Time visit with his family all the way from Poland (near the city of Tor un), where he was stationed at the time
