There are many symptoms of peripheral neuropathy, which is essentially damage to the peripheral nerve system. Others report the sensation of walking on broken glass or thumbtacks.

Edward (Eddie) C. HINGA III AGE 36 - OTSEGO, MI
Eddie tragically passed away from injuries sustained in a car crash on December 25, 2023. He was born on October 28, 1987. Eddie was a graduate of Otsego High School. He was gainfully employed as a CNC operator at TMD Machining in Plainwell, MI. Eddie enjoyed playing guitar and loved music. He also enjoyed fishing, boating, and making people laugh. Eddie is survived by his father, Edward C. Hinga Il; daughter, Aundrea Williams; sister, Audrea Patrick; brother, Jason Bartells, as well as many cousins, aunts and uncles. May Eddie rest in peace with the Lord in Heaven. Eddie, you will forever live in our hearts. We love you, Eddie! Mickey R. HORROCKS AGE 72 - OTSEGO, MI
Mickey passed away peacefully, Saturday, January 6, 2024, at his home in Otsego. He was born October 9, 1951, in Kalamazoo, the son of Harry and Eleanor (Linsley) Horrocks. Mickey proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He graduated from Ferris State University and for many years worked as a quality control engineer at Eaton and then for Mazda, until his retirement. Halfway through his retirement he went back to work for Sartorius. Mickey enjoyed the traveling his job required and found work very rewarding. Surviving are his daughter, Jennifer Horrocks; his sister, Sherry Horrocks and nephews, Christoper and Sam Horrocks. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Thomas and Bud Horrocks. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. Burial of ashes will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta. James P. Leonard, also known as Jim, passed into eternity, on January 11, 2024, in his hometown of Otsego. He was born on March 4, 1937, the son of James and Irene (Calvin) Leonard. Jim graduated from Otsego High School in 1955. He had a fulfilling career working for Parker Hannifin for 37 years as a tool and die maker until his retirement. He had a natural inclination towards mechanics and enjoyed being a race car driver at Kalamazoo Speedway and Berlin Speedway. His love for racing extended to helping his sons and grandsons build and race stock cars. Additionally, Jim cherished spending quality time with his wife, taking drives together in their beloved '69 Camaro convertible. Traveling was another interest that brought joy to Jim's life. He explored various destinations including Israel, Hawaii, the east coast, and the Smoky Mountains. The winters were particularly special to him as he enjoyed spending time in Bradenton, FL where he immersed himself in playing shuffleboard and checkers. On October 20, 1974, in Cooper Township, he married Janice Smith who passed away in 2021. Jim leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his surviving family members: sons Mike (Julie) Leonard of Allegan and Randy (Annette) Leonard of Kalamazoo; stepchildren Deb (Dennis) Merlau of Delton, Sherri (Joe) Fountain of Shelbyville, and Larry (Joyce) Zuiderveen of Otsego; grandchildren, Abbie, Lisa, Nicole, Jimmy, David, Emily, Lindsey, Tony, Amy, Draven, Denise, Daniel, Diana, Dustin, Benjamin, Jonathan, Melissa, James, Jacob, Josiah and Joel who may remember he always said "I buy my friends, they are the best kind." ; several great-grandchildren and great-greatgrandchildren; sisters, Carolynn (Andy) Sparks and Patricia Klingenpeel and several nephews also survive him. He was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife of 47 years, Janice and daughter, Sue Ann Currie. Friends may meet with Jim's family starting at 10:00 A.M., on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Paul Laborde officiating. Burial will follow at West Cooper Cemetery in Cooper Township at a later time. Jim will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His dedication to his career, love for racing, and zest for life will continue to inspire those he leaves behind. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Jim may be made to Right to Life of West Michigan. Most of us can say that our lives have been largely shaped by the persons who have encouraged us along life’s journey. This may include such persons as family members, friends, teachers, coaches, counselors, pastors and coworkers. My life in Christ has been largely shaped by family and friends who had a positive influence on my life.

A few years ago, my high school typing teacher, now in her mid-90s, saw a picture of me on Facebook dressed in my clergy robe. She said she was proud of me. This brought to mind the words of Mark Twain, “I can live two months on one compliment.” Maybe in my case, a little longer. LOL Why is this word so important? It is important because it makes us better persons. By definition to encourage means “to put the heart in.” Conversely, the word discourage means to “take the heart out.” The amazing truth is that we all need it, regardless of what social class we may be in. A classic example is one of our most beloved American presidents, Abraham Lincoln. Among other personal items found in Lincoln’s wallet, following his death, were news clippings containing flattering words of him and his policies. Even a person as great as Lincoln needed words of encouragement.

ADOPTABLE Pet of the Week! is the cutest little lab!
This sweet guy was brought to the Allegan County Animal Shelter as a lost dog on 12/11/23. Since he was not reclaimed, he has been neutered, given a microchip, and brought up to date on vaccinations & prevention. It is estimated that Odie is ~2 years old. Odie is just the best boy… he’s playful, friendly, snuggly, and goofy! He would make a perfect family dog. He walks pretty well on the leash and knows how to “sit.” He is such a sweetheart! This handsome fella could join a home that includes children, other dogs, and/or cats. Odie would do well with kids as young as 6 years and could potentially do younger with the right kids. He gets along with other dogs, but was a little nervous about playing when introduced to a potential doggie friend at the shelter. If there is another dog in the home, a meet and greet will be scheduled to ensure they’re a good match! Odie was only mildly interested in the cat during his assessment, but slow introductions are recommended between new dogs and cats. Apply to adopt or foster sweet Odie online at:

REFLECTION: When reading God’s Word it can overwhelm us with fear, but following the fear comes an opening of our minds. John Calvin writes, “Whenever the feeblest ray of the Divine glory bursts upon us, we cannot avoid being alarmed.” When the truth of the Gospel becomes a reality for us, we find ourselves in the presence of God. Our minds and hearts do not readily grasp its effect. As we respond to God’s righteousness, we give way to this truth. Just like the virgin Mary experienced we too sense our unholiness and crimes against God and we have a good reason to be afraid of punishment. The angel immediately responded by giving Mary an immeasurable blessing to calm her. He says, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. God has been merciful to you.” That is likened to being reborn from above. When we accept Christ as our Savior, we have been granted the gift of faith and we find favor with God. Romans 3:22 “We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin.” This is the true meaning of Christmas. PRAYER TIME: Lord Jesus, thank you for being born and providing me a way back to my Father, my God. Blessed is your name above all names. I pray your glory will be seen. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
