Hamilton came to the Allegan County Animal Shelter as a lost dog, but no owner has come forward to claim him. He has been brought up to date on vaccinations & prevention and neutered. It is estimated that he is 2 years old. Hamilton is SO sweet. He immediately won the hearts of the shelter staff and volunteers with his kennel behavior. Where most dogs are excited and jumping at any chance to get out of the kennel and go outside, Hamilton sees people coming and flops onto his back for belly rubs! Once he's outside, he's very polite on the leash. He loves spending time with people and will pick attention over toys or treats every time. At this time, Hamilton would be happiest as the only pet in the family to hog all the belly rubs for himself. He would love to join a family with kids! He may be able to join a home that includes another calm dog, but doesn't seem to be looking for a playmate. He may prefer a doggie sister. If there is another dog in the home, a meet and greet will be scheduled to see if it could work.

Melissa passed away and was united with her Savior on Friday, November 24, 2023 at her home, surrounded by her family in Plainwell, after a courageous battle with cancer. Throughout her cancer journey Melissa relied on God and deepening her relationship with her Savior. Melissa was born July 4, 1978 in Kalamazoo the daughter of Philip and Cynthia (Hull) Maneikis. She graduated from Mattawan High School in 1997 and attended Kalamazoo Valley Community College for graphic design. Melissa worked at several area businesses over the years including Applebees, Bilbos, Upjohn/ Pharmacia, and Secant/SVT. Most recently she spent her time researching alternative cancer treatments, improving her health and teaching those around her to do the same. Melissa enjoyed gardening, hiking, kayaking and camping with family and friends. She loved doing jobs that involved interior design and remodeling. On June 24, 2022 she married Brad Teachout who survives. Also surviving are her son, Dylan Chandler; sisters, Tiffany (Brian) Priest, Michelle (Jeff) Stahl and Jennie (Scott) VanZanten along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. A funeral service was held November 29, 2023 at North Point Church in Plainwell, with Pastor Jason Zimmer officiating. Burial took place at Schoolcraft Township Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Melissa may be made to Connors Clinic of Wisconsin. Douglas passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at the age of 81 after a brief illness. Douglas was born January 29, 1942 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. In 1960 Doug met the love of his life, Donna Voss, and they were married in 1961. A few years later they had two sons and Doug decided to move his family to Florida in 1967. They settled in Martin County where Doug took a job with a construction company and through the years he became the company Project Manager until he retired. Doug's love of life included fishing, boating, camping and numerous cruises. At home Doug enjoyed baking, especially during the holidays, and often surprised his friends and neighbors with homemade pies or breads. Doug is predeceased by his wife Donna, his parents, Bessie and Leland Saunders and a brother, (LD) Levon Dale. He is survived by his brother Larry and his wife Ann, of Kalamazoo, MI, his sister Romalee and her husband Melvin Robinson of Hobe Sound, FL and Doug's two sons, Timothy and his wife Kathy of Blairsville, GA and Todd and his wife, Barbara of Hobe Sound, FL. Doug will be remembered and greatly missed by his friends and neighbors in Kalamazoo, as well as in Hobe Sound.

Morrcene Ann Gustin was reunited with her beloved husband Steven on November 24, 2023. She was preceded in death by her infant son William, her parents Leroy and Francine Vanepps, her in-laws Dean and Eva Gustin, her uncle Ray VanEpps and her aunt Kathryn Carl. She is survived by her loving children Stephanie Gustin, Saundra Gustin and Robert Gustin. After retiring from working in health care for many years, Morrcene devoted her life to helping stray cats by adopting and loving all of them. She loved singing in the church choir and having lunches with her many groups of girlfriends. Before our children were born, I was given a list of family members and friends to call announcing their births. That was way back in B.C. (before computers!). There were no such things as emails, texts and the like. I not only made phone calls, I told everyone I saw (even strangers) that I was a new daddy. When our daughter was born, we were serving a church in a small village in Ohio. The message on the outside bulletin board simply read, “It’s a girl!” I had previously engaged a former seminary friend to perform a one person drama on Sunday morning. He began by saying, “I don’t think Dan is in any mood to preach this morning!” When our son was born, I was scheduled to attend Annual Conference in Albion. Staying overnight in the old parsonage on Chart St. in Plainwell, I was awaked early in the morning with my dad announcing “Wake up, daddy, your wife wants to talk to you.” I got around as fast as I could and drove to Petoskey to meet our new born son. That was two days before Father’s Day. My sermon was filled with emotion as I placed a picture of our infant son beside my Bible as I preached. Again, the announcement went near and far. The joy of the announcements was repeated when our grandchildren, Tyler, Justin, Jacob, Ella and Jack were born! When we think of the announcement of our Lord’s birth, think angelic announcement. There has never been a birth announcement like it. The announcement first came to Mary when angel Gabriel told her she would be mother of “the Son of the Most High.” This was followed on the day of Christ’s birth when an angelic chorus sang, “Glory to God in the highest …” (Luke 2:14).

The message of that first announcement is timeless. Jesus was sent to redeem us, anoint us and rule us. Jesus lived up to His name and perfectly fulfilled that glorious announcement. The angels gave an announcement. What will we give Him? Prayer: “Dear Lord, we celebrate the first angelic announcement and anticipate the next angelic announcement: Your glorious return to earth! In Your strong name” Amen.

Psalm 95:3 Then the king will say to those at his right hand, ‘Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.’ Matthew 25:34-35 REFLECTION: Jesus is blessing His disciples, and us, with hope so that we will be more patient and have peace of mind by looking forward to the enjoyment of God’s heavenly kingdom. Let us not be weary, we are on the right course. We remember daily that the beginning of our salvation flows directly from a higher source. Jesus is reminding us that our salvation starts with the undeserved favor of God. The verse, ‘Come, you that are blessed by my Father’, describes someone who is dear to God or loved by God. This phrase gives us a reason to praise God and worship him. Genesis 24:31 Laban (he was the brother of Rebekah, the woman who married Isaac and bore Jacob) said to him, “Come and stay with us, you who are blessed by the Lord! Why are you standing here outside the town when I have a room all ready for you and a place prepared for the camels?” The phrase, “You who are blessed by the Lord!”, means you acknowledge and give credit to God for all that he owns. Christ is describing to us that God has given his salvation with the undeserved love he brings upon us. We who are under the guidance of the Holy Spirit in this life are predestined to live an eternal life. PRAYER TIME: Heavenly Father, I come now before you Lord Jesus and sing praises to your Name.
