Plainwell Holds A Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for The Rabbit Boutiques Plainwell was excited to welcome Zelda and Richard Schippers back as local business owners. A Ribbon Cutting ceremony and Grand Opening was held on Saturday, December 9, 2023. Zelda explains, "We had no plans of re-opening The Rabbit, but it was so successful previously. AGE 98 - PLAINWELL, MI Madeline passed away, Sunday, December 17, 2023, at her home in Plainwell. She was born September 29, 1925, in Royalton, Kentucky, the daughter of Fred and Ida (Prater) Risner. Madeline enjoyed quilting, gardening, and going to garage sales. She was an excellent cook and liked feeding people. Madeline was happiest when surrounded by her family. She was a member of Orangeville Pentecostal Church for over 60 years. In October 1941 she married Adolph Reed who passed away in 1982. Surviving are her children, Clovis Reed, Clarence Reed, Sue (Dave) Shumaker, Wanda Morris, Jo Golden, Jerry (Pat) Reed, Ruth Rhoades, Donna Reed-Hall, Doug Reed, John Reed and Eric Reed; daughter-inlaw, Dorothea Reed; 35 grandchildren; 47 greatgrandchildren; 31 great-great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way; special sister-in-law, Ida Risner along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Kenneth; 5 sons-in-law; 1 daughter-in-law; grandsons, Jeff Jackson and Jason Jackson; great-grandson, Caleb Smith; siblings, Harlow Risner, Hazel Fitzpatrick, Lawrence Risner and Luther Risner and special nephew, Archie Fitzpatrick. A funeral serivce was held on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at the Orangeville Pentecostal Church, with Pastor Mike Risner officiating. Burial followed at Oakhill Cemetery in Orangeville. Contributions in memory of Madeline may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Christmas was always a special time in my family growing up. I am thankful that I had Christian parents who lived God’s love and encouraged us to do the same. Some favorite childhood memories included visiting our Grandparents, participating in the children’s Christmas program at church, singing in the High School Christmas concert, caroling to shut-ins and attending the Christmas Eve service. Of course, opening our presents on Christmas morning was always a joy. These traditions continued in our married life. Our love for Jesus and each other expanded in the birth of our two children and our five grandchildren. We have always said that we experience Christmas every time we see our children and grandchildren. Our annual before Christmas gathering is packed with good food, much laughter, exchanging gifts and just experiencing the joy of being together. Of course, none of these gifts would be possible if God had not given us the greatest gift of all … the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ. The love of God is better experienced than explained. In 2 Corinthians 9:15, Apostle calls the Gift “indescribable.” Other translations use the words “unspeakable” “inestimable” “incomparable” and “inexpressible.” Let’s take a closer look. God’s Greatest Gift • The unexpected place … Who would have thought our King of Kings would be born in a manger, rather than a palace? • The timeless Gift - Hebrews 13:8 • The costly Gift - Jesus was born to die on a cross for our sins (I Corinthians 15:3). • The loving Gift -Never-ending love (I Corinthians 13:8); Never-ending grace (John 1:14); Neverending hope (Hebrews 10:23); Never-ending peace (John 14:27). • The priceless Gift - How can we put a price tag on God’s love? • The perfect Gift - the Gift that keeps on giving. • The Eternal Gift - Eternal life (John 3:16). • The personal Gift - Luke 2:11

Christmas Project 2023 Plainwell Volunteer
Celebrating 50 Years of Community Service! The 50th annual Plainwell Volunteer Christmas Project was successful in helping over 185 families. Our community pulled together to help brighten the holiday season for over 750 people living the Plainwell area. Individuals, groups, and businesses privately sponsored over 30 families! The remaining families received items donated by the community and packed by volunteers at the Plainwell High School on December 15th. More volunteers helped recipients load food, gifts, cleaning and personal hygiene items the following morning.

Brewtus came to the Allegan County animal shelter as a lost dog on 10/9/23. He is such a cool-looking dog - it’s surprising that no owner came looking for him. In the shelter’s care, he’s been neutered and brought up to date on vaccinations/prevention. It is estimated that he is 3 years old. Don’t let the name mislead you, Brewtus is no brute! When this handsome guy went for one of his first walks with a volunteer, they shared how pleasantly surprised they were with his leash manners and that he didn’t pull on the leash at all! He does especially well on long line walks with the freedom to roam and sniff to his heart’s content. At the shelter, Brewtus likes to blow off steam by playing with toys. He loves them all, but especially balls and soft toys! Brewtus would make a wonderful hiking companion or adventure buddy! He could potentially join a home that includes other playful dogs and/or older “dog-savvy” kids. If there is another dog in the home, a meet and greet will be scheduled to ensure they’re a good match. Since he’s a big, playful guy (weighs ~75 lbs), a home with “big kids” would be his best fit. REFLECTION: There was a man named John the Baptist (JTB) who began a new conversation about God. This conversation historically changes the direction of the entire world. The purpose of JTB’s birth and life was to announce to the whole human race that God, the Creator and Sustainer of life itself, is now living in the flesh among us. His name is Jesus Christ, born in Bethlehem to John’s Aunt Mary and Uncle Joseph and raised in Nazareth. He is the one true Son of God. JTB is so unbending no one would doubt him. Upon this announcement, Christ began to show himself first to JTB’s then to John’s disciples. These men become witnesses to this earth-shaking truth. JTB’s mission in life was to make ready the way of Christ. Jesus first appears physically (comes out to be baptized) then spiritually (Spirit falls on Jesus) to JTB. John 1:32-34 reads, “Then John testified, “I saw the Holy Spirit descending like a dove from heaven and resting upon him. I didn’t know he was the one, but when God sent me to baptize with water, he told me, ‘The one on whom you see the Spirit descend and rest is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’ I saw this happen to Jesus, so I testify that he is the Chosen One of God.” (NLT) The next day the Lamb of God begins to select a core of disciples who will dedicate their lives to proclaim that Jesus Christ is God’s eternal Son. Christ does not need the testimony of humans. Jesus even says in John 5:34-35 ”Of course, I have no need of human witnesses, but I say these things so you might be saved. John was like a burning and shining lamp, and you were excited for a while about his message.” (NLT) The need now for witnesses is not for the sake of Christ, but for our sake. People continually doubt the testimony of these disciples. The Gospel of Christ found in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John is extensively examined. So, if you are seeking the meaning of Christmas, you are most likely responding to God’s love for you. He is drawing you near to him. Merry Christmas! PRAYER TIME: Heavenly Father, today I will speak of your unfailing love forever! Thank you, Father, for your forgiveness of sin from when I was young and foolish. NOW HIRING Auto Detailer/Custodian Zeigler Chrysler of Plainwell is now hiring a Full-Time Auto Detailer/Custodian. As a working Detailer, you must be extremely thorough in cleaning, polishing, and waxing the automobile, both inside and out, to produce a show-quality level of detail. This position also ensures that all vehicles are prepped for delivery, clean, and on time while adhering to the department delivery schedule. The Detailer will also cautiously move cars on the property organizing them in a presentable manner. For the Custodial part of the job, you will help keep the building/ grounds up in a presentable manner. Successful candidates must: • Have a valid MI Driver’s license. • Have a good Motor Vehicle Record. • Be able to pass a criminal background check. • Be able to pass a drug test. • Great attention to detail • A positive view of work and enjoys providing an excellent customer experience. • Friendly communication skills. • Excellent attendance record in past roles. • Have the ability to work 4 weekdays plus Saturday. • Flexibility in work duties.
