I currently have my house under contract and I am not sure if I should buy or rent my next home, what is your opinion? For starters with the market currently being a Buyer’s Market it’s a no brainer. You buy! The fundamental issues at stake far outweigh any other reasons. Here are just a few things to take into consideration. First, look at the extremely large selection of homes to choose from. The inventory of houses on the market suggests that when looking, find the deal that fits your family and budget. Price is the biggest issue when selling a home in today’s market and you should also make it a big issue when you are buying. If you don’t get the deal you were hoping for then keep looking. In addition, the tax deduction you get when buying versus renting is unquestionable. Individuals are permitted to deduct interest paid on mortgage debt of up to $1 million dollars. The deduction is available on interest on mortgages for a principle residence and one additional residence. Most people think just the primary residence interest is deductable. Also, interest on up to $100,000 of debt on home equity loans or lines of credit also qualify for a tax deduction. Another consideration is the fact that over time, the mortgage balance decreases and equity builds, even if the value of the home does not increase. Let’s not forget the ability to remodel and redecorate the home to match your needs and taste. With that said, I hope this was helpful.
