Soldiers of “Blue Platoon,” Company D, 1-12 Combined Arms Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, take a knee in prayer before they head out on a mission into Khalis, Iraq, March 30. The prayer is a tradition of the platoon before every mission by a different Soldier, asking for security & protection.

A Soldier pulls security as a CH-47 Chinook helicopter lands. The helicopter is transporting detainees apprehended during a raid on a suspected terrorist camp in southwest Iraq. The Soldier is assigned to the 101st Pathfinder Company, 101st Airborne Division. U.S.

Staff Sgt. Riley Smallwood, a Soldier with Co. B, 2nd Bn., 8th Cav. Regt. and a native of Griffin, Ga., plays with young children Jan. 15 outside the newest girls and boys school in Mushadhidah, Iraq. Smallwood was one of several Soldiers who visited the schools to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony and to deliver school supplies.

Why did you and your wife buy the Magazine?

Answer: Well, we own a real estate company called Assurance Realty & Property Management Group Inc. and last July we began a “Flat Fee MLS Listing Service”. It’s where we help people list their house in the local MLS for a fraction of a normal real estate commission. When we started this service our goal was to simply help people sell their house in this down economy. When Kevin Stone approached us about buying the magazine it was definitely all God’s timing. After much prayer we felt it was going to be up to God to put the merger together and here we are.

How have you improved Our House Magazine so far?

Answer: Let me first say that Kevin and Kim did a great job. We knew the magazine needed to give people what they were paying for, “Exposure to help them sell their house”. So, we decided to increase the number of locations where the magazine could be picked up. To help this we went out and signed national contracts with large companies to put our magazine in their locations such as Winn Dixie Grocery Stores, Kmart Department Stores, Sears, Blockbuster Video and CVS Pharmacy just to name a few. These are all long term contracts that give us full control over these locations for a very long time, not to mention we are the only for sale by owner magazine in all of these places.

Answer: We quickly grew to almost double the locations the magazine was now found at and that meant one thing for sure. We needed more magazines printed each month. The second month we owned the magazine we increased our magazine count by more than 20% and have increased pretty much every month since.

What would you say sets you apart from all other For Sale by Owner Magazines?

Answer: The biggest thing would be we are a full service real estate company that’s willing to help a for sale by owner. We have all the expertise & tools that for sale by owners need to make sure everything in their transaction goes right. When selling your house the last thing you want to do is price your house above market value and not sell. What good is a contract on it you can’t get the appraisal needed to close. With all of our advertisers we offer a “Free Market Analysis” to help you ask the correct price so you won’t stay on the market long. As you see in the magazine Billy Smith sold his house within hours of our magazine hitting the stands. I have been in the real estate business for over 15 years and I just wished I had done all of this sooner.

You mentioned you increased the number of locations, how many do you have now?

What’s next for Our House Magazine?

How many monthly magazines Answer: Our first month we only printed around 10,000 magazines. The second month, 12,000. Then the following month 15,000. Then 16,500. Then 17,500. We now guarantee a minimum amount of at least 15,000 magazines even during a slow month. That’s 50% more than when we started.
