Fall and Spring classes available Classes available in both the fall and the spring semesters. Deadline to fill out the interest form for courses offered at CMU Tech next fall is February 16, and some programs may require an interview.

Focus on your studies, we'll handle the rest Mesa County Valley School District 51 (SD51) students have a unique opportunity to take a variety of college classes while in high school. SD51 pays for students' tuition and provides busing to and from CMU Tech. Taking college and high school classes concurrently enables students to get a jump on their college and career goals by receiving free college credit, and even earning a technical certificate or degree to begin working right out of high school.

High School Student Requirements • Students must earn a “C” or higher. • Students are expected to perform at a college level by completing all assigned homework, studying and coming to class prepared.

Cost and Transportation • Most of the concurrent programs' tuition, fees and books are paid for by SD51. There are some programs that have small annual fees or require purchasing textbooks. Talk to your CCA for more information. • Tech Scholar courses require a small annual fee and will not require students to purchase books. • SD51 provides free busing from all high schools to CMU Tech. Free parking available on the CMU Tech campus.

CMU Tech Campus CMU Tech offers career and technical programs. You can earn college credit or a credential to help you start working right after high school. Courses are taught by instructors with industry experience who will support you as you pursue an opportunity for a better life. Colorado Mesa University Campus High school students can take Essential Learning courses, also known as general education courses, or freshman-level courses on the CMU main campus. Potential subjects include: art, biology, English, history, physics and marketing to name a few. Talk to your College and Career Advisor to learn more.

Your High School Campus Central High School, Fruita Monument High School, Grand Junction High School and Palisade High School each offer different CMU general education courses and CMU Tech programs each semester. Talk to your high school counselor to learn more.

CMU TECH Programs AGRICULTURE SCIENCE • Learn about farm and ranch operations along with livestock production from reproduction to processing. • Learn the concepts behind plant propagation and crop production. • Practice knowledge learned about composting and how to benefit the soil quality. • Understand the basic anatomy and physiology of livestock.

ALLIED HEALTH : MEDICAL OFFICE ASSISTANT • Prepare to work in different types of doctor’s offices. • Train in both administrative and clinical skills. • Earn a technical certificate in two years. • Become eligible to take the AMT National Certification Exam after course completion.

ALLIED HEALTH: NURSE AIDE (CNA)/ EMERGENCY MEDICAL RESPONDER (EMR) • Learn basic nursing skills, personal care skills, care of cognitively impaired clients, infection control and more. • Gain a professional understanding of healthcare and use of medical terms. • Obtain CPR certification. • One semester of CNA and one semester of EMR. • Earn Nurse Aide Certificate.

ALLIED HEALTH: PHARMACY TECHNICIAN • Learn a variety of topics such as marketing, management, workplace behavior, entrepreneurship, customer service and more. • Earn a Business Foundations Technical Certificate and an Administrative Support Certificate if you complete two years.

ANIMAL CAREER PREPARATION • Focus on both the veterinary field and the animal science industry. • Comprehend and communicate with medical terminology used in animal careers and practices. • Explore companion animal behavior and how these behaviors can be modified. • Understand fundamental farm and ranch operations along with basic concepts of farm animal anatomy and physiology.

APPLIED BUSINESS • Learn a variety of topics such as marketing, management, workplace behavior, entrepreneurship, customer service and more. • Earn a Business Foundations Technical Certificate and an Administrative Support Certificate if you complete two years.

BAKING AND PASTRY • Learn to make yeast-raised products, quick breads, chocolates, cakes and frozen desserts. • Graduates from this program are ready to step directly into an entry-level job with skills and knowledge to build a successful career in the baking and pastry industry.

COMPUTER-AIDED DESIGN (CAD) - ARCHITECTURAL • Learn computer-aided design skills with AutoCAD. • Learn to design and create residential and commercial construction documents. • Explore design strategies and architectural theory.

COMPUTER-AIDED DESIGN (CAD) - MECHANICAL • Learn the basics of 3D printing and to 3D model parts using Inventor and SolidWorks software. • Create your own 3D model parts and assemblies.

CONSTRUCTION ELECTRICAL • Learn how to maintain and troubleshoot electrical systems in commercial, industrial and residential locations. • Learn electrical theory from the molecule to the generation of the light switch in your house. • Learn the foundational concepts of construction electrical that you will be able to use for the entirety of your electrical career. • Earn a certificate after one year.

CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY • Understand the value of construction safety. • Learn the basics of construction plan reading. • Acquire a general knowledge of construction materials and their integrated systems.

CULINARY ARTS • Explore the intersection of science and art through food. • Learn how to work and lead in a commercial kitchen and practice cooking and baking a wide variety of foods. • Opportunity to take the ServSafe Manager examination. • Earn a Food Preparation Technical Certificate upon completion.

DIGITAL FILMMAKING • A project-based approach to learning Digital Filmmaking. • Two years of essential courses in writing and directing. • Enjoy a multi-lab environment and utilize industry equipment and theory. • Animation track available starting Fall 2024.

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION • Focus on supporting children from birth to age eight and their families. • Learn and develop skills in child development, health and safety protocols, curriculum planning, preparing classroom environments, assessment and observation, and guidance strategies. • Earn an assistant teacher certificate in one year, and a teacher certificate in two years.

ELECTRIC LINEWORKER • Covers all areas of training needed for those who desire to become an apprentice electric lineworker. • Learn the basic skills in the study of electricity and the fundamentals of electric line work. • Using full wood-pole fall restraint systems, students learn to climb and work on industryheight wooden poles.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN (EMT) • Develop skills to care for patients in their home, at the scene of an accident and during transport in an ambulance. • Learn to assess the patient’s condition, manage respiratory and cardiac problems and take care of trauma injuries. • Must be 18+ to enter this program.

FIRE SCIENCE • Get hands-on practice at state-of-the-art live burn facilities. • Experience operations such as house fires, car fires and others. • Prepare to take the State Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control Firefighter I exam. • Students have the opportunity to obtain EPA certification.

GERONTOLOGY • Prepare to work with older adults in a wide variety of settings including senior centers, adult day centers, home care, retirement communities, assisted living and more. • This program focuses on a multidisciplinary perspective on aging, providing students with a career that has diverse employment opportunities.

HEATING, VENTILATION AND AIR CONDITIONING (HVAC) • Learn entry-level residential skills in heating, ventilation and air conditioning. • An HVAC Fundamentals Technical Certificate can be obtained in four months, which can be stacked into CMU Tech's HVAC, Construction Supervision or Construction Electrical associate degrees and CMU’s construction management bachelor’s degree.

INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY • Build a foundation for network support and the ability to troubleshoot and repair different types of technology. • Build a better understanding of the Internet and its uses in life today, as well as potential for future applications. • Develop soft skills for working with other people as an information technology (IT) specialist.

LAND SURVEYING • Learn the fundamental measuring techniques and the associated mathematical principles to measure the earth’s surface. • Become familiar with computer aided drafting and geographical information systems.

MACHINING TECHNOLOGY • Broad overview of the manufacturing processes to safely set up and operate automated and non-automated machinery. • Demonstrate ethical and civic responsibility necessary for employees in the manufacturing industry. • Manufacture components to blueprint specifications. • Earn Entry Level Machining Technical Certificate upon completion of second year.

MECHATRONICS • Learn about the use of automation in factories, industry and everyday life. • Learn how to build electrical circuits, write programs and design mechanical systems by designing your own automated system. • Learn about the interface of electronics and mechanical devices. • Prepare for a job involving the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical and mechanical systems. 12


TRANSPORTATION SERVICES • Learn about and how to service the systems used in automobiles, trucks and other motorized vehicles. • Opportunity to become national industry certified while taking this program. • Earn Light Duty Automotive Foundations Technical Certificate each year.

UNMANNED AIRCRAFT SYSTEMS • Program prepares students to be a commercial Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) pilot. • Students develop skills in flight planning, programming, maintaining and piloting small UAS.

WELDING • Learn proficiency in SMAW, GMAW, OAC, OAW, PAC, blueprint reading, mathematics and safety. • Gain a clear understanding of how an industrial welding shop is run and how to be employable in the welding industry. • Earn a Basic Welder Certificate after the second year.

WILDLAND FIRE MANAGEMENT • Learn from current and retired career firefighters and incident meteorologists. • Learn to work with wildland fires in rural and urban areas.
