Colorado Community Media Gives Back Colorado Community Media is the publisher of six Douglas County Newspapers and websites. Those are the Highlands Ranch Herald, Lone Tree Voice, Parker Chronicle, Castle Pines News-Press, Castle Rock News-Press and the Douglas County News-Press. As owners of Colorado Community Media, my wife Ann and I have made Douglas County our home for the last 20 years. Douglas County is a fantastic place to live and raise a family, and we are first hand examples of that having raised three children here. Our mission at Colorado Community Media is to publish relevant hometown newspapers/websites that connect and improve our communities through balanced journalism, effective advertising and community involvement. Amongst the many things we do to increase the quality of life in our communities, is sponsor community events and non-profits every year. One example is the section you are reading to support Douglas County Gives Day where we have donated much of the printing, and all of the design and editing to make this section possible. There are 22 worthy Douglas County based non-profits in this Giving Guide that request your financial assistance on December 8th and throughout the year. Choosing between them will not be easy, but we hope this section will simplify the process. We ask you to open your wallets on December 8th and help make Douglas County an even better place to live by supporting one of more of these fine non-profits. It is the goal of the Douglas County Gives committee of volunteers to maximize the number of charitable dollars staying in Douglas County on December 8th. We ask our readers to help make that happen and this Giving Guide should make it easy for you to find one or more worthwhile charities to support. Hutchison YEAR ESTABLISHED 2009 MISSION STATEMENT Mission Statement: The Chelsea Hutchison Foundation grants comfort and hope to those affected by epilepsy. We raise funds to provide education about SUDEP and to provide seizure response dog grants and movement monitors that help to protect against SUDEP. We respect the value and quality of life of every person living with epilepsy. We are dedicated to providing opportunities that allow individuals and families greater independence, increased confidence, ability to enjoy social environments, and community understanding.

ABOUT US We are a place where seniors gather, get involved and go places, all with our motto, “Loving Life in the Second Half.” We provide a variety of programming for our 900 members and visitors, offering sports teams, games, food events on-site and in the metro area, wellness programs, and trips including those on everyone’s “bucket list.” In 2014, the Center conducted about 1600 activities with a total of more than 39,000 participants. The Center also runs a transportation program for area seniors, providing over 10,000 rides last year to medical appointments, grocery stores, meal service and activities at the Senior Center, and to other local destinations. As Douglas County’s senior population continues to grow at a fast rate, we will grow our programming for seniors along with it; however, funding is stretched thin and we seek your support.

ABOUT US The Chelsea Hutchison Foundation (“CHF”) directly serves individuals and families living with epilepsy. The safety and comfort of these individuals, as well as the awareness raised by the organization, also directly affects the community; peers, teachers, other families and the general public benefit from whole and healthy presence and contribution of the individual in community activities as well as from the knowledge that the individual is taking every step possible to safeguard their wellbeing. Since its founding in November of 2009, CHF has reached thousands of individuals with vital information concerning SUDEP, and has given grants for seizure response dogs and/ or placed life-saving equipment with families. Currently, CHF has provided over 86 grants toward seizureresponse dogs and has provided over 315 monitoring devices in homes. Most families believe that these measures have saved the lives of their loved ones.

Since 1987 DLC has protected over 22,100 acres from being developed, in perpetuity. These lands include agricultural lands, public recreation open space, scenic viewscapes, critical wildlife habitat, and wetlands. Of that 22,100 acres, 11,102 acres are open to the public and provide great trail and recreational experiences for all to enjoy for many generations to come. 10,998 acres are private lands that protect agricultural operations, open space, scenic viewscapes, critical wildlife habitat, and wetlands from ever being developed. It is DLC’s job to ensure that these properties are protected in perpetuity by visiting each property annually. The hardest part of our job begins once a conservation easement is put in place to protect the land.

Our vision originated from a faith based organization’s outreach and our value proposition to the community is simply an extension of a helping hand regardless of a guest’s religious persuasion. Accordingly, we just want to come alongside those who are in need and do not require guests to participate in religious activities to receive services.

ABOUT US We believe that it is God’s will to see people living full, productive and responsible lives. We believe that as a charitable organization it is our duty to be fiscally responsible and good stewards of every donated dollar given to help families in need. We believe God can provide hope to those experiencing difficult times in their lives by allowing us to meet their physical needs. For $50 a month, you can feed a family of four with $500 worth of great food. For $100 a month, you can feed a family of 4 for 2 months, etc. We also serve the 1 in 5 children in our schools who are not eating on the weekends because of suburban poverty. We do this through our Food for Thought program where we partner with local schools to provide them with enough food for those children to eat and come back to school on Monday fully fed and ready to go. Please contact SECOR for more information on how to support this critical program loving the most vulnerable.

ABOUT US Wellspring Community offers adults with special needs some very unique opportunities. We are creating business enterprises where adults with Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism and other special needs work alongside trained staff and volunteers to learn baking and packaging in our Best Buddies Bakery; ceramics and woodworking in our Wellspring Workshop; and planting and harvesting in our community garden. In addition, we offer a wide variety of on-going education and enrichment classes including art, dance, drama, social skills, and much more. Under the direction of a professional vocal coach our Wellspring Wonders Choir receives musical training and performs before local audiences. Our social and recreation program, Club 21, provides our folks safe, supervised and fun weekend evenings out with friends. Your support will help to expand our life-giving programs and establish our residential program. We are grateful for your support!
