The Colorado Medical Society is not a single-issue organization and health care continues to be a very hot topic at the Capitol. We saw bills in 2022 on all of the priority issues below and achieved important victories for Colorado physicians. To continue this work, we need your contribution; see the back page for ways you can be involved.

WHAT CAN PHYSICIANS EXPECT FROM THE 2022 ELECTION?

REP. SHANNON BIRD D-Westminster I have been working with CMS since I was first elected, and whenever I sought feedback on bills they have always provided helpful insights grounded in the real-world experience of Colorado physicians emphasizing the need to prioritize patient access to quality health care. CMS has been, and continues to be, a reliable and trusted thought partner for me on legislation.

REP. COLIN LARSON R-Littleton As a legislator with no professional background in health care, I am incredibly grateful for the insight and information provided by CMS at the Capitol to help me understand physician and patient priorities in the legislative process.

SENATOR BOB RANKIN

BY CMS LOBBYISTS JERRY JOHNSON AND DAN JABLAN The 2022 election will have a profound effect on issues affecting physicians and patients. While every election cycle results in approximately one-third of the House and Senate being filled with new members, this election will also likely result in a narrowing of the gap between the two parties in the House, and very possibly will flip control of the Senate. Your lobby team - working closely with specialty association lobbyists - is busy educating prospective new members about our issues, supporting the COMPAC-led interview process and building relationships with candidates. CMS expects to be in the center of half a dozen major fights during the 2023 session. It is critical that physicians actively join the fight - meeting and interviewing candidates, sharing information about races in their community, supporting COMPAC and helping candidates understand the impact of legislation on their constituents.
