Fall 2017

WELCOME ! Whether you are new to College Heights or a long time member, we are so glad you are here! Every person who walks through our doors is important to us, so if you ever feel like just another number, we’re doing something wrong and we give you permission to tell us about it! We know that you, like every person who comes to College Heights, are on a unique journey of faith marked by a quest to answer the questions you face. “Will I fit in here with this group of people?” “Is this a place where I can serve?” “Can these people help me grow in my relationship with God?” Or maybe you are wrestling with difficult and disturbing questions like, “Where is God in the midst of tragedy?” “Is there hope for me to be forgiven by God?” “What happens to me when I die?” “How can I live a life that matters?” Wherever you are on your journey, we want to walk together with you. It is in Christian community that we learn our true identity, what our purpose is, and who we are meant to become. At College Heights, you can be a part of something bigger than yourself. It is only together that we can carry out our mission: to make disciples of Jesus Christ who change the world through the power of the Holy Spirit to the glory of God. We invite you to join us in • praying about everything to strengthen our trust and love for God; • speaking the good news of Jesus’ rescue, healing, and purpose; • growing by following Jesus and choosing God’s way every day; and • loving like Jesus loved by giving time, resources, gifts, and energy to help all people encounter God’s love. As a group of God’s people we care about you and your family and we’re here not only to help you grow spiritually, but to help in any way we can! 1

Did you know that Jesus’ plan to reach the world...to change the world...is you? It’s the church! That is Jesus’ plan! The church is a community of committed disciples of Jesus who make other disciples. Being in relationship with Jesus and with each other is the core of who we are.

LEARNING

SMALL GROUPS

individuals, families and communities. We will change the world...through relationship!

In a small group, we create an environment for sharing our lives with one another, praying for one another and the world around us, growing together in Christ, caring for one another, and reaching out to those around us who also need Jesus.

Francis Schaeffer wrote that “Christian community is the last apologetic”; meaning that how To be a Christian is to belong love one another is how the world to the community of Christians. will know that we are Christians! Come and find where you belong. This goes beyond a Sunday morning gathering. Worshiping shoulder to shoulder on Sunday morning is important. And teaching and preaching the Word of God is something Jesus modeled and told his people they should do. At the same time, if we are not living out those very teachings in our day-to-day life, we are missing a large part of being a Christian. Learning to obey and live in a way that honors Christ is always done in community.

If you want to join or even start a small group, connect with our Small Groups Minister, Josh Beck at jbeck@chjoplin.org or 624.6915 x320 or Kaele Ward, Small Groups Ministry Administrative Assistant, at x181 or kward@chjoplin.org.

We believe that focused small groups led by intentional small group leaders will change

CHILDREN

ELEMENTARY

LaunchPad is our program for elementary students. Our goal in LaunchPad is to give every child a solid foundation for their spiritual journey. We do this by going all the way thru the Bible every year. Each week we dive into a Bible story to learn the facts and discuss how we can apply it to our lives. We also spend time in small groups to learn how to talk about Jesus and share our lives with others. We use FUN to make church enjoyable and memorable; hopefully this will be the best hours of a child’s week. Every week we like to...PLAY HARD, SING LOUD, LOVE GOD.

PARENTS,

We want your children to feel like they BELONG in LaunchPad. We design our time together to teach them about Jesus and connect them with friends their own age and adult leaders who will engage them, encourage them, and be a consistent voice in their lives. We know kids love to have fun, so we do our best to include that, too. It’s a great way to bond with friends and learn about Jesus.

ADULTS,

We are always on the lookout for people who love Jesus & love children. If you share our desire to establish a strong foundation for our children’s spiritual journey, we would love to talk to you about joining the team. We have lots of different roles to meet a wide variety of passions, skills, and comfort levels. So if you are thinking about it...JUST SAY YES to joining the LaunchPad team!
