Colby is a springboard, offering networks and experiences that help our graduates start their lives after college with a strong sense of purpose and considerable momentum.

AMANDA CABRAL ’23

economics major and environmental studies minor

Affordable Housing Analyst

Freddie Mac

At Colby, Amanda often looked for ways to pair the analytical skills honed in her economics coursework with her interest in environmental justice. Through multiple opportunities to conduct research within the field, she developed a passion for improving the living conditions of vulnerable communities. Amanda hopes to build on the work she began here by creating and funding solutions that rectify the legacies of housing discrimination in her native California.

MATT KANG ’23

English major and economics minor

Masters candidate in operations research Columbia University

Matt arrived at Colby without a specific major in mind. He credits faculty and peer encouragement to explore unfamiliar areas of study— and a set of experiences— with shaping his eventual path. Through English coursework, assisting classmates as an economics tutor, and teaching financial literacy to local Waterville students with the First Generation Investors Club, he discovered the power of broadening his interests and aspirations beyond a single area. He’s currently enrolled in a dual-degree engineering program, more evidence of his ever-expanding perspective.

Now, as part of an all-women team conducting tropospheric atmospheric chemistry research in partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, she hopes to match the level of shared purpose and community she found at Colby. Eventually, Morgan plans to pursue a Ph.D. in atmospheric chemistry and help mentor the next generation of scientists.

psychology major and African-American studies minor Ph.D. candidate in counseling psychology University of North Texas

Javon’s psychology studies at Colby have spurred his interest in helping others examine, and overcome, their individual challenges. As captain of the football team and a key member of several community building organizations on campus, including the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, he frequently created opportunities that brought people of various backgrounds together and fostered connection.
