A
s I sat down to write this article, I searched for a topic. I then thought about our magazine distribution route and a topic we overhear all the time. When two drivers get together in a restaurant the discussion turns to their company, dispatch, equipment and the one I would like to discuss- the Hours of Service regulations. It would seem many drivers spend more time discussing the regulations among themselves and trying to beat them rather than trying to find a way to work with them. The bottom line is that the regulations as they stand now are the laws of the land and are what we have to work with. When you listen to the discussions it would seem that many drivers have a full proof way to massage or manipulate their log books and the rules. It would be helpful if those drivers would spend their time more productively by finding ways to work within the laws we have or if you don’t like what we have, lobby for change. But for now please work within the rules. I would like to challenge our readers to give me their point of view. E-mail me at ken@coast2coastpages.com. have been in the Transportation Industry for 32 years- half my life. During that time, I have held just about every possible job in the industry, with the exception of dispatch.
