Quest offers fitness classes customized meal plans and workout programs, wellness coaching, metabolic testing, health and fitness workshops and seminars and more. “I don’t want it to be just another fitness studio, but a wellness center where people can come to learn, get motivated, and be inspired along their lifelong journey. Just down the road in Jessup, construction is underway at the former St. Mary’s Assumption Church, 517 Third St. It will soon become the Runco Elite Sports Academy. How Ryan Runco, the owner, got started in fitness and sports training is “actually a pretty cool story,” he said. “I always loved sports and wanted to get into coaching but never pulled the trigger. One day out of the blue I received a call from Judge Tom Munley. He asked if I would teach his son Logan how to play the quarterback position. From there I thought, ‘why stop at one, why not train other quarterbacks?’ That’s how the business grew. Without that call from Judge Munley, the Sports Academy might never have gotten started.” Runco said the facility will offer training in “everything from baseball, softball, basketball, soccer and football training. The Academy will offer individual and small group training as well as team rentals. I have

The seventh annual Holy Name Society communion breakfast was held recently at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Throop. Two longtime altar servers were honored: Richard Chowanec, a Mid Valley junior, and Zach Blau, a sophomore at Mid Valley. Chowanec is the son of Stephanie and Rich Chowanec. He is involved with the Leo club, student government, science club and is a center on the Spartans football team. His long range plans include going to college for engineering. Blau is the son of Julie Zabrowski and Randy Blau. Zach has assisted at the altar for eight years, starting in the third grade.

It Keeps Me Working - John from Olyphant

I never believed in Chiropractic until I started going. It started with a work injury years ago when I slipped on the step. Unfortunately, I severely injured my back and ruptured my discs and I’ve had trouble ever since. A few years ago I finally had to have surgery to remove the ruptured disc. Sometimes my back goes into spasms and then I can’t move. My legs hurt me, especially if I stand too long. When it goes out I get an adjustment and Dr. Glidewell puts it back in. The last time it was so bad that I thought I was going to need surgery again, but the Chiropractic helped. There is no way that I would be able to work without the Chiropractic treatment. I tell people try it, it keeps me working. The MD’s who follow my case can’t believe how Dr. Glidewell is able to help me because my back is so bad, but they say keep going to him, it’s working.

* Two clinical studies have shown that binax provides better than normal hearing in certain demanding environments (University of Northern Colorado, 2014; Oldenburg Hörzentrum, 2013): Speech Reception Thresholds (SRT) in cocktail-party situations improved up to 2.9 dB for wearers with mild to moderate hearing loss using Carat binax or Pure binax hearing aids with narrow directionality, compared to people with normal hearing. ** An independent clinical study in the US has shown that primax provided a significant improvement in ease of listening in demanding listening environments. A newly developed methodology using objective brain behavior measures (Electroencephalographic data), showed a significant reduction in listening effort for mild to moderate hearing impaired subjects using primax hearing aids in speech-in-noise situations applying advanced features such as Narrow Focus and EchoShield.

The holidays are just around the corner, and that means you’ll most likely have some shopping to do in order to cross off the items on your to-do list. Groceries and supplies for Christmas dinner, gifts for family and friends, stylish outfits for the many, many parties on the horizon—getting it all together can be a rather daunting task. Luckily, by shopping close to home, you can save yourself some trouble and a lot of stress. Here are three reasons why shopping local during the holiday season makes sense.

1. No more traffic Staying close to home can help you avoid a lot of frustration during the weeks leading up to the holidays. Nothing is more annoying than the inevitable slow crawl to and from large shopping malls and department stores, or the time spent roaming congested parking lot alleys looking for that elusive free spot. By visiting your local businesses, you’ll skip the aggravating traffic while reducing your gas consumption and carbon footprint in the process. And if you’re lucky enough, you could even run your errands on foot, which provides an added bonus for your health.

2. Premium servi vice Of course, shopping online or at big box stores can save you time and money. However, that pales in comparison to the personalized customer service you’ll receive from your local businesses. A fashion consultant who already knows your tastes and style will help you pick out the perfect dress and matching accessories in a blink of an eye. What’s more, buying local will let you take advantage of exceptional after-sales services. Need to return an item? Not only is the store just around the corner, but the familiar faces behind the counter will also make the process as quick and as hassle-free as possible.

3. Great for the economy Local commerce is at the heart of any region’s economic vitality. When people shop close to home, they keep their community strong and vibrant by creating jobs and enabling services. In other words, by patronizing the businesses in your neighborhood, you’ll be helping to improve the overall quality of your life. So this year, shop smart during the holidays and encourage your locally owned businesses!

From Helen’s Kitchen BY Lori KisheL

The 2016 holiday recipe exchange is underway. Please send me your favorite holiday recipes to share with our readers. With the holiday season upon us, there is no better time to start getting those holiday favorites ready for baking, filling your home with holiday cheer and sharing that joy with others. I am looking forward to another successful recipe exchange this year. Enjoy.

BUON NATALE BISCOTTI 1 stick butter 1 cup sugar 2-1/2 teaspoons baking powder 2 eggs 1 egg yolk 2 teaspoons finely shredded orange peel 3 cups all-purpose flour 3/4 cup chopped red candied cherries 3/4 cup chopped green candied cherries 1/2 cup coarsely chopped toasted almonds 1 beaten egg white 1 teaspoon water 2 tablespoons sugar Beat butter in large mixing bowl with an electric mixer on medium speed for 30 seconds. Add the 1 cup sugar and baking powder; beat until well blended. Add eggs, egg yolk and orange peel; beat until combined. Beat in as much of the flour as you can with the mixer, then stir in any remaining flour with the candied cherries and almonds. Divide dough in half and shape each half into a 14-inch roll. Place 3 inches apart on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Flatten slightly to a 2-inch width. Combine egg white and water; brush over dough. Sprinkle with the 2 tablespoons sugar. Bake at 350° for 20 to 25 minutes or until light brown. Cool on cookie sheet for 1 hour or until completely cool. Remove from cookie sheet and place on cutting board. Cut each loaf diagonally into ½-inch slices. Lay slices, cut side down, on cookie sheet and bake at 325° for 10 minutes. Turn slices to other side and bake about 10 minutes more or until crisp and dry. Remove and cool on wire rack. Yield: about 36 to 40 biscotti.

CHRISTMAS HONEY COOKIES 1 cup sugar 1/4 cup water 1/2 pound honey 2 teaspoons allspice 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon cloves 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg 1/2 stick butter 4 cups all-purpose flour 2 teaspoons baking soda 1 egg 1/3 cup water 1 egg yolk, lightly beaten To make filling: 1/2 cup heavy cream, heated 1-1/4 cups powdered sugar 6 ounces unsweetened chocolate, melted 1 teaspoon vanilla Brown 2 tablespoons of sugar in a large saucepan over medium-low heat. Add 1/4 cup water; cook and stir until sugar is dissolved. Add remaining sugar, honey, spices, and butter; bring to a boil, stirring. Remove from heat; cool. Add flour, baking soda, egg and 1/3 cup water. Knead 3 to 5 minutes; then cover and let stand 20 minutes. On a floured board, roll dough out to fit a 12-by-15-inch cookie sheet with sides. Butter and flour pan; fit in dough. Brush with egg yolk. Bake at 350° for 15 minutes. Cool in pan. Cut in half across the width. Mix together the filling ingredients thoroughly. Spread over half the baked dough, on its underside. Cover with remaining half, underside down, sandwich-style. Lay a sheet of foil or plastic wrap on top, place a heavy book on foil, cover and let stand overnight. Cut into small rectangular cookies. Store in an airtight container to prevent drying. Yield: about 4 dozen.
