n June 15, 2012 President Barack Obama and the Department of Homeland Security announced that deferred action would be granted to certain eligible undocumented immigrants. The new policy, known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), affords work authorization and protection from removal to as many as 1.76 million young people aged 15 through 30, for a renewable period of two years. To ensure the widest access possible to this process for eligible low-income and vulnerable applicants, CLINIC and its network worked together, as well as with partner organizations and the federal government. By the time the new policy took effect on August 15, 2012, CLINIC had already trained 632 service providers on how to prepare to assist DACA-eligible youths in their communities.
