TANNER SMITH O v e r v i e w : Va l u a b l e contributor to the Tiger program in each of his three seasons at Clemson... has appeared in 96 games during that time...has started 62 games the past two seasons for the Tigers...has shown steady improvement in several areas from his freshman year heading into his senior season...along with roomate and classmate Andre Young, will be expected to provide senior leadership for a young Tiger team in 2011-12...has scored 640 points in three years, an average of 6.7 points per game... has 192 assists and 107 steals heading into his final season...improved his assist-toturnover ratio and three-point accuracy as a junior...a veteran of 2,156 minutes at the collegiate level...when he was 12 years old he formed a nonprofit called Tanner’s Totes, which delivers tote bags full of items designed to help preteens and teenagers cope with long term care in hospitals across the country... first came up with the idea while writing a school paper in the fourth grade...his father was diagnosed with cancer when Tanner was a young child...his dad is cancer-free but suffers from what is known as Graft vs. Host disease...as a result of his charitable efforts, he and his family received a home makeover by celebrity designer Vern Yip...the makeover was shown by HGTV on the show “Deserving Design”...his story was well-documented in his first year with the Clemson program, as he received publicity from an ESPN.com article written by Dana O’Neil in February of 2009...his organization received over $20,000 in donations within one year after the article was published...
