Undoubtedly the greatest influence on the students of Julienne is that of their teachers. As the seniors of 1962, we are aware that they are in . large part responsible for the education we possess today. We shall always be grateful, to them for their inspiration and help. Our sincere hope is that future clas s es will come to appreciate and admire the faculty members of Juli~nne High School as much as we do.

I am the spirit of Julienne. I see many classes corne and go, along with thousands of happy memories. This year I welcomed the senior class of 1965. This is truly a wonderful class, one of the best I have seen. Even though the school was new to them, these girls adjusted well and fitted into the routine so smoothly that it seems they have always been here. Toyou, Freshman Class of 1962, will corne three wonderful, happy years of fun, laughter, and of course, study. When you are gone, I will be the one who will remembe r you with fondest thoughts, for I am the spirit of Julienne.

The Julienne Student Council is a charter member of the Dayton Area, State, and National Associations of Student Councils. One elected representative from each of the thirty-two homerooms meets with the officers and interested students at meetings held twice monthly. The Student â‚Ź:ouncil Board, consisting of the six officers and a representative from each of the four classes, plans each meeting and all activities. General assemblies are called for special programs and policy changes. An appointed committee acts as the Student Council Historians, keeping account of projects held during the school year. Major projects of this year were the "Freshman Welcome," "Friendship Week," the annual student council dance, collection of candy for underprivileged children at Halloween time, the traditional father-daughter dance, and decoration of the school and the selection of gifts for the teachers at Christmas. The second semester started off with two weeks of cleaning of lockers and uniforms, followed by a panel discussion on personal appearance by students of Julienne and Chaminade. A Holy Hour was a special Lenten project. April and May ushered in campaign speeches, rallies, and posters -- all necessary for the election of the student council officers for the new school year 1962-1963.

Sacred Heart League The League of the Sacred Heart is a school-wide organization which promotes devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. At monthly meetings, the promoters from each homeroom discuss the current intention of our Holy Father and the Mis s ion Intention, both of which are included in the Morning Offering. Promoters encourage the girls to receive the sacraments and to wear the Sacred Heart Badge. In reparation to the Sacred Heart the whole student body participates in monthly projects such as prayers for conversions and acts of penance.

Sodality The Sodality of Our Lady is an organization formed for two main purposes; namely, personal sanctification of the sodalist and active work in the apostolate of the Church. The Sodality fulfills these purposes through prayer, especially devotion to our Blessed Mother, and through various projects which are proposed at the weekly meetings. The Sodality newspaper enables each sodalist to keep informed about the activities of the other class groups. The aim of each member of the Sodality is to give herselft to our Blessed Mother, and, through consecration, to become an instrument for the salvation of souls and the Christianization of the world.

Many activities are annual projects, such as Mis sion Day, the collection of Christmas cards and leper bandages, Lenten and monthly spiritual exercises. Many girls also attend the national convention held at Notre Dame every two years in August.

The Junior-Senior Glee Club has been a part of Julienne for about eight years. Members, chosen by the director at tryouts early in the school year, are those who enjoy singing. The girls practice twice a week for an hour after school and must attend three-fourths of the meetings to sustain membership. The Glee Club's 1961-1962 program has been a very successful one. Besides singing for different parish Altar Societies and pr e senting a Christmas program, the members sang in the Spring Concert. A joint concert with the Chaminade Glee Club at Memorial Hall rounded out the activities. This event was a first for our Glee Clu Club and one we hope will become a tradition. The Sophomore Gl ee Club used to be combined with the JuniorSenior Glee Club, but it is now a separate organization. It enables younger girls to gain singing experience and prepares them for the older group . The club presents its own concerts each year, which always turn out to be very successful endeavors.

Yearbook Moderator Sister Mary Gerard discusses with artists, Marna Baker, and Barbara Kellams and Editor Marilyn Eck some yearbook art designs.

The Yearbook

Typist Arlene Stafford works to the dictation of Andrea Wood.

Julienne I S yearbook, MONOGRAM, is the story of the year in pictures . Two girls are sent to Detroit where they learn the rules and techniques of producing a good yearbo.o k. The "working dummy" is planned at this time. When school reopens in the fall, the subscription drive begins and is followed by the ad drive. Numerous pictures are taken and, under the guidance of their adviser, the staff members start work on the organization of the book. Lay-out, art work , body copy, and cut lines are just some of the many points to be considered. As the completion of the yearbook comes into sight, all breathe a sigh of relief and wait eagerly for the arriv al of the finished product from the publisher. It begins its existence during the summer.

Meeting the first deadline is the preoccupation of these yearbook staff-members: Jill Seitz (advertising manager), Sue Rohe (photographer), Dona Griffith (typist) and Mary Frances Allen (assistant photographer).

Today the Class of '62 joins a distinguished group

How will you use

of graduates throughout the nation. Your most priceless graduation gift is TIME.

You can look forward to approximately 100,000 working hours before you reach retirement age.

YOUR 100,000 HOURS? Actually, 100,000 hours is not a great deal of time. You cannot afford to make many false starts. You should do some hard thinking right now, decide what you want to do in life, and then plan how to achieve your goal. No matter what field you choose .. . business or medicine, electronics or finance, engineering or the social sciences . . . fantastic changes are being made. Trained minds are needed more than ever before to maintain this progress and make the World of Tomorrow a better place in which to live. How you invest your 100,000 working hours will be the answer to how successful you become in whatever field of endeavor you select for your life's work.
