Kavanaugh Named Coach Of The Year The 1979 baseball season was a very successful one, though if you looked at our win-loss record, it wouldn't seem like it. At 12-13 we accomplished more than any other baseball team at C-J in 5 years. Going into the tournament we were seeded number 2 behind last year's state-runner up, Oakwood. After beating Eaton and Dixie in the sectionals, we played Oakwood in the sectional finals and romped them by a score of 7-4. We lost in the district finals to a strong-hitting team of Edgewood, by a score of 8-4. With one starter coming back from last year and a no-name pitching staff, we surprised many people by going as far as we did. Much of our success was contributed to our enthusiastic and talented underclassmen, led by three starting sophomores. We had a .295 team batting average which gave every opposition trouble as we were never shut-out. The season was topped off with our coach, Kevin Kavanaugh, receiving coach of the year honors in AA Competition. Tim Plaspohl
