Help with your career The Cass Undergraduate Placement Office A placement year is a great opportunity for you to develop workplace skills and graduate with one year’s professional work experience, helping you to stand out from the crowd. The dedicated Placements team are here to support second year Cass undergraduate students who are interested in a work placement and/or summer internship. They can help with: • A lerting you of placement and summer internship opportunities and deadlines through email or our online resources • Offering one-to-one advice and support, including help with your CV, cover letters and applications • Delivering placement or internship preparation briefing sessions • Matching you with previous placement students for advice and to help you prepare for an interview • Monitoring you throughout your time on placement.

Cass pop-up CV checks Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from Monday 23rd September to Friday 29th November 2019, 12:00 – 14:00 Pop up to the Cass student lounge for a quick five-minute CV check. This is a great opportunity for you to pick up practical tips as well as review the content and structure of your CV. The Civil Service Fast Stream: Preparing for recruitment tests Wednesday 9th October 2019, 18:00 – 19:30 Graduates from the Civil Service Fast Stream will give an introduction to the programme and their experience of it. They will talk you through the application process and provide advice on preparing for each stage, especially the recruitment tests and where they use them during the recruitment process. Insights schemes or spring weeks are programmes run by big organisations specifically for first year students. Discover what is involved, how to find them and get tips for applying. By the end of the session you will: • Be better able to explore spring weeks, insight programmes and open days • Discuss some of the alternative ways of developing your skills and gaining experience • Evaluate a CV to help with your applications.

Situational judgement tests can be tricky and frustrating. Come along to this workshop to practice these tests and discuss the results with your peers and a careers consultant. By the end of the session you will be able to: • Practice situational judgement tests under timed conditions • Discuss the answers in order to help you improve in your future tests.

Cass undergraduate careers club – Peer support with banking, finance and consultancy applications Wednesday 16th October 2019, 18:00 – 20:00 This session is for Cass undergraduate students hoping to make applications to the finance or consultancy sectors. Find out from other Cass students how to get a head start and what preparation to do to gain entry into this competitive sector. A career in foreign exchange Monday 21st October 2019, 18:00 – 20:00 This session provides an introduction to the foreign exchange (FX) industry, enabling attendees to gain an understanding of different FX transactions and the market participants involved. You will learn financial vocabulary relating to FX concepts that will be useful to understand prior to an interview. By attending the event you will: • Learn about FX transactions and its role in the financial markets • Gain an understanding of the roles available in the FX industry and the skills required to succeed • Understand commercial awareness and how to use it during interviews. Developing a behavioural scoring model for customers and estimating the probability of default Thursday 24th October 2019, 18:00 – 20:00 This workshop is for any student interested in the application of mathematical modelling in financial institutions. We will explore the use of rating models across different areas of financial institutions and the different steps involved in the development of a behavioural scoring model, followed by a practical case study. Learning outcomes: • How to develop a behavioural scoring model • Assess the performance of a behavioural scoring model • Use the output of the behavioural scoring model to estimate the probability of default and how to calibrate the model. A career in corporate B2B sales Monday 28th October 2019, 18:00 – 20:00 Led by Carl Latham, Head of Account Management at GlobalData, this session will cover the skills and attitudes needed to succeed, as well as progression and financial rewards. Carl will cover what employers are looking for, tips for highlighting key points on your CV as well as interview advice. He will also discuss how public speaking has helped advance his career. All

Pivotal software Industry Insight Tuesday 29th October 2019, 08:45 – 12:30 With offices around the world, Pivotal is a software development company working across industries including automotive, financial services, industrial, media, retail, government, technology and telecommunications. Pivotal is looking for ten City students to join them for this Industry Insight, which will be open to all Cass and SMCSE final year and postgraduate students. Psychometric tests for beginners Wednesday 30th October 2019, 13:00 – 14:00 Psychometric tests are a key part of the recruitment process with many larger employers. This session will cover why and how employers use tests, the types of tests you may encounter and how to prepare for them. By the end of the session you will be better able to: • Discuss types of tests and why employers use them • Practice some sample questions under timed conditions • Consider how best to prepare for psychometric tests including key resources available. Cass UG Placements Fair Wednesday 30th October 2019, 13:30 – 15:30 This Fair offers a opportunity for students to meet with a range of companies who offer placement and summer internship roles and speak with HR representatives from top companies. You will have the chance to speak with peers who are currently on placement with these industries and gain an in-depth understanding of their responsibilities and personal experiences. ICAEW business challenge Thursday 31st October 2019, 18:00 – 20:00 The ICAEW business game is designed to give students an insight into the role of an ICAEW Chartered Accountant as well as helping you develop key employability skills such as decision making, problem solving and professionalism. A typical business challenge will involve in-depth analysis of an organisation followed by exercises to recommend and advise on future business strategies. The session will also give an insight into the tasks you will be set during your ACA training agreement. All

Video interview workshop for insights, internships and placements Wednesday 6th November 2019, 13:00 – 14:00 Video interviews are increasingly used by employers at the first stage of the recruitment process, but they can be daunting. Attend this session if you would like to learn more about the process. By the end of it you will be able to: • Explain why employers use video interviews and what one involves • Recall top tips for doing video interviews • Prepare for video interviews for insights, internships and placements. This interactive session is targeted towards students who have little knowledge of LinkedIn. The workshop will cover the main aspects of creating a brilliant LinkedIn profile. Round table session: Explore life as an actuary Thursday 14th November, 18:00 – 20:00 If you are an Actuarial Science student with an interest in the financial risk markets, this session is for you. The event will provide you with a platform to ask industry professionals a range of questions and establish what professional life is like within the financial risk sector. The types of questions you can ask are: • How did they get to where they are now? • What is a typical day in their current role? • What skills are needed to succeed in the industry? UG1

Cass assessment centre practice Wednesday 20th November 2019, 13:00 – 15:00 Participate in a group exercise which employers may use at assessment centres and improve your assessment centre performance. Please note participants must be able to stay for the whole session. Latecomers will not be admitted. STEM speed recruitment Thursday 21st November 2019, 18:00 – 20:00 Final year students and recent graduates from selected courses are invited to take part in a speed recruitment session with employers who have live opportunities. These events provide you with the great opportunity to: • Network with employers to hear more about their opportunities • Potentially be shortlisted by employers and launch your graduate job hunt • Get familiarised with the various roles that are available within organisations. PANEL EVENTS Our panel events are a fantastic opportunity to explore and discover the range of sectors, industries and opportunities available to you; from investment banking to engineering, government and international relations to creative industries. CAREERS FAIRS Fairs offer a unique opportunity for you to meet a vast range of organisations in just a couple of hours who offer graduate and postgraduate roles as well as first year, placement and internship opportunities. By attending, you will have the chance to network with representatives from a range of public and private sector organisations; including law firms, charities, barristers’ chambers, banks, tech and engineering firms and more, depending on the Fair you attend. You will also have the opportunity to hear from representatives about their responsibilities and personal experiences.

Accessibility hour The first hour (14:00 – 15:00) of the Fairs will be designated as an Accessibility Hour, allowing students who have access needs and requirements advance access to the employers available, in order to have uninterrupted and meaningful conversations about the roles on offer.
