Learning basketball, soccer, and baseball has never been more fun! These classes focus on dribbling, shot technique, passing and teamwork. Adjustable hoops and appropriatelysized basketballs are used to always provide just the right amount of challenge. Parent participation required for ages 2 - 3.5 years.

Rookies Age: 2 - 3.5

Enrich your child’s preschool experience with Mudskippers Outdoor Preschool. Our teachers work with students to give them imaginative and cooperative playtime in the woods, as well as nature themed stories, activities, songs and poems. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to leap right into outdoor learning and fun at local Shoreline parks! This class meets in every type of weather and is for students who are potty con dent. Please pack your child a nut free snack.

Crescendo Kids Piano by Move Over Mozart

Piano classes designed speci cally to meet your child’s development and learning styles. Classes include basic music theory, one-onone piano time, and games or activities all designed to teach and motivate your child to play their best on the piano keyboard. Soccer Tots

SoccerTots is our flagship program! These soccer-themed motor skill classes are very easy for youngsters to get into. Younger age groups focus on developing motor skills and self-con dence; older classes focus more on developing core soccer skills and personal focus, and introduce an element of light competition. Instructor-to-student ratio is kept small to maximize individual development, and above all else we promote fun, fun, fun!

VISUAL ARTS & ENRICHMENT

Home Alone

This three-hour home alone class will help your 9 to 13-year-old take the next step in independence while giving you peace of mind. Topics include: responsibilities when staying home alone, simple rst aid and abdominal thrusts for choking victims, how to navigate the online world, re safety and what to do around an aggressive dog. We’ll also discuss the truth behind abuse, abduction, and stranger danger. All participants will receive the Safe Kids 101 book.

Super Sitters

This program trains young people in basic babysitting and home safety skills. Students completing the class will be better prepared to provide a safer and more positive infant/ childcare experience. Course topics include -- Parent expectations, basic rst aid, home and re safety, Heimlich maneuver, telephone tips, toys and activities and infant care. Participants receive a Babysitting 101 handbook and a course completion certi cate. Bring a drink, mid-morning snack, and a sack lunch.

YOUTH Spring BREAK

Camp Shoreline Spring Break Camp

Spend your school break with us at Camp Shoreline. Each day is lled with playing indoor/outdoor games and getting creative with lots of arts, crafts, cooking and wild activities in our classroom. Camp is led by trained sta and meets at the Spartan Recreation Center. Please bring a water bottle, snacks and a sack lunch. Be sure to wear tennis shoes/sneakers and dress in layers for indoor and outdoor play.

CAMP SHORELINE OUTDOOR CAMP

Outdoor Camp (OC) is our Camp Shoreline Camp speci cally for 9-12 year olds. Camp takes place at 2 locations during the summer, Hamlin Park and Richmond Beach Saltwater Park. Outdoor Camp incorporates new and traditional camp activities sprinkled in with elements of environmental education. Campers spend their day in nature playing games and sports, making art, and participating in individual and team challenges. We now o er two Options when registering and paying for Summer Camps this year!

Option #1: Pay in full at the time of registration

• As in years past, you can register for camps online, in person or over the phone, if space is available, and pay 100% of the registration fee at the time of registration.

Option #2: Payment plan

• Pay the initial payment, a non-refundable fee, at the time of registration, $50 per child per camp. This payment will go towards the camp fee.

•The remaining amount is due before the start of camp. The due date depends on which weeks the registration is for.

• This will be an automatic withdrawal from a credit/ debit card, and will occur on a speci ed date.

• Unsuccessful payments will result in an automatic withdrawal from camp(s). Cardholder is responsible for keeping all credit/debit cards up to date.

Summer Camp Refund Policy

The following refund policy applies to ALL City of Shoreline Summer Camps including, but not limited to, Camp Shoreline, Sport Camps, Specialty Camps, Teen Camps and Specialized Recreation Camps.

Full Refunds

There are no longer any full refunds for camps. Any refunds that are issued will be subject to a $50 administrative fee for each weekly camper registration.

Refunds (minus administrative fee) Refunds for summer camps requested by the close of business 14 calendar days prior to, not including the rst day of camp, will be subject to an administrative fee of $50 for each weekly camper registration. After the fee is applied, the remaining balance will be refunded.

Example: Must withdraw from a Monday camp by 8:00pm on the Monday 2 weeks prior.

Transfers

A participant may request to transfer to another camp with available space. If transferring from one camp into another, the administration fee will be waived. The transfer must be made at the same time as the cancellation and for the same participant.

No refunds will be given if requested less than fourteen (14) calendar days, not including the rst day of camp.

2023 Recreation Program Scholarship Application

Scholarship Program Philosophy

The City of Shoreline wishes to make public recreation programsand eventsavailable to all youth and specialized recreation participants and recognizes that financial hardships may prevent the ability to pay for the feesfor these programs and events. To accommodate these special needs, the City of Shoreline is providing scholarship funds for 2023 programs and events

The 2023 Scholarship Fund provides each qualified participant with $225 for the 2023 calendar year, toward Recreation programsand events A Qualified Participant is a resident of the City of Shoreline and is either under 18 or a specialized recreation participant who is over 18.

*Scholarships are provided by the City of Shoreline on a first-come basis until all scholarship fundshave been allocated.Please note that funds may run out before you are able to use all your assigned scholarship dollars.

IMPORTANT:

If you wish to withdraw from a program or event after registering you must call the Recreation, Cultural, and Community Services office at (206) 801-2600. To receive credit against your scholarship dollars you must request a refund in accordance with our Refund Policy.

SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY - To receive a scholarship, you must show proof of one of the following for your family:

• A letter from Shoreline School District verifying eligibility for free or reduced lunch during the current school year

• A letter fromShoreline Head Start verifying your child’s current enrollment in Head Start

A letter from DSHS showing approval for services during the current year for a child in your family or an adult with disabilities. If you need a copy of your approval letter, call DSHS at 877.501.2233 and request a faxed copy to 206.801.2793.

NOTE: If you have other special circumstances or a reason for reduced income requiring additional support, please contact the Recreation, Cultural, and Community Services office. Special circumstances will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Tai Chi Sword & Hsiang Yi Sword

Learn Tai Chi Sword & Hsing Yi Sword. This class will have two levels with a prerequisites of any soft style Tai Chi form. Beginners’ sword will focus on Master Cheng Man – Ching’s abbreviated Yang style sword form. The second level sword will study a 2 person Hsing Yi Sword set. Students need one double edge sword of wood, rubber or collapsible design which can be found easily on-line. No metal swords allowed. The instructor, Mary Newbill, began studying Tai Chi with Dr. Shang-tung Hsu in 1972 and later studied with his master Tao, Ping Siang. She enjoys teaching sword to beginners as they develop momentum and sensitivity through gentle sword play. She is a licensed mental health counselor, a retired public school teacher and an energy worker.

Practicing Yoga is a great way to bring greater comfort and ease to the body and mind. Yoga increases exibility, joint mobility, strength, balance, and coordination while it calms the mind and improves breathing. Please join us for Gentle Yoga with Suzanne Pardee, a class suitable for beginning and intermediate students. Suzanne has been teaching Yoga since1999 and is certi ed in the Ananda Yoga style. Loving Kindness Stretching

These days it’s easy to have tension build up in our lives, hence, sometimes we notice that we carry anger to our work and home as well as other relationships. When this happens, the quality of life become low for us as well as others despite any luxury we are surrounded with Gentleness and Kindness are qualities to be cultivated which creates natural joy, serenity, and peacefulness within us. This class is aimed at helping to cultivate more of serene energy; the gentle stretching and guidance will provide a chance to replace old negative energy with loving-kind thoughts. After the introductions, you will be guided to perform gentle movements (based on traditional antient wisdom) to expel tension from the heart, body, and the mind. Explore the forests along the Sauk River taking in the sounds of nature and the sights of moss, mushrooms and large majestic trees. Hike is 6 miles with minimal elevation gain. Northwest Trek Wildlife Park

Northwest Trek features fully accessible paved walking trails and exhibits of bears, wolves, cougars and other NW wildlife. If NW Trek has their new electric tram operational, we’ll take a 50 min. tram ride along with our scheduled tour in the Shoreline van. All fees included. Lime Kiln Historical Hike

Lime Kiln Trail explores the historic railroad and mining site with relics from the past dotted along the mossy forest. Hike ends with a 20ft. tall limestone kiln that was operational from 1890 to the 1930’s. Trail is 7 miles roundtrip with about 625ft of elevation gain that is concentrated in one area on the return walk. This hike has hills and uneven surfaces including a rustic bridge to cross and other potential fallen trees to navigate around and over. Please bring a sack lunch to eat along the hike.

Whitewater Rafting –Upper Skagit River

North Cascades River Expeditions will lead us down eight miles of the Upper Skagit River. These class 3 and 4 rapids are part of the US Wild and Scenic River system rich with views of mountains, old growth forests and wildlife. This trip is suitable for adventurous beginners and veterans. Transportation, trip leader, river rafting, equipment and riverside lunch provided. Participants should wear a swimsuit or compression type clothing to be able to slip wetsuit over and bring a eece sweatshirt and windbreaker type of jacket to go over wetsuit. Gig Harbor Kayaking and Lunch

Paddle around the calm waters of Gig Harbor on a single or double kayak (SUP boards also available). We’ll enjoy 2 hours of kayaking and then eat lunch together at a local restaurant. Diablo Lake Boat Tour and Hike

The deep turquoise waters of Diablo Lake and towering mountain peaks make it one of the most beautiful sites in Washington State. We’ll board the Cascadian for a boat tour exploring the lake, its islands, waterfalls and the three dams part of the Skagit Hydroelectric Project. Filled with stories of early settlers and other historical accounts of the area. After our tour we’ll eat lunch and enjoy a short hike nearby. Transportation, trip leader and tour all included.

Moderately Easy – Some uneven ground with small elevation gains and hills.

Moderate – Some hills, more rugged terrain with elevation gains up to 1000 ft. Must be steady on feet and have decent level of tness.

Spartan Recreation Center Facility Rules

Thank you for keeping Spartan Recreation Center a Safe, fun, healthy place for all to enjoy.

•Youth under the age of 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult unless participating in a structured recreation youth program. Leaving minors unaccompanied in the facility, or area of the facility, may result in loss of privileges.

•Drop-in participants must sign in at the front desk.

•Appropriateattire is required at all times. This includes wearing a shirt, bottoms, and shoes.

•Communal spaces are open to all.

•Food/drinks are permitted in the lobby areas, Cascade and Olympic Rooms during speci c programming or rentals.

• Water in a sealed container is permitted in activity areas at all other times.

•You must be 16 years of age or older to use the weight room. 14-15 year olds must be accompanied by an adult. No one under the age of 14 years old allowed in the weight room.

•Please maintain control of your weights at all times. Weights may not be dropped or thrown.

•Cardio equipment limited to 30 minutes when others are waiting. Weights and other equipment may not be removed from the weight room.

•Wipe down equipment after use, return weights, bars, and benches to the appropriate areas and/or positions.

•No modi cations of equipment, such as stacking bodes, putting weight plates on pins on cable machines, etc.

•Chairs, cones or any other obstacles are not allowed on the gym oor during Drop-in gym time.

•Personal/Private training is not allowed.

•Hanging on the rim and nets is not permitted.

•Only authorized personnel are permitted to adjust court equipment.

•If you nd an item you believe to be lost, please return it to the Front Desk.

•Lost and Found items will be kept for 30 days, and then are donated or discarded.

LOCKER ROOM RULES

•Day use lockers available for storing personal belongings during visit to the facility, must provide your own lock.

•Belongings left in day use lockers will be cleaned out once the facility is closed for the evening.

•Locks that are cut will not be replaced.

•Locker rooms are to be used for personal grooming only (no laundry).

•Public shower use is available during business hours only.

•Please conserve water and limit showers to 20 minutes or less.

•Showers will close 1 hour prior to facility closing unless otherwise posted.

*In addition to the above cited rules all patrons and renters are expected to abide by the facility code of conduct and all permit agreements at all times while in the building.

Please follow the Code of Conduct and Facility Rules. Not doing so may result in dismissal from facility. All patrons must access the facility through o cial entrances. We are taking you out to the ball game! Come join us as we head out to Everett to cheer on the AquaSox. There is a “dropo appointment time” and a “pick-up window.” In order for our programs to continue to run smoothly, please only use these times when setting up a ride. Do note that Access can do either a “drop-o window” or a “drop-o appointment time.” Please only use the “drop-o appointment time.”

2. If a participant arrives too early, there is a chance that the facility will not be open and the program sta will not have arrived yet. A late fee may be issued to those who scheduled their ride after the times outlined in the brochure.

3. If for some reason a rider has consistent problems with program times, arriving too early or being picked up too late; their parent/guardian/sta will receive a phone call to discuss the situation.

SHORELINE PUBLIC ART

The Shoreline Tempestry Project is a collaborative e ort of several local ber artists to represent global warming data in visual form. Using data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the Shoreline Tempestry Project represents the years 1950 to 2022 in a tangible way. “Tempestry” combines the words “temperature” and “tapestry” to manifest local climate change records with vibrant colored knitted and crocheted pieces.

REGISTRATION

Refund Due to City Cancellation

Classes, camps, programs, trips or workshops/ special events cancelled by the City of Shoreline will result in a 100% refund of the program fee paid.

Cancellation Due to Weather

Refunds will not be issued for reasons of inclement weather, unless it results in the closure of the City facility hosting the event during the time of session or rental.

Class Fee First Day

Program fees may be refunded in full for any reason after the rst day of class, as long as the refund is requested prior to the second day of class. Aquatics programs requests must be made at the pool registration desk. All other recreation program requests must be made at the Spartan Recreation Center registration desk.

Class Fee Second Day

After the second day of class, but prior to the third, requested refunds will be pro-rated per the registration fee paid and the total number of classes.

Class Fee Third Day

Refunds will not be issued after the third day of class, unless an exception is granted. Requests for an exception to this policy must be submitted in writing prior to the fourth class and must be approved by the PRCS Director. The City has sole discretion to decide whether or not to grant this exception.

One Day/Workshops/Single Trips

Refunds may be issued if requested at least seven (7) calendar days prior to (not including) the event date.

Point of Sale Admissions

Refund requests must be made in writing and submitted to the registration desk prior to leaving the facility on the day of use. All requests are at the discretion of the PRCS Director.

Facility Rentals

No in-person facility rentals. Rentals can be made online or over the phone.

No in-person registrations at City Hall or Richmond Highlands Recreation Center. See page 2 for facility closure dates.

Non-Summer Camps & Summer Camps

Refunds for Summer Camps requested at least fourteen (14) calendar days prior to, but not including, the rst day of camp, will be subject to an administrative fee for each weekly camper registration. After the fee is applied, the remaining balance will be refunded. No refunds will be given if requested less than fourteen (14) calendar days prior to, but not including the rst day of camp. In lieu of a refund, a participant may request to transfer to another camp with available space. If transferring from one camp into another, the administration fee will be waived. The transfer must be made at the same time as the cancellation and for the same participants.

Facility Rental Cancellation

Rentals cancelled by the Renter fourteen (14) or more calendar days before the event will be refunded in full. Rentals cancelled by the Renter less than fourteen (14) days, but before 24 hours prior to the date/time of reservation, will be issued a 50% refund of the fees already collected or $50, whichever is less. Reservations cancelled 24 hours or less prior to the rental will not receive a refund. Any Security Deposit received associated with this rental will be 100% refunded.

Registration Associated with Special Events

All registrations associated with special events are non-refundable.

10 Punch Passes

All 10 punch passes expire on December 31st of the calendar year purchased with the remaining punches value refunded.

Wait-list Refunds

For those that are on a class waitlist that attend after the start date, requests for refund shall be treated as if the rst day of attendance is the rst day of class.

Pro-rated Refunds

Class fee refunds will not be pro-rated when registering after the start date except for those entering from the wait-list.

Refund due to Injury or Illness

Refunds will not be issued for injury or illness incurred outside of participation in the program unless it is diagnosed as a communicable disease by a medical professional.

Refund of Security Deposits

The City will inspect the permitted area in the Rental Use Permit after usage to determine if any damage occurred. If damage occurred, the City will assess a cost to x the damage and retain that amount from the Security Deposit. Any remainder of the Security Deposit will be refunded. Should no damage occur, 100% of Security Deposit will be refunded.

No Pro-Rated Membership Refunds

All memberships are for the speci ed amount of time from purchase date. Pro-rated refunds are not permitted for unused portion of purchased time.

Exemptions

Requested exemptions from this policy may be submitted in writing to the Recreation Superintendent and require approval by the PRCS Director.

Concession Permits

The City may, at its sole discretion, cancel a permit anytime due to an emergency, severe weather which merits either School District or City facility closures, power outage, or situations that may result in facility damage or personal injury as determined by the PRCS Director. In such instances, the permittee will be entitled to a 100% refund. All other permit refunds must be requested 30 days prior to scheduled use.

Park and Open Space Non-Exclusive Use Permit

Rentals canceled by the Renter fourteen (14) or more calendar days before the event will be refunded in full. Rentals canceled by the Renter less than fourteen (14) day, will not receive a refund. Any Security Deposit received associated with this rental will be 100% refunded.
