Lee’s Summit Illustrated • Summer/Fall 2022 3 Summer is ending, and fall is right around the corner. This past summer, we were as busy as ever, and all indications are this fall will be our busiest yet. Traditional activities like Itty Bitty football, adult softball, indoor swim lessons, youth volleyball, and art classes are offered. In addition, we have added several new programs this season, including a book club at Gamber Community Center, one-day travel programs, and open-play sports. For more information on fall programming, turn to pages 8 and 9. Although summer is quickly coming to an end, we still have some great events at the Legacy Park Amphitheater, including the Blues Fest (August 27), The M80’s (September 24), and Soulroot (October 7). And, if your four-legged friend needs some water time, don’t forget our Pooch Paddle at Summit Waves on August 24. Mark your calendar for November 18. That is the day Summit Ice will open for the season. Ice skating, pond hockey, learn-to-skate programs, and skating with Santa are just some of the activities you can enjoy on the frozen pond. Finally, I would like to highlight some of our park projects. Velie Park has received a complete renovation and recently opened for your enjoyment. The park has new playgrounds, a gazebo, and outdoor fitness equipment. Currently, our staff is working on renovations to Pleasant Lea Park, and, once completed, we will begin renovations to Lower Banner Park and Williams Grant Park. If you would like to learn more about these projects, please visit our website, click on the “Get Involved” tab and scroll down to Capital Projects. This is a new feature we have added to our website, and hopefully, you will find it informative. Fall is a wonderful time of the year, and, in my opinion, the best way to enjoy the season is through LSPR. I look forward to seeing you in the coming months. your parks,
