ARTS The Wizard of Oz Audition Workshop

Wednesday and Thursday, August 14 and 15 Ages 6 to 13: 4 to 6 p.m. Ages 14 and older: 6 to 8 p.m. $100 for GCT and MJCC members, $125 for non-members Location: Memphis Jewish Community Center, 6560 Poplar Avenue Join GCT for a preparatory workshop with the director and music director of the upcoming holiday production of The Wizard of Oz. Learn how to have a successful (and enjoyable) musical theatre audition and help prepare material from the show. Both sessions will culminate in a mock audition to provide feedback from the director. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe Tour

Germantown Chorus

The Germantown Chorus is welcoming new singers for the upcoming season. Rehearsals begin Monday, August 12, 7 to 9 p.m., at St. Georges Episcopal Church, 2425 S. Germantown Road. Germantown Festival Concert

Saturday, September 7, noon C.O. Franklin Park and Horse Show Grounds Enjoy a free concert at noon on the Germantown Festival outdoor stage. Rain or shine, the concert goes on. Saturday, October 19, 2013 St. George’s Episcopal Church This annual music and auction extravaganza features live and silent auctions, a catered buffet dinner, beverages, desserts and entertainment by the Chorus. Germantown Symphony Orchestra

The Germantown Symphony Orchestra will kick off its 38th season with Pops in the Park in Germantown on September 14 under the baton of Music Director Dr. Ronald Vernon. This selfgoverned, all-volunteer organization now boasts a membership of sixty-five musicians - a diverse group including students, teachers, professional musicians, professionals in other fields and those in retirement - who share their love of fine music arts advocacy. The GSO is committed to promoting young artists and serving the community in many ways. GSO receives generous funding from the Germantown Arts Alliance. Young Artists Concerto Concert

Saturday, November 2, 8 p.m. Tickets: $12 Adults, $8 seniors, $5 students (plus handling fee) Location: GPAC, Duncan-Williams Performance Hall Winners of GSO’s 2013 Concerto Competition take to the stage to each give an incredible performance of a movement of a major work with the GSO. Featured are violinists Alana Olswing and Peyton Cook, pianist Liam Nutt and flutist Sara Kang. Flying Dutchman Overture and ballet music from Macbeth are on the program in celebration of the 200 year anniversaries of both Wagner and Verdi. Handel’s Overture to Agrippina will also be performed.
