Anime Club Movie Night
Mondays, September 30, October 28, November 25 and December 16, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Age: 12 to 18 years Fans of anime and mange are invited to watch movies, discuss books and try Japanese treats. October 28 will be the annual costume contest.
How to Write a Great College Application Essay
Tuesday, October 22, 7 p.m. Age: 12 years and older This one hour seminar presented by the Kaplan Test Prep organization is designed to highlight what college admissions officers want to see in an essay. Pre-registration is required and begins October 15.
ACT Practice Test
Saturday, November 23, 1 to 4:30 p.m. Age: 12 years and older Take a free ACT so you’ll know what to expect on Test Day. Participants will receive a comprehensive analysis of their performance, detailing individual strengths and weaknesses. Presented by Kaplan Test Prep. Pre-registration is required and begins November 16.
Prize for Teens
Monday, December 9, 7 p.m. Age: 12 to 18 years Move beyond static PowerPoint presentations with Prize, the web-based presentation builder. Create presentations that move, zoom and fly. Experience using a mouse and keyboard and navigating the internet are required.
GERMANTOWN REGIONAL HISTORY AND GENEALOGY CENTER The mission of the Germantown Regional History and Genealogy Center (GRHGC) is to preserve and share across generations the wisdom, culture and history of the South. The Center, at 7779 Poplar Pike, serves as a repository and research center for historic materials related to history and genealogy. The GRHGC has more than 15,000 reference materials in its collection. The Tennessee Genealogical Society is also located in the Center. Information about the Society is available at tngs.org.
Hours
Mondays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Center will be closed September 3 and 8, October 20, November 22 and December 25. Programs are free and open to the public, but space may be limited. Pre-registration is required, unless otherwise noted, and begins three weeks prior to the event. Call 757-8480 for information.
TNGS Quarterly Meetings
Saturdays, 10:30 a.m. September 21 - Genealogist Therese Fisher will present “Wanted – Dead or Alive.” Therese Fisher is the principal genealogist in Fisher Associates and is an accredited genealogist by the International Commission for the Accreditation of Professional Genealogists. October 19 - Tina Sansone will present on “Court Records.” No pre-registration required.
Let’s Discuss It
Saturdays, September 28, October 26 and December 7, 10 a.m. Join a genealogy/computer discussion group led by Debbie Atchley. Bring a topic of interest, or just soak up the knowledge from the round table. P. Z. Horton will also answer questions about Family Tree Maker software and will demonstrate advanced techniques. No pre-registration required.
