CittĂ Sostenibile 2013: Your city Within Ecomondo, a workshop of excellent technologies and bio materials will be set up in a large area dedicated to the Sustainable City. Sustainable City 2013 is a city under construction with buildings made of natural materials and an increasingly widespread use of sustainable technologies focusing on the development of cities. A predominant feature of this edition is water, symbolised by a long river which will connect all the exhibiting companies. Sustainability is increasingly being considered according to its three facets: environmental, social and economic. The main focus for 2013 will be the reduction of public expenditure aimed at improving efficiency in energy performance levels, in buildings, in vehicles, in urban planning, in the entire waste management chain, and in the technological integrations tied to ITC. The integration of communication in the urban system will be crucial, as will the simplification of the information flow, which aims to reduce costs for citizens and improve services. .Sustainability is increasingly being considered according to an environmental, social and economic point of view. The reduction of public expenditure aims to improve efficiency in energy performance levels, in buildings, in vehicles, in town planning, in the waste management chain, and in the technological integrations tied to ITC. The integration of communication in the urban system is more and more crucial. Less red tape should lead to lower costs for the public.

Sustainable Cities 2013 PROJECT DESCRIPTION PROJECT NAME AMBIENTIAMOCI ABSTRACT The AMBIENTIAMOCI! project is co-financed by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers Department of Children and Youth Affairs, and aims to run an Environmental Awareness Campaign intended for school children aged 11 to 19, to encourage them to adopt more ecofriendly behaviour and think about how they can protect the environment. As well as raising awareness about sustainable development, the targeted outcome is to encourage young people to play their part in preserving the environment for future generations, in their respective areas of action and responsibility. The educational awareness campaign will take shape primarily through a number of meetings with middle- and high-school pupils across Italy. The young people attending will be introduced to issues like the exploitation and scarcity of energy resources, the need to move to renewable energy sources, the importance of a more mindful approach to energy saving, the efficient use of energy, separated waste collection and waste recycling. Sustainable Cities 2013 PROJECT DESCRIPTION PROJECT NAME SMARTNESS IN WASTE MANAGEMENT – SMART WASTE ABSTRACT Smart Waste (SW) is a governance tool for local authorities and professionals working in the sector. It meets the growing need for transparency, knowledge and measurable indicators in the search for the best urban waste management strategies. The development and application of new technologies to monitor and reduce the environmental impact of waste management add to the degree of “smartness”: the Smartness in Waste Management - Smart Waste” project aims to combine the eco-sustainability objectives of Smart Cities with those of the EU Waste Directive 2008/98/EC, transposed in Italy in Legislative Decree No. 152/06 in order to contribute to improving the quality of life in local towns and villages. The approach championed in the Smart Waste project looks at waste life cycle assessment (using LCA methodology) whereby data is collected at the local level and processed in an IT decision support system with web interface. The main objectives of the project are: • to create a “Decision Support-System” (DSS) for local authorities with client decision-making client applications (web portals); • to develop mobile apps for the local population to facilitate communication and data collection; • to implement and expand use of DSS and applications at the national level; The SW application provides a scientific assessment of the overall impact of urban waste management at the local level. It generates a set of indicators and parameters that help local authorities calculate the total environmental cost of urban waste management - both current and future, with additional graphic support. Technical and economic valuations can then be made and new recycling objectives set. PHOTO GALLERY

Sustainable Cities 2013 PROJECT DESCRIPTION PROJECT NAME “COOPERATIVE CREDIT AND THE GREEN ECONOMY: RELATIONS WITH THE LOCAL AREA” ABSTRACT The green economy is very closely linked to the nature of the territory it relates to. Banche Credito Cooperativo (BCC) are local banks and therefore directly interested in the development of an economy based on the health of its shareholders and customers. Health in this context is used to mean sustainable growth and sustainable use of local resources. Investing in the green economy means embracing growth across a broad economic and social spectrum and promoting the health of present and future generations at each point on this continuum. The cooperative banking world provides financial services to meet real requests and requirements. Each BCC bank has a direct line of communication with its shareholders and customers, whom it manages independently. Based on these principles, the Cooperative Credit System in Emilia Romagna will be attending the Ecomondo 2013 international expo with the people and activities listed below. The regional Cooperative Credit Movement will be bringing to the international event the full range of services and opportunities offered by BBC banks in Emilia Romagna, by BIT and by Iccrea Banca Impresa. Sustainable Cities 2013 PROJECT DESCRIPTION PROJECT NAME GREEN ROAD ABSTRACT A trip along the Green Road, in the area in which the Colline Joniche local action group operates in Puglia, has a quaint, old-fashioned feel in which peace, nature and relaxation are the predominant experiences. The Green Road unwinds through the well-known land of ravines and farmhouses, dipping down towards the coast and finishing in the crystal-clear Ionian Sea by the seaside resort of Pulsano. The Green Road project aims to give the local area a boost by creating meeting places, opportunities for inclusion, internationalisation, innovation and sustainability. The principles underlying the two works: the Green Road Manual, full of useful information for professionals working in the tourist industry looking to implement green strategies, and the Green Road Kit, a catalogue listing the attractions in our area, put together for tourists interested in Nature, Food&Wine and Farms. Built around the principles of the Green Econonmy and Sustainable and Responsible Tourism, the kit suggests nature, food&wine and cultural tours through farms and craft workshops, historical town centres and rocky settlements, caves and woods, local eating houses and festivals, Primitivo Wine and extra virgin olive oil, on a journey through deep ravines and alongsweeping beaches. The “GREEN ROAD” project is currently being rolled out in the Italian region of Basilicata too by the ENI Enrico MATTEI foundation. Prepared by: GAL COLLINE JONICHE s.c.a.r.l. Sustainable Cities 2013 PROJECT DESCRIPTION PROJECT NAME SUSTAINABLE CITY GARDEN ABSTRACT The project concerns the regeneration of an area around the Massafra waste management plant in Puglia. The idea is to create a learning park illustrating the waste cycle in which rubbish is seen as a “discovery”. It all started from the fact that CISA SpA has been generating energy from waste for years (previously RDF/SSF and biogas), as well as producing biodiesel and managing phytodepuration of leachate from disused landfills. POTENTIAL DISCOVERY AREAS IN THE PARK: • THE HISTORY OF WASTE-DISCOVERY on panels around the park. • GREEN HI-TECH, solar-power benches and wi-fi hotspot used as meeting points, charging points for electric vehicles, street lighting powered by organic waste, etc. • MATERIAL RECYCLING WORKSHOP, held in an area which is partially underground. • VIDEO SECTION REVEALING HOW WASTE IS TRANSFORMED, held in an area which is partially underground.

• THE LIFE CYCLE AND THE REGENERATION CYCLE OF EVERYTHING WE USE AND THEN REUSE AS SOMETHING ELSE The park and natural environment help reduce CO2 in the air. The emissions produced by the waste-disposal plants (vehicles, transformation process, etc.) can be offset through the planting of trees. The carbon footprint and life cycle assessment (LCA) can be explained on the information panels accompanying visitors around the park.

Sustainable Cities 2013 PROJECT DESCRIPTION PROJECT NAME ABSTRACT Use of recycled aggregates in the A4 Motorway Expansion project to add a third lane - section Quarto d’Altino (progr. Km 10+950) – San Donà di Piave (progr. Km 29+500). Cosmo Ambiente srl, a leader in the recovery of non-hazardous special waste, has 2 plants with avant garde machinery for special waste recovery and hazardous waste storage. The activities are carried out in an area of 60,000 m2 (according to ISO quality, environment and safety systems) to obtain raw and secondary raw materials. The recovered materials are used in infrastructures as inert materials for road beds (recycled aggregates for road superstructures - E.CO.CEM 1, 2 and 3 and E.CO.STAB with physicalmechanical properties similar to quarry raw materials). The project is hence based on use of ecocompatible material to construct the bed and foundation in

order to significantly reduce stress on the sub-base layers. This solution complies with the principles of functionality, durability, maintainability, safety and respect for the environment. Calculation of the carbon footprint (CF) of the natural biomass cogeneration plant for the production of electrical energy Cosmo Ambiente srl is also active in the production of energy from renewable sources: 1 photovoltaic plant and 1 natural biomass plant provide the electrical/thermal energy necessary for its activities. The decision to evaluate the CF deriving from the biomass plant has two objectives: assess aspects and phases of the activity most relevant for greenhouse gas emission; quantify the benefits of using renewable sources for energy production.

Sustainable Cities 2013 PROJECT DESCRIPTION PROJECT NAME RUBBLE BY-PRODUCTS (NOT WASTE) AND COLOURED ASPHALTS ABSTRACT Rubble by-products (not waste) are one of the most important objectives achieved from research and development of the Corporate Quality, Safety & Environment System of Pesaresi Giuseppe S.p.A. In the building/construction sector the word “rubble” means all the material resulting from demolition operations sometimes necessary for reconstruction of a building rather than for reconstruction of a damaged road: it used to be called waste, but today we say by-products (not waste)! Coloured Asphalts are the most evocative contemporary technological innovation... and they’re going to go a long way! Where ordinary black asphalt absorbs all the colour of sunlight, coloured asphalt returns coloured energy to the environment: Pompeian reds, night blue, yellow ochre and greens... their brilliant colours give your living space the aesthetics you want and to all those you love and to whom you are devoted your message of peace and harmony.

Sustainable Cities 2013 PROJECT DESCRIPTION PROJECT NAME EARTH FOR ARCHITECTURE ABSTRACT Raw earth is one of the most ancient building materials. Retracing its adventure in architecture means retracing the history of humanity. It is a compound of clay and natural inert materials, simply left to dry in the air without needing firing. The local earth used to be mixed with water gave shape to entire settlements - constructed in rammed earth, adobe bricks, earth and wood structures, blocks of compressed earth - naturally healthy and blending in with the surroundings. For Matteo Brioni, earth is the experience of four generations born in a kiln in the fields of Gonzaga. Matteo Brioni’s raw earth is selected and mixed using a process that requires experience in the building sector and a careful eye on the uniqueness of each territory. The result is healthy, pure and natural products, pleasant to the touch, and able to sinuously adapt to any shape improving the inner microclimate: contemporary surfaces made with traditional techniques. Like in the olden days, all you need to do is add water to make bricks, footings and fillers, plasters and finishes, giving shape to spaces and surfaces of timeless materiality and beauty. The Matteo Brioni products are 100% recyclable.

Sustainable Cities 2013 PROJECT DESCRIPTION PROJECT NAME APAS – AIR POLLUTION ABATEMENT SYSTEMS ABSTRACT Is TECH is an applied technological innovation company, set up in July 2010 by a group of managers and scientists with twenty years’ management experience in a variety of advanced research fields. It coordinates and develops the activities of Special Purpose Vehicles (business units and project companies) to develop and implement special technological innovations based on an integrated operating supply chain and “cradle to grave” approach. Specifically, Is TECH has introduced a smart, multifunctional APA platform (air pollution abatement). The innovative technological solution has already obtained widespread acclaim and won many awards both in Italy and internationally (including Italia degli Innovatori 2011 - 12, Brevetti+ Italian Ministry for Economic Development and Invitalia Eco - Innovation Forum - Prague 2013, Mission for Green Growth to China - Beijing 2013, Expo Green - Los Angeles 2013). APA is a smart, integrated and multifunctional platform which purifies the air inhaled in all indoor and outdoor environments in which there is a high concentration of fine dust particles and other pollutants which are harmful to human health and the environment. The technological solution can run as a standalone operation or be incorporated into furnishings or infrastructure (industrial or urban), custom built to the specific requirements of the place of use. This makes for more efficient abatement of pollutants that is also closely linked to the real needs of the area to be protected. The innovative system comes with a powerful ICT structure of sensors, software and communication systems, which themselves constitute a standalone market product allowing for use of high-tech, innovative services in cities of the future. This allows the system to be managed from a remote location. Environmental parameters can be measured and validated. APA can reduce and remove particulate (PM>0.1) in water with a high degree of efficiency, even in strong air flows. With the same efficiency, it can also remove pollen, spores, heavy metals and other harmful pollutants. It is a modular, scalable technological solution which requires little maintenance and does not generate special waste since it is based on natural processes and does not use filters of any kind. It is extremely efficient in capturing and eliminating air pollutants with limited power draw (5 to 10 times less than similar products currently available). APA therefore has a very low and affordable Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) making it an outstandingly high-performing technological solution. It can be used to rethink and redesign urban areas and manufacturing/work environments to make them truly sustainable and more importantly, people friendly. Sustainable Cities 2013 PROJECT DESCRIPTION PROJECT NAME OUTREACH PROJECT: SYSTEMS TO DIGITIZE NOTIFICATIONS ABSTRACT ODORTEL速 is a phone-based odour pollution communication/reception system to be used to report the perception of sensitive receptors; in addition, by SMS request, appropriately located sampling systems throughout the territory can be activated so that sources can be identified fairly accurately and the case described. ODORTEL速 is made possible through the contributions of a group of people who submit their perceptions and the intensity of olfactory harassment in real time by contacting a phone line. The data provided in these calls is added to a database, creating a real-time map of odours, which can be continually updated as more notifications are received. The graphic interface allows you to query the database to retrieve information on dates, times and the number of alerts received, in either list or map form. Statistical analysis of this data generates statistical indicators which are useful in the study of noise pollution events and evaluation of the performance of environmental actions. PHOTO GALLERY

Sustainable Cities 2013 PROJECT DESCRIPTION PROJECT NAME NISSAN LEAF TO HOME THE MOST SOLD 100% ELECTRIC VEHICLE IN THE WORLD POWERS YOUR HOUSE Video and graphics http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KS6O_cEbnqc ABSTRACT Nissan is the world leader in sustainable mobility thanks to LEAF and the technologies designed and produced in-house for environmental sustainability. Nissan has in fact developed an integrated system between vehicles, people and the environment called “LEAF to Home (L2H)” which allows two-way vehicle interaction with the electricity grid. The electric vehicles are a precious source of portable electrical energy in everyday life and in critical situations, such as blackouts, earthquakes and hurricanes. During a blackout or a brownout, LEAF and the “LH2” system deal with the emergency tapping into the energy contained in the car batteries. In normal conditions, on the other hand, “LH2” can stabilise the electricity grid and make up for the energy requirements by recharging the EVs with the current generated during the night (when demand is lower) or accumulated by means of solar panels and conveying it to homes during the day (when demand is the highest).
