ANGELO TANTARO There comes the Summer solstice, the longest day of the year and the beginning of the astronomical Summer. And here comes the Sardinia Film Festival which, with all its variants, has always represented a constant and passionate contribution to culture for the last ten years. The Sardinia Film Festival will never be a cold type of entertainment, but it will always be an opportunity to enjoy movies which can involve the audience and supply criteria to understand our reality. This is our responsibility; and we want to take the opportunity to open the festival on the longest day of the year, because this represents well our commitment to fight against the darkness of this rather confused World.

Ecco tornare con il solstizio d'estate, il giorno più lungo dell'anno e l'inizio dell'estate astronomica, il Sardinia Film Festival, pur con tutte le varianti nel corso dei 10 anni di vita, ma sempre con il costante e passionale contributo alla cultura. Il Sardinia Film Festival non sarà mai una meccanica rappresentazione di attrattive ma, visione di opere capaci di coinvolgere e fornire gli strumenti di orientamento per interpretare il nostro quotidiano. Questa é la nostra responsabilità, cogliere l’opportunità di aprire con il giorno più lungo contro l’oscurità di questo mondo un po’ confuso.

IL PRESIDENTE DEL CONSIGLIO REGIONALE DELLA SARDEGNA

GIANGRANCO GANAU Il Sardinia Film Festival festeggia quest’anno i suoi dieci anni di attività. Con ben 900 film iscritti al concorso, la manifestazione organizzata dal Cineclub Sassari, si conferma una vetrina importante per autori di tutto il mondo. Il festival sardo, dedicato al cinema d’autore rappresenta per la Sardegna una risorsa importante, un’occasione unica per far conoscere la nostra isola nel mondo grazie alla scelta degli organizzatori di fare rete con altri festival europei. Non a caso per celebrare l’importante anniversario, Sassari ospiterà per al prima volta un meeting di giovani film-makers europei che consentirà di mettere a confronto finanziatori, distributori e registi, sardi e non, che avranno la possibilità di far conoscere il proprio lavoro. Il SFF ha dalla sua parte una macchina organizzativa d’eccellenza proiettata verso nuove e sempre più proficue collaborazioni esterne che consentono di condividere la propria esperienza anche oltre i confini della città che da anni ospita il festival, quest’anno con le comunità di Bosa e Villanova Monteleone, consolidando il rapporto con gli storici partner come l’Accademia di Belle Arti e l’Università, ampliando il proprio raggio d’azione costruendo una cultura del cinema grazie all’organizzazione di laboratori per bambini. Rivolgo agli organizzatori un sentito ringraziamento per l’impegno e la professionalità dimostrati e i miei migliori auguri per una buona riuscita della manifestazione.

The Sardinia Film Festival celebrates ten years of activity this year. The 900 films which have been submitted for this event organized by Cineclub Sassari confirm that this is an important showcase for authors from all over the World. This Sardinian Festival, dedicated to art films, represents an important resource for Sardinia and it is a unique occasion to promote our Island in the World thanks to the partnerships that the organizers have created with different European festivals. It is not by chance that, to celebrate this important anniversary, Sassari is going to host for the first time a meeting of European young filmmakers; this meeting will create an opportunity for debate and exchange of ideas for sponsors, distributors and directors from Sardinia and from outside Sardinia and will give them a good chance to promote their work. The SFF is supported by an excellent team of people, all willing to create new and more and more fruitful partnerships outside Sardinia; this will allow the festival to share its own experience beyond the borders of our Island. This year the collaboration with partners such as the University of Sassari and the “Accademia di Belle Arti” is confirmed and some sections of the festival will also take place in Villanova Monteleone and in Bosa. Also, an important aspect for the growth of a culture of filmmaking is the organization of workshops for children. A sincere thank you goes to the organizers for their commitment and professionalism, with the best wishes for a successful event. 8

L' ASSESSORA REGIONALE DELLA PUBBLICA ISTRUZIONE, BENI CULTURALI, INFORMAZIONE, SPETTACOLO E SPORT CLAUDIA FIRINO Different and often unusual perspectives, a multiplicity of points of view which has now been given exposure on a big screen. The credit for this goes with no doubt to the Sardinia Film Festival and to all those people of good will that have been working for this event with passion for ten years, contributing to make it a reference point for a more and more numerous audience. Exchange of ideas and debate between different artistic expressions, engagement of independent and young filmmakers from all over the World, even with the help of the University of Sassari and the support of different territories in Sardinia; this is an added value that coincides with our idea of nurturing our cultural resources to endorse the development of people and community. For these reasons we are happy to walk through this path next to Cineclub Sassari, supporting and encouraging the Sardinia Film Festival and the endorsement of independent filmmaking. Prospettive differenti e spesso inusuali, una pluralità di sguardi altri che finalmente trova visibilità sul grande schermo. È un merito incontestabile del Sardinia Film Festival e di coloro che, per passione e buona volontà, muovono le fila di questo appuntamento che negli anni è diventato un riferimento per un pubblico sempre più numeroso. Scambio e confronto fra diverse espressioni artistiche, coinvolgimento di autori indipendenti e giovani film-makers di tutto il mondo, anche grazie alla collaborazione con l’Università e diversi territori della Sardegna, è un valore aggiunto che coincide con la nostra idea di valorizzazione delle risorse culturali per lo sviluppo delle persone e delle collettività. Per questo siamo lieti di affiancarci in questo tratto di strada al Cineclub di Sassari, sostenendo e incoraggiando il Sardinia Film Festival e la promozione della cinematografia indipendente. IL SINDACO DI SASSARI

NICOLA SANNA Ten successful years that prove how important filmmaking is for Sassari. Filmmaking has helped the Sardinia Film Festival to grow and the Sardinia Film Festival has always encouraged young people to the profession of filmmaking. We think that the movie industry is a business we should believe in and from which the young generations can get inspired for a better personal growth. It is also for this reason that this year, with the support of Fondazione Banco di Sardegna, we have decided to create the project “Sassari città del cinema”, which means to endorse, enjoy and create the products of the art of filmmaking. The idea of the organizers to dedicate the award for young directors to Federico Lubino, a director from Sassari who passed away in 2012 at the age of 25, has been well thought. For 7 days Sassari will become a big cinema, capable of screening 43 international movies and films selected from 4 European film festivals. Once again we appreciate the support coming from the rest of Sardinia, with two of the venues being Villanova Monteleone and Bosa, and we also appreciate the connection with current events and important subjects such as sustainable development and development of local resources, all fundamental even for Expo 2015. Ladies and gentlemen, enjoy the festival.

Dieci anni di successi che dimostrano come il cinema abbia per Sassari un ruolo rilevante. Un'attività che ha fatto crescere e maturare il Sardinia film festival che ha svolto anche un ruolo di incoraggiamento per i giovani alla professione cinematografica. Crediamo che anche questo sia un settore sul quale puntare e dal quale le giovani generazioni possano trarre spunto per una loro crescita. È anche per questo motivo che quest'anno, in collaborazione con la Fondazione Banco di Sardegna, abbiamo pensato al progetto “Sassari città del cinema” che punta alla valorizzazione, fruizione e realizzazione dell'arte cinematografica in città e nel territorio. Bene hanno fatto gli organizzatori a dedicare il premio riservato ai giovani esordienti a Federico Lubino, regista sassarese scomparso nel 2012 a 25 anni. Per 7 giorni Sassari diventa una grande sala cinematografica, in grado di proporre 43 pellicole internazionali e cortometraggi selezionati da 4 festival europei del cinema. Apprezziamo ancora la collaborazione con il territorio, le proiezioni a Villanova Monteleone e Bosa e il collegamento con argomenti di stretta attualità, sviluppo sostenibile e valorizzazione delle risorse, al centro dell'Expo 2015. L'ASSESSORA ALLE POLITICHE SVILUPPO LOCALE, PROGRAMMAZIONE, CULTURA E TURISMO COMUNE DI SASSARI MONICA SPANEDDA In the context of the movie industry our objective is to create a new high quality cultural perspective, which should be easily accessible for a wide audience. We would like Sassari and, more in general, different areas in Sardinia, to become a reference point and an attraction for the audience, for professionals and for enthusiasts. The aim of our “Sassari Città del Cinema” is precisely this. It is important to work to endorse the art of filmmaking and for this reason we need to nurture the culture of filmmaking among people of all ages. Therefore it is also fundamental to support the growth of alternative forms of expression, such as independent, low budget filmmaking or documentary, all on an international level. We need to create a network of high level collaboration in Italy and in Europe and we also need to endorse and promote cultural identities, new talents, training and working opportunities. The Sardinia Film Festival, during its ten years of activity, has succeeded in creating good partnerships locally and on a European level. Credit to the organizers for bringing to Sassari the latest trends in European and worldwide filmmaking and for representing the culture and identity of Sassari and Sardinia in the rest of the World.

L'obiettivo che ci siamo posti è costruire una nuova prospettiva culturale di alta qualità e accessibilità al mondo del cinema, rivolta a un'ampia platea. Vorremmo che Sassari e il territorio diventassero riferimento e attrazione per spettatori, appassionati e professionisti. La nostra visione di “Sassari Città del Cinema” va verso questa direzione. Si deve lavorare per valorizzare l'arte cinematografica con la diffusione della conoscenza in tutte le fasce d’età, favorendo l’integrazione dell’offerta con altre forme ed espressioni alternative: cinema indipendente, cinema straniero a basso budget, cinema documentario. È fondamentale creare una rete di relazioni con realtà di spessore in Italia e in Europa, valorizzare e promuovere l’identità, favorire la produzione di nuovi talenti, opportunità di formazione e occupazione, quindi anche un indotto. Il Sardinia Film Festival, in dieci anni di attività, ha tessuto una rete di contatti e rapporti con le realtà europea e locale. Agli organizzatori il merito di aver portato a Sassari le ultime tendenze del cinema europeo e mondiale e l'immagine e la cultura di Sassari e dell'Isola nel mondo. A tutte e a tutti una buona visione.

IL SINDACO DI VILLANOVA MONTELEONE

QUIRICO MELONI Even in 2015 Villanova Monteleone hosts the section of the Sardinia Film Festival dedicated to documentaries, awarding the best Italian documentary in competition. The Documentary Film Festival is now at its third edition and thanks to the collaboration between our County Council and Cineclub Sassari the level and originality of the documentaries in competition is becoming higher and higher. Other peculiarities are the format and the venues of this festival. The event consists of three days (this year between the 20th and 22nd of August) full of screenings, debates, meetings and chats with the authors, photo and painting exhibitions and much more. Everything happens in the exhibition centres Su Palatu and Sa Domo Manna, but also outdoors, in corners, squares, roads and even on staircases in the historical centre. This scenery offers unforgettable emotions and captures the attention of aficionados and visitors, in a journey that combines culture with the charm and beauty of our outdoors natural stages. Even this time the Documentary Film Festival will certainly offer a mixture of unique sensations that will be with the audience for three days and then forever in their hearts.

Anche nel 2015 il paese di Villanova Monteleone ospita il Festival del Documentario, inserito nel circuito del Sardinia Film Festival, con l’assegnazione del Premio Villanova al miglior lavoro italiano in concorso. Giunto alla terza edizione, grazie alla collaborazione fra il nostro Comune ed il Cineclub di Sassari, si va sempre più caratterizzando per l’originalità della proposta artistica e la qualità dei documentari presentati. Un altro elemento di peculiarità è rappresentato dalla formula organizzativa del festival e dagli spazi nei quali è presentato. La manifestazione si articola, dal 20 al 22 agosto, in una tre giorni di proiezioni, dibattiti, incontri con gli autori, chiacchierate serali, mostre fotografiche, di pittura, e altro ancora. Il tutto proposto negli eleganti spazi espositivi di Su Palatu e di Sa Domo Manna, nonché all’aperto negli angoli, piazzette, scalinate in selciato e piccoli slarghi del Centro Storico di Villanova. Uno scenario che offre indimenticabili emozioni e che cattura l’attenzione dell’appassionato o del semplice visitatore, in un percorso che coniuga cultura, fascino e bellezza dello spazio-palcoscenico del centro abitato villanovese. Anche quest’anno il Festival del Documentario saprà sicuramente offrire quel mix di sensazioni uniche, che vi accompagneranno durante tre giorni che rimarranno scolpiti per sempre nel vostro cuore.

IL SINDACO DI BOSA

LUIGI MASTINO Bosa is delighted to be part of such a prestigious project as the Sardinia Film Festival. Our idea is to host the section of the festival dedicated to animation, with screenings, debates and side events happening in the historic centre of the town. This charming environment will be the ideal venue for this important event, which is scheduled for the first week end in September (3rd, 4th and 5th). At that time of the year Bosa still welcomes a considerable amount of tourists, generally interested in cultural events such as an animation festival. The tourists will be able to join our citizens, which certainly will attend and appreciate the festival. Once again Bosa will be able to show all its interesting and evocative features to a big audience which, we are sure, once again will understand and appreciate the extraordinary beauty of our town.

Bosa è ben felice di poter collaborare ad un progetto di grande prestigio come il Sardinia Film Festival. L’idea di questa amministrazione è quella di ospitare la sezione dei film d’animazione con proiezioni, dibattiti ed eventi collaterali all’interno del centro storico cittadino. Uno scenario unico e di grande fascino sarà la cornice ideale per questa manifestazione cinematografica. Le date sono quelle del primo fine settimana di Settembre, nelle giornate del 3-4-5. Un periodo che normalmente vede ancora un buon flusso turistico costituito da persone attente e sensibili ad iniziative culturali quali appunto un festival di cinema d’animazione. I turisti potranno “mischiarsi” ai nostri concittadini che sicuramente apprezzeranno e prenderanno parte allo svolgimento di una tale rassegna. La città di Bosa potrà così, ancora una volta, trovare l’occasione per presentarsi nei suoi aspetti più significativi e suggestivi al grande pubblico che ha sempre dimostrato di riuscirne a cogliere ed apprezzare le sue straordinarie bellezze.

IL RETTORE DELL'UNIVERSITÀ DI SASSARI

MASSIMO CARPINELLI The edition of the Sardinia Film Festival we are just about to inaugurate is a special one, and not only because it is the tenth. As the Rector of the University of Sassari I am pleased to renew the collaboration of our Athenaeum. We will be at the forefront with our students, which will be part of the special panel of judges and will be involved in making short documentaries with and without interviews. I also want to mention the award dedicated to the memory of Federico Lubino, the first European Young Filmmakers Meeting and the Sardinia Film Festival Tour, which will bring the culture from Sardinia all over Europe. Sardinia film Festival means young local talents and young talents means University of Sassari. Enjoy the festival

Quella che stiamo per inaugurare non è un'edizione del Sardinia Film Festival come le altre, e non solo perché è la decima, la prima a doppia cifra. Come Rettore dell'Università di Sassari sono lieto di rinnovare la collaborazione del nostro Ateneo. Saremo in prima linea con gli studenti dei nostri corsi di laurea, coinvolti nella giuria speciale e nella realizzazione di interviste e di servizi video. Voglio anche citare il premio dedicato alla memoria di Federico Lubino, il primo meeting dei giovani film maker europei e il tour del Sardinia Film Festival che porterà l'immagine dell'Isola in Europa. Dove c'è il SFF ci sono i giovani talenti locali e internazionali e dove ci sono i giovani talenti, c'è l'Università di Sassari. Buon festival a tutti.

IL DIRETTORE DELL'ACCADEMIA DI BELLE ARTI "MARIO SIRONI" DI SASSARI

ANTONIO BISACCIA Short films work in mysterious ways. One of those is the fruitful collaboration between the Sardinia Film Festival – the most important short film festival in Sardinia – and the Accademia di Belle Arti “Mario Sironi” – the only university level institution for high quality education in the field of Arts in Sardinia. For this edition our students have been involved in the selection of the best experimental short movies. It is right in the area of experimentation that the different languages, when they are out of the box, can meet. And the Accademia di Belle Arti, being a school that educates to research, can guarantee that across-theboard perspective which is also typical of experimental cinema. Our students have also accurately examined the section video art (the name of which is more successful than its results) and they have done the job with an incisive attitude, focussing their attention on the dynamics of exchange between the different forms of art.

Le vie del cinema corto sono infinite. Tra queste c’è la proficua collaborazione tra il Sardinia Film Festival – il festival del cinema corto più importante in Sardegnae l’Accademia di Belle Arti “Mario Sironi” – unica struttura per l’Alta Formazione Artistica nell’isola. Quest’anno i nostri studenti sono stati coinvolti nella selezione dei migliori corti sperimentali. Proprio nell’area della sperimentazione s’incrociano i linguaggi artistici fuori dagli steccati tra le arti. E l’Accademia di Belle Arti, nella sua dimensione di formazione alla ricerca, può garantire quel taglio obliquo e trasversale che permea e illumina di sé il cinema corto a caratura sperimentale. Anche la videoarte (termine più fortunato dei suoi stessi prodotti) è stata oggetto di scelta accurata da parte dei nostri studenti che, con incisivo piglio critico, hanno focalizzato la loro attenzione sulle dinamiche di scambio tra le arti.

IL PRESIDENTE DELLA FONDAZIONE SARDEGNA FILM COMMISSION

ANTONELLO GRIMALDI Sassari has always been very lively from the cultural point of view, both on a regional and a national level; and the audience in Sassari has always proved to be particularly competent and sensitive while recognizing and appreciating excellence in several areas, including filmmaking. Nonetheless, apart from some valuable but rare small festivals and screenings, nobody had ever been able to create an event that would deal with filmmaking and with everything revolving around it with stability. This up until 2006, when the members of Cineclub Sassari created the Sardinia Film Festival. Thanks to their commitment and their passion the festival in ten years has become a well-established event, the excellence of which is now acknowledged on a national and international level. There is an extra merit in all of this, and this is the fact that at the centre of the festival are not feature films but short movies, a genre often undervalued by the national – but not by the worldwide – market. The short film sector every year helps tens and tens of professionals in the industry. Therefore the people who created and keep working for the SFF deserve to be highly commended. Happy tenth birthday and even more wishes for the next one-hundred years!

La città di Sassari è sempre stata a livello regionale, ed anche nazionale, un luogo di grande vitalità culturale; e il pubblico sassarese si è sempre distinto come uno dei più attenti nel saper apprezzare le eccellenze artistiche in vari campi, cinema compreso. Eppure, a parte alcune meritorie ma sporadiche rassegne e proiezioni, in città non si era mai riusciti a creare un evento che si occupasse stabilmente del cinema e di quello che ruota intorno ad esso. Questo fino al 2006, quando i membri del Cineclub Sassari hanno creato il Sardinia Film Festival che in dieci anni, grazie al loro lavoro ed alla loro passione, è diventato una manifestazione culturale d'eccellenza radicata nella città, ma ormai piena di riconoscimenti a livello nazionale ed internazionale. Con un merito in più: aver fatto tutto questo dedicandosi al cortometraggio, forma espressiva sottovalutata dal mercato nazionale -ma non nel resto del mondoche però ogni anno aiuta la crescita di decine e decine di professionisti del settore cinema. Quindi grandi lodi a chi ha creato e porta avanti il SFF, tanti auguri per i suoi primi dieci anni, e ancora di più per i prossimi cento!

IL PRESIDENTE FICC FEDERAZIONE ITALIANA DEI CIRCOLI DEL CINEMA

MARCO ASUNIS “Federazione Italiana dei Circoli del Cinema” (FICC) is an active part in the X edition of the Sardinia Film Festival (SFF). This year we have introduced a special award, which directly involves the audience of all the cineclubs of “Centro Regionale Sardo” and several other cineclubs in Italy. The panel of judges will be the audience of all the involved cineclubs. The awarded film will be the one which best represents the taste and sensitivity of this new audience. We believe this is for us the best way to support and acknowledge the generous work made by Cineclub Sassari, which has recently become part of FICC and has been involved for ten years in important battles in the interest of the whole filmmaking community.

La Federazione Italiana dei Circoli del Cinema (FICC) partecipa attivamente alla X edizione del Sardinia Film Festival (SFF) attraverso un premio speciale, coinvolgendo direttamente il pubblico dei circoli del Centro Regionale Sardo e di altri circoli della penisola.La giuria sarà il pubblico dei circoli del cinema. Il premio sarà concesso al film che maggiormente rappresenterà lo spirito e la sensibilità di questo nuovo pubblico. È tale partecipazione il modo più diretto e concreto per sostenere il lavoro del Cineclub Sassari, di recente affiliatosi alla FICC, e riconoscergli un decennale generoso impegno nelle battaglie unitarie dell'associazionismo culturale cinematografico.

IL CINECLUB DI SASSARI

Al Cineclub Sassari ci occupiamo di produzione, catalogazione e diffusione al pubblico di opere cinematografiche. Siamo nati a metà del secolo scorso, nel 1951, in un periodo in cui in tutta Italia si moltiplicavano le associazioni di cinefili, molte delle quali diedero vita, insieme a noi, alla Federazione dei Cineclub Italiani (Fedic). I primi registi del Cineclub Sassari, i “pionieri” del dopoguerra, furono Nando Scanu, Bruno Ricci, Silvio Bredo, Pinuccio Fara, Arturo Usai, Aldo Widmar, Domenico Arru, Benito Castangia. Tutti loro aderirono al Neorealismo, realizzando, con pellicole 16 millimetri, filmati sulla vita nelle città di Sassari e Alghero e altri, più ambiziosi, girati nelle campagne e sui monti, che provavano a raccontare la società agropastorale o il banditismo. Abbiamo sempre considerato il cinema uno strumento importante di conoscenza, da condividere con quante più persone possibile. Per questo motivo, a metà del Novecento abbiamo collaborato al programma di alfabetizzazione culturale della Società Umanitaria di Cagliari, culminato con la fondazione della Cineteca Sarda. Oggi, 64 anni dopo, continuiamo con la passione di sempre ad alternare la realizzazione di cortometraggi alla promozione di rassegne e all'impegno nelle scuole. Dal 2006 organizziamo il Sardinia Film Festival, il più importante concorso internazionale in Sardegna dedicato ai cortometraggi, che tra i numerosi riconoscimenti ha anche il Premio della Presidenza del Consiglio dei Ministri e le Medaglie della Presidenza della Repubblica, della Presidenza del Senato e della Presidenza della Camera dei Deputati. Nel 2011 abbiamo inaugurato la nostra Mediateca, la prima aperta a Sassari, dove cataloghiamo e conserviamo i corti di tutte le edizioni del festival, e Spazio Cinema: cinema da fare, cinema da vedere, un laboratorio didattico per i ragazzi appassionati del grande schermo.

Cineclub Sassari is interested in production, cataloguing and spreading of movies to the audience. We were born in the middle of past century, in 1951. At that time, throughout Italy many cinema fans’ associations were increasing, and many of them were going to get together, along with us, into Federazione dei Cineclub Italiani (Fedic). Our early directors, the After-War Pioneers, Nando Scanu, Bruno Ricci, Silvio Bredo, Pinuccio Fara, Arturo Usai, Aldo Widmar, Domenico Arru, Benito Castangia, join to Neorealismo. They made short movies about urban life in the cities of Sassari and Alghero, and others, more ambitious, in the countryside about shepherds or the banditry. From our beginnings, we consider cinema an important means of cultural knowledge, that has to be shared with as many person as possible. Therefore, in the 50’s of past century we collaborated to the cultural education program of Società Umanitaria in Cagliari, that has culminated in the founding of Sardinian Film’s Library. Today, 64 years after, we still fondly continue to make short films, to promote festivals, to work with schools. Since 2006 we organize the Sardinia Film Festival, the most important Sardinia’s international competition dedicated to short movies. The contest gained the representative prize of Presidency of Ministers’ Cabinet and the Medals of the Presidency of the Republic, Presidency of the Senato and Presidency of the Chamber of Deputies. In 2011 we opened a Media Library. It was the first created in Sassari and contains short movies from all the past editions of Sardinia Film Festival. We have also opened an educational workshop for kids fond of cinema, called Spazio Cinema: cinema da fare, cinema da vedere.

“SPAZIO CINEMA” Volete rivedere i cortometraggi di questa e delle edizioni passate del Sardinia Film Festival? Li trovate tutti nella Mediateca del Cineclub. Fiction, documentari, video-arte, animazione: li abbiamo raccolti e catalogati nella nostra sede a Sassari (catalogo al sito www.cineclubsassari.com). La nostra mediateca, la prima aperta in città, è un luogo di documentazione per gli appassionati di cinema e per gli studiosi. È un punto di riferimento in una città come Sassari, sede di un’Università e di un’Accademia di Belle Arti che dedicano tanto spazio ai linguaggi visivi. La mediateca è diventata uno strumento importante anche per le scuole e per le associazioni. Da noi insegnanti e operatori culturali hanno trovato idee e sostegno per organizzare rassegne su tematiche importanti. La mediateca è nata con una forte vocazione sociale, in un quartiere periferico molto popolato, in gran parte da studenti, ma con scarse offerte culturali. Siamo partiti da 10mila film e continuiamo a crescere anno dopo anno. Da noi trovate il cinema amatoriale più recente e i giovani registi esordienti, insieme alla filmografia completa dei grandi registi mondiali e a libri e a riviste dedicati al grande schermo. Al Cineclub pensiamo anche ai giovanissimi. Per loro c’è Spazio Cinema: cinema da fare, cinema da vedere, un laboratorio dove i ragazzi sono, di volta in volta, spettatori di rassegne cinematografiche adatte alla loro età e “apprendisti dei mestieri del set”. E abbiamo realizzato anche un’area riservata agli strumenti che hanno preceduto il cinematografo, con lanterne magiche e altre meraviglie.

Fiction, Documentary, Video Art, Animation: we have collected and catalogued them in our headquarter in in Sassari (catalogue on www. cineclubsassari.com). It is the first film library created in Sassari and it is a area where movie fans and scholars can come and gather information about cinema. Our Media Library is a reference point in Sassari, a town whose University and Academy of Fine Arts are fondly interested in visual languages. Media Library has become a fundamental means for schools and associations. Teachers and cultural operators find in our archives ideas and support to plan movie views focusing on a social background. Film library was born endowed with a strong social vocation, in a highly populated neighbourhood in which many students live, but that lacks cultural offering. We started with 10.000 titles, but the number of movies continues to grow year after year. We are able to provide you with the latest non-professional cinema trends and the debutant filmmakers’ works, the masterpieces of the great directors, books and magazines dedicated to the cinema. Cineclub also cares about the youngsters. For them there is Spazio cinema: cinema da fare, cinema da vedere, a workshop where they can watch movies suitable to their age and learn how to work on set. There is also a special area where it is possible to see the early type of image projector, the magic lantern, and other wonders.

IL SARDINIA FILM FESTIVAL

IN EUROPA Da qualche mese il Sardinia Film Festival ha iniziato un tour in Europa che lo sta portando a stringere una rete di collaborazioni con altri Premi internazionali di cortometraggi, sotto il patrocinio della Farnesina. Per noi il cinema è, prima di tutto, un dialogo tra culture diverse; così, da bravi ambasciatori, andiamo a vedere come funzionano gli altri festival dell’Unione Europea e raccontiamo la nostra esperienza decennale. Con i partner, scambiamo selezioni di film e ci confrontiamo un po’ su tutto: organizzazione; criteri di selezione; temi più sentiti dai film maker delle varie nazioni; sostegno dei governi al cinema. Favoriamo gli scambi, i viaggi e le collaborazioni tra i giovani autori dell’U.E. Soprattutto, agevoliamo l’ingresso sul mercato dei film maker: ogni festival ha, infatti, un database online -consultabile da produttori, critici o semplici appassionati- aggiornato edizione dopo edizione con i nomi degli autori, i titoli e le sinossi dei film, i paesi e gli anni di produzione. È un “work in progress”, che si arricchirà col tempo di nuovi elementi e di nuove idee. Intanto, per la X edizione, i nostri partner sono venuti a trovarci, portandoci alcuni film selezionati nei loro festival. Nelle prossime pagine trovate altre notizie su di loro. A few months ago the Sardinia Film Festival has started a European tour, which is creating a network of partnerships with different international filmmaking competitions, with the patronage of Farnesina. For us filmmaking means first of all dialogue between different cultures and, behaving as good ambassadors, we want to understand how other short film festivals and filmmaking schools work, and we want to share our ten-year experience. With the partners we exchange film selections and ideas about everything: organization, criteria for the selection, most common film subjects in the different countries, support that governments give to the industry. And above all we try to endorse exchange, travelling and collaboration between young European authors. We are still “work in progress”, and with time new elements and new ideas will come. Now, for the X edition, our partners have come to visit, each with a programme selected from their festivals. In the next pages you can find days, times and information about them. For the moment we can tell you their names: the first is a filmmaking school, the prestigious Baltic Film and Media School of Tallinn (Estonia), where our journey started last February. The others are four important short film festivals: the Corona Fastnet Short Film Festival from Schull, in West Cork (Ireland); the FIKE-International Short Film Festival from Evora (Portugal); the Psarokokalo International Short Film Festival from Athens (Greece); the Edinburgh Short Film Festival from Edinburgh (Scotland). Questa è un’edizione davvero speciale per il Sardinia Film Festival, che spegne le sue prime 10 candeline. Abbiamo iniziato la nostra avventura qui a Sassari nel 2006: il nostro obiettivo era, ed è, valorizzare i giovani che si accostano alla regia e aprire in città una finestra sul cinema mondiale. La voglia di fare era tanta, un po’ meno audace la scommessa sul futuro. Però anno dopo anno l’entusiasmo ha prevalso sulle difficoltà, grazie all’impegno dello staff e dei volontari, alla risposta positiva dei film-makers, all’apprezzamento del pubblico, alla generosità dell’Università di Sassari che ci ha messo a disposizione la sede del Quadrilatero. E, non ultimo, grazie al sostegno degli sponsor e ai riconoscimenti delle istituzioni locali e nazionali. Tante conferme hanno permesso al SFF di ampliarsi con eventi collaterali diffusi tutto l’anno, con il festival del documentario di Villanova Monteleone e quello dell’animazione di Bosa, con una serie di collaborazioni europee. Oggi il SFF fa parte di una grande rete di amici locali e internazionali. E tutto questo si rispecchia nella X edizione, che dal 21 al 27 giugno propone 43 cortometraggi selezionati tra i 900 iscritti, eventi collaterali, proiezioni speciali. I primi amici che incontriamo

sono i musicisti dell’Orchestra Jazz della Sardegna: insieme a loro, la sera dell’inaugurazione, accogliamo il pubblico con il cine-concerto Jazz a Cinecittà dedicato ai grandi registi e ai compositori di colonne sonore degli Anni Sessanta. Poi, dal 22 al 27 torniamo nella nostra sede del Quadrilatero per le proiezioni pomeridiane e serali e qui si uniscono a noi altri amici: i rappresentanti dei festival europei nostri partner, venuti a portarci alcuni film fuori concorso. L’ultima sera chiudiamo con le premiazioni e con la visione del corto vincitore del David di Donatello, Thriller di Giuseppe Marco Albano. Abbiamo anche due eventi speciali. Il primo è il Meeting dei Giovani Film-makers europei (dal 25 al 27), in contemporanea con la presenza al festival di buyers di importanti network televisivi della U.E. L’altro è il cine-concerto Il cinema delle avanguardie (il 23) a cura del Liceo Classico Musicale D.A. Azuni. Anche quest’anno il festival ha più di una giuria. Quella internazionale (Jane Dolan, produttrice; Joao Paulo Macedo, direttore del FIKE-International Short Film Festival; Maurice Seezer, compositore di musiche per film) per le categorie Fiction italiana, Fiction internazionale, Documentario internazionale. La Giuria dell’Accademia di Belle Arti per 22

i generi Video-arte e Sperimentale e quella di Scienze della Comunicazione per la sezione Back to the Land e Scuola (oltre i 18 anni). Infine, un premio riservato ai film-

maker sardi è dedicato all’indimenticato Federico Lubino, mentre il Premio del Pubblico F.I.C.C. ha per giurati gli spettatori dei Circoli del Cinema di tutta Italia.

This is a really special edition for the Sardinia Film Festival, which is going to blow off its first 10 candles. We started our adventure in Sassari in 2006: our objective was, as it is now, to endorse the young people with an interest for filmmaking and to open a window onto the worldwide cinema industry. The goodwill was a lot, while the future was a gamble that made us feel a bit less brave. But one year after another the enthusiasm has prevailed over the problems, thanks to the commitment of the staff and the volunteers, thanks to the positive response of the filmmakers, to the appreciation of the audience and to the generosity of the University of Sassari, which has allowed us to use the “Quadrilatero” as our main venue. And, last but not the least, thanks to the support of all the sponsors and to the acknowledgment from the local and national institutions. So many confirmations of success have allowed the SFF to grow with side events happening all year round, with the Documentary Film Festival in Villanova Monteleone, with the animation festival in Bosa, and with the creation of several partnerships in Europe. Today the SFF is part of a large network made of national and international friends. And all of this has become clear in the X edition which, between the 21st and the 27th of June is going to offer 43 short films selected among the 900 submitted, many side events and special screenings. The first friends we are going to meet are the musicians of Orchestra Jazz della Sardegna: with them we are going to welcome our audience in a special opening ceremony which has the form of a movie-concert called Jazz a Cinecittà. Then, between the 22nd

and the 27th, we are going to be back in our main venue, the “Quadrilatero”, for all the afternoon and evening screenings. More friends are then going to join us: the representatives of our partner festivals in Europe will introduce some of their best films, here out of competition. On the final evening the festival will end with the Award Ceremony and with the screening of the short film Thriller, by Giuseppe Marco Albano, which has won the David di Donatello Award. For the first time we are going to host the European Young Filmmakers Meeting (between the 25th and the 27th), while the festival will also be attended by buyers from important TV networks in the EU. The second movie-concert will be Il cinema delle avanguardie (on the 23rd) which has been conceived and will be performed by the students of Liceo Classico Musicale D.A. Azuni. Even this time the festival has got more than one panel of judges. The international panel (Jane Dolan, producer; Joao Paulo Macedo, director of the FIKE-International Short Film Festival; Maurice Seezer, composer in the film industry) is going to award the sections Italian Fiction, International Fiction, International Documentary. The panel of Accademia di Belle Arti is going to award the genres video-art and experimental, while the panel of Scienze Politiche is going to examine the sections Back to the Land and school (over 18). Two more prizes are going to be awarded: the Premio Federico Lubino, an award reserved for the Sardinian filmmakers, and the people’s choice award Premio del Pubblico F.I.C.C., for which the audience of 12 cineclubs in Italy has been involved.

Le nostre “prime” 10 candeline le spegniamo al tramonto in uno dei posti più suggestivi di Sassari: il Parco di Monserrato. Qui, circondati dal verde e alla luce delle stelle, brinderemo con tutti gli amici che ci hanno seguito da quel 2006 che adesso, citando Wim Wenders, sembra “così lontano, così vicino”. Insieme a noi festeggia anche un’altra storica associazione molto amata dal pubblico, l’Orchestra Jazz della Sardegna, che proprio nel 2015 compie 25 anni. Faremo quindi un doppio compleanno nel segno della musica e del cinema, intitolato Jazz a Cinecittà. Nel parco più scenografico di Sassari rivivranno i suoni e le immagini che, negli Anni Sessanta, diedero vita all’epoca straordinaria della commedia all’italiana. Fu un periodo di registi-mito come Mario Monicelli, Dino Risi, Nanni Loy, e tanti altri, e di geniali musicisti che composero per loro colonne sonore indimenticabili. A quegli artisti e a quel periodo dedichiamo un cine-concerto che intreccia scene di film memorabili alle musiche cult di Piero Piccioni ("Un italiano in America", "Fumo di Londra"), Armando Trovajoli (“Sette uomini d’oro”), Riz Ortolani (“Il sorpasso”). Dirige il musicista e compositore Marco Tiso, che per l’occasione ha arrangiato tutti i brani su misura per la straordinaria Orchestra Jazz della Sardegna.

We are going to blow off our first 10 candles at the sunset in one of the most suggestive places in Sassari: Parco di Monserrato. Here, surrounded by nature and under the starlight, we will make a toast with all the friends that have been with us since 2006 which now, quoting Wim Wenders, seems “Faraway, so close!”. Another important organization will join the celebrations; this is the beloved Orchestra Jazz della Sardegna, which is going to be 25 years old right in 2015. Therefore we will have a double birthday party, with the presence of music and cinema, called Jazz a Cinecittà. The sound and the images that characterized the extraordinary époque of Commedia all’Italiana in the Sixties will revive in the most beautiful park in Sassari. That was the time of legendary directors like Federico Fellini, Mario Monicelli, Dino Risi, Nanni Loy and many more, and it was also the time of gifted and inspired musicians which created unforgettable soundtracks. To all of them we dedicate a movie-concert which associates memorable scenes to cult pieces by Piero Piccioni ("Un italiano in America", "Fumo di Londra"), Armando Trovajoli (“Sette uomini d’oro”), Riz Ortolani (“Il sorpasso”). The musician and composer Marco Tiso, who has arranged all the music especially for the extraordinary Orchestra Jazz della Sardegna, will direct the performance.

PAOLO BANDINU

Quest’anno abbiamo una nuova, bellissima sigla realizzata per noi dal videoartista Paolo Bandinu. La vedrete tutti i giorni all’inizio e alla fine delle proiezioni e sarà come guardare un cortometraggio in più, perché è una storia-flash che in pochi istanti accende l’immaginazione. Non vi sveliamo altro, ma siamo certi che vi conquisterà. Intanto, vi presentiamo l’autore. Noi lo conosciamo dal 2013, perché proprio qui al festival si aggiudicò una menzione speciale con il video Al di là del mare. Paolo Bandinu è nato a Sanluri trentuno anni fa. Ha studiato arte al liceo artistico di Cagliari e nelle Accademie di Belle Arti di Sassari e di Firenze, prima di trasferirsi a Berlino, attratto dal suo ambiente artistico sperimentale. I video che realizza sono brevi storie di animazione su base pittorica, seguono molteplici suggestioni e non concedono mai soluzioni univoche e rassicuranti. Riflettono sul quotidiano con la logica astratta e le tinte forti dei sogni, seguendo una partitura musicale che ne amplifica il valore emotivo. Paolo Bandinu ha partecipato a numerose mostre e progetti internazionali. Uno dei più interessanti è 100x100=900, organizzato dal Magmart di Napoli, che ha coinvolto cento videoartisti di tutto il mondo. Ogni video è dedicato a un anno del secolo scorso e tutti insieme raccontano il Novecento. Il progetto, realizzato nel 2013 per il 50° anniversario della nascita della videoarte, ha viaggiato in 20 nazioni.

We won’t reveal any more details, but we are sure you will be mesmerized. For the moment, let us introduce the author. We have known him since 2013 because in that edition of the SFF he gained a special mention with the movie Al di là del mare. Paolo Bandinu was born in Sanluri thirty-one years ago. He studied arts at “Liceo Artistico” in Cagliari and in “Accademia di Belle Arti” in Sassari and in Florence. After that he moved to Berlin, which is a very inspiring city for many experimental artists. Paolo’s movies are short stories built using the technique of pictorial animation; they follow multiple suggestions and never give just one reinsuring solution. They make the audience think about everyday life using the abstract logic and the strong colours of dreams, also thanks to the music scores that magnify the emotional value of the stories. Paolo Bandinu has taken part to many exhibitions and international projects. One of the most interesting is 100x100=900, which was organized by Magmart in Naples, and involved one hundred video artists from all over the World. Each video was dedicated to one specific year of last century and all together they describe the 1900s. The project, realized in 2013 for the 50th anniversary of the birth of video-art, has travelled in 20 different countries.

Il Sardinia Film Festival, nella sua decima edizione, prevede per la prima volta un Premio del Pubblico F.I.C.C. - Federazione Italiana dei Circoli del Cinema. La collaborazione tra le due realtà, formalizzata con l’adesione alla Federazione del Cineclub Sassari, promotore e organizzatore del Festival, e con la sua partecipazione al Congresso Nazionale F.I.C.C. tenutosi a Cagliari nel 2014, ha portato alla costituzione di questo Premio come espressione del coinvolgimento diretto del pubblico al Festival: 12 Circoli hanno organizzato le proiezioni, da Cagliari a Bitti, da Meana Sardo ad Adria, nel Veneto, e dal Molise alla Sicilia, con il coinvolgimento di quasi 100 animatori e animatrici F.I.C.C. votanti. The Sardinia Film Festival, in its tenth edition, for the first time is going to confer the people’s choice award F.I.C.C. (Federazione Italiana dei Circoli del Cinema). The partnership between these two entities has been officialised with Cineclub Sassari joining F.I.C.C. and attending F.I.C.C. National Congress in Cagliari in 2014. As a result, this Award has been introduced to directly involve the festival audience. Twelve cineclubs have organized the screenings, from Cagliari to Bitti, from Meana Sardo to Adria in Veneto, from Molise to Sicily, also involving almost 100 entertainers, all voting to choose the winner. DELLE AVANGUARDIE(CINE-CONCERTO) Il Sardinia Film Festival, e il Cineclub che lo organizza, dedicano grande attenzione ai ragazzi e alle scuole. Pensiamo che il cinema –con le sue tante componenti: visione, suono, elaborazione del soggetto, costruzione dello spaziosia uno strumento formidabile per la crescita, non solo culturale ma prima di tutto interiore dei più giovani. Per questo, in tutte le edizioni creiamo un evento insieme ai ragazzi. Quello di quest’anno si intitola Il cinema delle avanguardie ed è un omaggio sonoro e visivo ai registi dadaisti del Novecento, realizzato dal Liceo Classico Musicale D. A. Azuni in collaborazione con il Cineclub Sassari. L’appuntamento è martedì 23 giugno alle 18 nell’aula magna del liceo. L’ensemble dell’istituto, diretto da Andrea Bini, sonorizza la proiezione di cinque opere cult delle avanguardie storiche: Anémic Cinéma (1925) di Marcel Duchamp, Rhythmus 21 (1921) e Vormittagsspuk (1928) di Hans Richter, Retour à la raison (1923) di Man Ray, Entre’acte (1924) di René Claire. Con l’aiuto dei docenti Francesca Deriu, Antonio Papa e Massimo Masia, gli studenti hanno composto quasi tutte le musiche, tranne quelle di Entr’acte, realizzate nel

1924 dal celebre compositore Eric Satie. I film, senza sonoro e lunghi tra i 3 e i 20 minuti, sono costruiti con un montaggio “ritmico” di elementi che è già di per sé musicale. Da qui hanno preso spunto Filippo Fraghì per le musiche di Anémic Cinéma; Vittorio Ranella per Rhythmus 21; Fatou Sourang per Retour à la raison; Mattia Ximenes e Ruben Mura per Vormittagsspuk. The Sardinia Film Festival and the Cineclub that organizes it care for children, students and schools very much. We believe that the art of cinema – with all its components such as sound, vision, development of a script and construction of a set – is a very valuable tool that can help the youngsters with their cultural and above all interior development. That’s why every year we create a side event working with the students. This time the project is a musical and visual homage to the Dada artists of the 20th century and the title is Il cinema delle avanguardie. It has been realized by the students of Liceo Classico Musicale D. A. Azuni in collaboration with Cineclub Sassari. The performance has been scheduled for Tuesday the 23rd of June at 6 pm in the auditorium (aula magna) of the school. The school musical ensemble, directed by Andrea Bini, will accompany the screening of five cult movies of the historical avantgarde: Anémic Cinéma (1925) by Marcel Duchamp, Rhythmus 21 (1921) and Vormittagsspuk (1928) by Hans Richter, Retour à la raison (1923) by Man Ray, Entre’acte (1924) by René Claire. La nona edizione del Psarokokalo International Short Film Festival si tiene a Atene e in altre località della Grecia nel mese di luglio.Il Premio, organizzato dall’associazione no-profit Kyklos, non prevede una giuria ufficiale. Il vincitore viene nominato dal pubblico, che vota il film ritenuto migliore alla fine di ogni proiezione.Tra le novità di quest’anno, c’è la sezione Architecture Film Day, dedicata ai cortometraggi che parlano di architettura e design nelle isole e nelle zone rurali e agricole. Tutti i corti iscritti in concorso vengono conservati nella mediateca del festival, che raccoglie già più di 26 mila film.

The nineth edition of Psarokokalo International Short Film Festival will take place in Athens and in several other venues in Greece in July. The competition, organized by the non-profit organization Kyklos, does not have an official panel of judges. The winner is appointed by the audience, thanks to a vote at the end of each screening. This year part of the novelty is the section Architecture Film Day, dedicated to the films revolving around the theme of architecture and design in the islands and in the agricultural and rural regions. All the movies submitted to the competition become part of the festival film library, which is now made of more than 26 thousand films.

The FIKE- International Short Film Festival, directed by Joao Paulo Macedo, has just concluded its thirteenth edition. The competition has taken place between the 9th and 13th of June in three different venueas: Evora, where the festival was born in 2003, Beja and Porto Alegre, three important cities in the Portuguese region of Alentejo. Evora, in particular, has been UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986 and it is the second oldest university town in Portugal after Coimbra. It is exactly the University, founded in 1559, which is one of the main organizers of the short film festival, thanks to its cineclub and together with more non-profit organizations.

ANGLONA ROMANGIA: IL TURISMO IN UN CIAK / TOURISM PROMOTION IN ONE “ACTION!” Il Cineclub Sassari, con i suoi 64 anni di attività, collabora da sempre alla realizzazione di laboratori cinematografici in varie zone della Sardegna. Sappiamo per esperienza che il cinema, soprattutto nei piccoli centri, stimola il dialogo tra generazioni, avvicina antichi e nuovi saperi, dà impulso al turismo. Tutto questo è accaduto anche nei laboratori del progetto realizzato, tra aprile e giugno 2015, dal GAL Anglona Romangia, che ha coinvolto 17 comuni nell’ambito del piano di cooperazione transnazionale “Adding value to community tourism” (“Valorizzare il turismo comunitario”) per la promozione delle risorse locali. Con il Gal e il Cineclub ha collaborato anche la casa di produzione cinematografica Karel nella realizzazione di diciassette video che raccontano altrettanti territori della Sardegna: Bulzi, Cargeghe, Chiaramonti, Codrongianos, Erula, Florinas, Laerru, Martis, Muros, Nulvi, Osilo, Perfugas, Ploaghe, Santa Maria Coghinas, Sedini, Tergu, Viddalba. La direzione è stata affidata ai film-makers Giampiero Bazzu, Emanuel Cossu, Luca Melis, Davide Melis, tutti giovani ma con diversi lavori all’attivo, che sono riusciti a coinvolgere abitanti di ogni età nel ruolo di soggettisti, sceneggiatori, attori e assistenti alla regia. Il punto di partenza è stato il racconto di esperienze individuali e collettive. Il risultato sono 17 micro-film che descrivono ognuno un comune dal punto di vista di chi ci abita, rendendo la popolazione testimonial per i turisti di risorse ambientali, storia e cultura del proprio territorio. In its 64 years of activity Cineclub Sassari has always collaborated to the organization of various filmmaking workshops in different areas of Sardinia. We have learnt by experience that, especially in small villages, the art of cinema encourages the dialogue between old and new generations, creates a relationship between old and new fields of knowledge and promotes tourism. And this is precisely what happened between April and May 2015 in seventeen small towns and villages in Sardinia, thanks to the commitment of GAL Anglona Romangia (Local Action Group for the territories of Anglona and Romangia). GAL Anglona Romangia, with the support of Cineclub Sassari, has led a project part of the transnational cooperation programme “Adding value to community tourism”, which had the aim to endorse local resources. The production company Karel has also given its support to make seventeen video documentaries for just as many towns and villages in Sardinia: Bulzi, Cargeghe, Chiaramonti, Codrongianos, Erula, Florinas, Laerru, Martis, Muros, Nulvi, Osilo, Perfugas, Ploaghe, Santa Maria Coghinas, Sedini, Tergu, Viddalba. The direction of the films has been entrusted to the filmmakers Giampiero Bazzu, Emanuel Cossu, Luca Melis, Davide Melis, all young but rather experienced, who have been able to engage people of all sort of ages in roles such as scriptwriters, actors or 1st ADs. The main idea has been to tell individual and collective experiences. The result has been 17 micro-films, each of which describes a small town from the point of view of the inhabitants, which therefore become promoters of environmental resources, history and culture.

Tutto questo negli spazi accoglienti di “Su Palatu” e nell’incantevole centro storico di Villanova Monteleone, che per tre giorni si trasforma in un palcoscenico sotto le stelle. The Edinburgh Short Film Festival (ESFF), directed by Paul Bruce, is the youngest of our partners, being just five years old. It takes place in November in Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland. Despite the young age, the Scottish competition is very active and full of ideas. This year, for example, the ESFF has established a partnership also with the overseas Trinidad e Tobago Film Festival, which the MovieMaker Magazine mentions as one of the best in the World. Moreover, the EFSS will dedicate a whole evening to documentaries made in China.

Il Cineclub Sassari valorizza le tradizioni della Sardegna, attraverso la presentazione al pubblico di film che ne testimoniano lo straordinario patrimonio artistico e culturale. Quest’anno, ad aprile, come evento collaterale del SFF, abbiamo organizzato il tour sardo del documentario Janas. Storie di donne, telai e tesori a Cagliari, Nuoro, Sassari e Oristano, dove il film è stato accolto da tantissimi spettatori con interesse e curiosità. Intitolato alle fate, le janas, che nella Sardegna del mito ordivano stoffe e destini, il documentario racconta l’arte tradizionale della tessitura sull’isola. Nasce da un’idea di Stefania Bandinu, artista originaria di Oristano e residente a Bologna, in collaborazione con l’associazione Carta_Bianca e gli autori Giulia Boldrini, Giulio Filippo Giunti e Stefano Massari. Janas, come un “road movie” cadenzato dalle musiche di Paolo Fresu e Sonia Peana, è una ricerca artistica e interiore di Stefania Bandinu attraverso i luoghi della Sardegna dove una millenaria tradizione tessile procede di pari passo con la modernità. Stefania incontra artisti e artigiani, come Chiara Vigo, Luciano Bonino, Carolina Melis, Tonello Mulas, e tantissimi altri. Da ognuno riceve in regalo un pezzetto di stoffa. Poi, tornata a Bologna, li assemblerà per costruire i suoi gioielli, dopo aver compiuto un viaggio alle origini per guardare al futuro con occhi nuovi. Cineclub Sassari has always endorsed Sardinian traditions, promoting films that can witness the extraordinary cultural heritage of our Island. Last April we organized a Sardinian tour of the documentary Janas. Stories of women, looms and treasures. This has been one of the side events of the Sardinia Film Festival and the stopovers have been Cagliari, Nuoro, Sassari and Oristano, were the film has been received with interest and curiosity. The title of the documentary comes from the Sardinian word from fairy: in the Sardinian tradition janas were in fact the fairies that would weave canvas and destinies. The documentary tells us about the traditional craft of weaving on the Island. It was conceived thanks to the ideas of Stefania Bandinu, an artist from Oristano who now lives in Bologna, and with the collaboration of “Associazione Carta Bianca” and the authors Giulia Boldrini, Giulio Filippo Giunti and Stefano Massari. Janas represents a journey on the roads of Sardinia, with the stopovers being the places where a thousand – year old textile tradition and modern habits live side by side. Stefania Bandinu meets artists and artisans such as Chiara Vigo, Luciano Bonino, Carolina Melis, Tonello Mulas and plenty more. Each of them gives her a small piece of fabric and when she goes back to Bologna she will use all the pieces to make her own jewellery. This will enable her to use the cultural heritage of Sardinia, coming from the far away past, to look into the future from a new perspective.

KIDS La decima edizione del Sardinia Film Festival ha riservato al pubblico dei più piccoli un ciclo di laboratori didattici svoltisi presso la Ludoteca comunale durante i mesi di aprile e maggio, in cui bambini dai 4 ai 10 anni sono stati introdotti al linguaggio delle immagini in movimento attraverso un percorso di lezioni-gioco che partono dal teatro delle ombre per arrivare ai film dei fratelli Lumiere e di George Melies. L'impegno del Cineclub Sassari nella promozione della cultura cinematografica nel mondo dell'infanzia si sviluppa da diversi anni grazie allo Spazio cinema, che ospita una preziosa collezione di strumenti ottici del periodo del pre-cinema e delle origini e alla Mediateca del cortometraggio, che ha accolto numerose classi delle scuole primarie della città e dell'hinterland, coinvolgendo gli alunni nei progetti C’era una volta il cinema e Telegiornale improvvisato. Among the events of the Sardinia Film Festival, Cineclub Sassari has organized a series of workshops reserved for children between 4 and 10 years old. EYFILM EUROPEAN YOUNG FILM-MAKERS MEETING

Per tre giorni, da giovedì 25 a sabato 27 giugno, il Sardinia Film Festival ospita lo European Young Filmmakers Meeting (EYFILM), il Meeting dei Giovani Film Makers Europei, finanziato dal Comune di Sassari e dalla Fondazione Banco di Sardegna in collaborazione con la Fondazione Sardegna Film Commission. I partecipanti hanno tutti meno di trentacinque anni e arrivano da vari Paesi dell’U.E. Abbiamo preparato per loro una tabella di marcia con momenti di “lavoro” ed altri più “mondani”. Tanto per iniziare, i film-makers incontreranno gli altri ospiti del festival. I primi sono i buyers inviati da importanti network televisivi europei, (Artè France, TV3 Catalunya, Sling Shot) che si metteranno a disposizione dei giovani registi per spiegare quali sono gli elementi che rendono un film appetibile sul mercato. Gli altri ospiti sono i responsabili della Arri Italia, che quest’anno è nostra partner. La Arri, fondata a Monaco di Baviera nel 1917, è uno dei più grandi costruttori mondiali di attrezzature per il cinema. La sua filiale italiana è presente da noi con un angolo prove dove i film maker possono sperimentare telecamere e sistemi di illuminazione a basso consumo energetico. Questo per quanto riguarda il “lavoro”. I giovani registi saranno, però, anche le star degli aperitivi serali con il pubblico, che anticipano le proiezioni, e l’ultimo giorno del festival parteciperanno a una location scouting a cura della Fondazione Sardegna Film Commission. Li porteremo a vedere i luoghi più attraenti del Nord Sardegna, cornici ideali per scene a forte impatto emotivo. E chissà che, prima o poi, non tornino a girare un film proprio nella nostra isola. From Thursday 25 to Saturday 27 June, Sardinia Film Festival entertains European Young Filmmakers Meeting (EYFILM), funded by Comune di Sassari and Fondazione Banco di Sardegna, in collaboration with Fondazione Sardegna Film Commission. The filmmakers we are waiting for are younger than 35-year-old and come from different countries in the U.E. We have planned for them a schedule combining “job” and “social life”. First of all, the filmmakers are going to meet other guests of the festival, such as some buyers from famous European Tv Network, (Artè France, TV3 Catalunya, Sling Shot) that will explain to the young directors how to make their short movie marketable. Arri Italia’s officers are also guests of Sardinia Film Festival, since the firm is our partner. Arri, born in Monaco di Baviera in 1917, is one of the biggest makers of cinema equipment in the world. Arri Italia is setting up a workshop, where the filmmakers will be able to try out video cameras and ecological lighting system. And now, let’s talk about social life. The filmmakers will be the stars in the daily happy hours in company with the audience, that come before the cinema show. And, the last day, we’ll take them on a location scouting, set up by Fondazione Sardegna Film Commission, across the most beautiful regions of North Sardinia, that are also unique, natural scenery for exciting filming. And, who knows, maybe they’ll soon return in Sardinia to make a new movie.

Così nasce il progetto HEROES 202020, per stimolare nuovi processi e nuove competenze, tra il risparmio energetico e la cittadinanza attiva. Si deve agire uniti, coscienti che soltanto la cooperazione di rete può generare solidità. Ricerca e innovazione, sviluppo delle capacità istituzionali, la formazione di nuove figure professionali, l'inclusione sociale e la competitività delle piccole e medie imprese sono per noi, oggi, tutte legate al principio di Sostenibilità. Per questo il ruolo sempre più centrale svolto dalle Film Commission a sostegno dei giovani talenti, degli autori, dei videomakers, delle imprese e delle maestranze locali è strategico. Un ruolo che si sta ampliando e diversificando per abbracciare l’intera filiera nella consapevolezza che il supporto alla produzione non può essere disgiunto da quello alla distribuzione e alla promozione anche in un’ottica internazionale. La presenza delle FC all’interno dei network europei per favorire le coproduzioni ed attrarre risorse e capitali esteri sui propri territori è ormai imprescindibile. Per questa ragione la rete delle film commissione europee qui riunita a Cagliari trova il terreno fertile per elaborare il programma di azioni e di un condiviso codice etico per la produzione sostenibile. L'industria audiovisiva insieme alle altre industrie creative è ancorata ai territori in cui è opera e abbiamo il dovere di proteggerlo, promuovere nuove prassi e metodologie innovative per rendere responsabile e congiunto il lavoro della pubblica amministrazione e del settore privato. Dobbiamo essere generativi e creativi. Perché, parafrasando Noemi Klein, questo cambia tutto.

The awareness that everything has already changed and that our action is long overdue, and has to be responsible, grounded, with a viral awareness and activation of new behaviors and practices of responsible consumption is pervasive and persuasive. The role of film and audiovisual production is central, because thanks to the contamination of languages and imagination, you can create new skills, active participation and responsible action from each citizen and human being in the planet.That's how we created the project HEROES 202020, to stimulate new processes and new skills , including energy saving and responsible active citizenship. We must act together, aware that only a solid network of cooperation can generate strength. Research and innovation, institutional capacity building, training of new professionals, social inclusion and Competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises are all linked to Sustainability. The increasingly central role played by the Film Commission in support of young talents, of authors, video makers, businesses and local workers is strategic. A role that is expanding and diversifying to encompass the entire supply chain in the knowledge that support the production can not be separated from the distribution and promotion in an international perspective. Think about the effects generated by the presence of film commissions within the network European co-productions to encourage and attract foreign capital and resources on their territories. This is why the network of European film commissions gathered here in Cagliari is the breeding ground for elaborating a plan of action and a shared code of ethics for sustainable production. The audiovisual industry along with other creative industries is anchored to the territories where is operates and it is our duty to protect it, promote new practices and innovative methodologies to make the public and the private sector work together responsibly. Il Fastnet Short Film Festival ha debuttato nel 2009 a Schull, un pittoresco borgo di pescatori nella contea di Cork, all’estremità meridionale dell’Irlanda. È diretto da Helen Wells, si svolge abitualmente verso la fine di maggio (quest’anno dal 20 al 24) e ha come motto: “Il nostro villaggio è il nostro schermo”. Infatti nel paese, completamento privo di cinema, i cortometraggi in concorso si proiettano nelle sale pubbliche, nei bar, addirittura sulle facciate dei palazzi. E dopo la fine del Fastnet gli abitanti del paese, grazie a un capillare sistema wifi, possono continuare a guardare i film su telefonini e laptop, collegandosi al sito www.fastnetshortfilmfestival.com.

The Fastnet Short Film Festival debuted in 2009 in Schull, a picturesque fishing village in County Cork, at the far end of Southern Ireland. It is directed by Helen Wells, and normally it takes place at the end of May (this edition between the 20th and 24th). The motto of the festival is “Our Village is Our Screen”. And in fact no cinemas can be found in the village, but all the films are screened in public venues of all kinds, including bars and even building facades. Da quest’anno il Sardinia Film Festival è anche a Bosa con una sezione interamente dedicata ai cortometraggi di animazione. Per tre giorni, dal 3 al 5 settembre, gli appassionati del genere potranno liberare la fantasia con le ultime novità italiane, europee e mondiali per quanta riguarda le stop-motion, i disegni animati, le elaborazioni grafiche al computer e tantissime altre tecniche. Le proiezioni occuperanno, durante tutta la giornata, le vie e le piazze di Bosa, in un tour ideale che coinvolgerà gli spettatori nella scoperta degli angoli più caratteristici della cittadina e delle proposte più sorprendenti dell’animazione mondiale. For the first time this year Bosa is one of the venues of the Sardinia Film Festival, with an itinerant section dedicated to animation short movies. For three days, from the 3rd to the 5th of September, the connoisseurs of this genre will be able to let their imagination run wild while watching the latest Italian, European and worldwide productions involving stop-motion, graphic animation, computer animation and many more techniques. Moviementu-Rete Cinema Sardegna joins Sardinia Film Festival also this year and opens a debate about “The law about cinema is looking to the future”. Moviementu links audiovisual workers and were born two years ago just during the 8th edition of SFF, in order to ask for the accomplishment of the regional law of 2006, by means of fit resources and suitable deeds. That law could strengthen not only the cultural development but also the economic growth of the entire Sardinia. The cinema indeed needs professional workers and gives rise to employment, draws investments, makes the most of territory. However, the regional law of 2006 needs to be updated. For that reason Moviementu presents a survey, made with the University of Cagliari, suggesting some modifications in favour of the cinema’s workers. In the near future, Moviementu is going to invite other cinema’s associations to join a common front to obtain a sweeping reform of the regional law about cinema.

Anche quest’anno al Sardinia Film Festival ritorna Moviementu-Rete Cinema Sardegna per una giornata di dibattiti, proposte e discussioni dal titolo “La legge cinema guarda al futuro”. L’associazione, che riunisce gran parte dei lavoratori sardi del settore audiovisivo, è nata proprio qui al Festival due anni fa con l’intento di chiedere una piena attuazione, con risorse idonee e strumenti esecutivi efficaci, della legge regionale del 2006. Una legge che, se adeguatamente applicata, potrebbe contribuire allo sviluppo non solo culturale ma anche economico di tutta la Sardegna. Il cinema, infatti, richiede varie professionalità e crea occupazione, attrae investimenti, valorizza il territorio e la sua identità. La legge del 2006, però, avrebbe bisogno di essere aggiornata e, a questo scopo, Moviementu, presenta uno studio realizzato con l’Università di Cagliari che propone sostanziali modifiche a favore dei lavoratori del settore. Il passo successivo sarà invitare le altre associazioni di cinema a aderire a un fronte comune che porti a una definitiva riformulazione della legge.

E proprio grazie a Michele e al suo desiderio, la questione degli operai di Taranto risalterà agli occhi di tutti, in un incredibile girotondo finale sulle note di “Thriller”. Synopsis The film is set in Taranto, a Southern Italian city worn out by pollution and uncertainty about the future. Michele, 14 years old, walks around lightly, dancing like his idol Michael Jackson. When his father tells him he cannot accompany him to an audition because of a demonstration at the factory he works for, Michele has a breakdown. But a boy’s dream can be stronger than the adults’ struggles. ALBANO È nato a Cisternino (Brindisi) nel 1985. Ha frequenta l’Accademia Internazionale per le Arti e le Scienze dell’Immagine dell’Aquila e la Facoltà di Lettere e Filosofia dell’Università di Parma. Nel 2008 ha fondato l’associazione Basiliciak per promuovere il Cinema Lucano. Ha diretto i cortometraggi “Il cappellino” e “XIE ZI”, entrambi finalisti al Giffoni Film Festival, rispettivamente nel 2009 e nel 2010; e “Stand by me”, vincitore del Nastro d’Argento 2012. Ha esordito nel lungometraggio con “Una domenica notte” (2011), prima di ritornare al corto nel 2013 con “AnnA”. Ha vinto il Premio Troisi come regista emergente italiano.
