In October, Wes made a presentation on the origins of Miranda-like warnings at the University of Colorado School of Law symposium entitled “Cautions and Confessions: Miranda vs. Arizona After 40 Years,” commemorating the fortieth anniversary of the Miranda decision. The symposium included keynote speaker Yale Kamisar and presentations by Albert Alschuler, Margareth Etienne, Mark Godsey, Judge Morris Hoffman, Richard Leo, John Parry, Jacqueline Ross, Bruce Smith, George Thomas III, and Melissa Waters. Wes’ presentation will be forthcoming as an article in the TULANE LAW REVIEW. Wes has recently appeared twice (and will likely appear at least a third time) on the CBS affiliate offering commentary on the local Kevin Eckenrode murder trial. P R O F E S S O R R O B E R T P O W E R made a presentation in May at the Middle District of Pennsylvania’s Bankruptcy Law Conference on the subject of “Constitutional Issues in the 2005 Bankruptcy Act.”

Bob also made a presentation on the “Pinochet Case” and the increasing globalization of criminal law at the Law and Society Association Conference in July. PROFESSOR CHRISTOPHER R O B I N E T T E is currently working with Jeffrey O’Connell as co-author on a book on tort reform to be published by Carolina Academic Press. PROFESSOR JUDITH RITTER,

working with Professor Arlene Rivera Finkelstein, helped organize and lead a group of Widener Law students in their travel to New Orleans in January 2007 to provide assistance to inmates that had been unavailable as a result of the Katrina disaster.

P R O F E S S O R A N D R E W S T R A U S S gave the Henry Usborne Memorial Lecture on March 8, 2006, to members of the British Parliament in the Houses of Parliament in London. The title of his speech was, “Taking Democracy Global.” Then, on March 10, Andy presented “Are Present Global Institutions Still Relevant?”in Athens, Greece, at the New School of Athens Conference entitled “Beyond the Millennium Declaration: Embracing Democracy and Good Governance.”

On March 31, Andy presented “Pursuing International Trade Remedies for the Problem of Global Warming” on a panel at the Annual Meeting of the American Society of International Law. On April 6-8 Andy chaired the Widener University School of Law Symposium, “Envisioning a More Democratic Global System.” On December 5, 2006, Andy lectured at Yale Law School on “Toward a More Democratic Global System.” P R O F E S S O R C AT H E R I N E W A S S O N

was elected to serve a second four-year term on the editorial board of the JOURNAL OF THE LEGAL WRITING INSTITUTE. She was also appointed chair of the newly-created Teaching Resources Committee of the Legal Writing Institute and has been invited to serve on the Membership Task Force for the Association of Legal Writing Directors.
