A lo largo de más de diez años de nuestra revista, hemos tenido el placer de conocer mujeres trabajadoras incansables, creativas, profesionales, visionarias… Damas emprendedoras que desarrollan su propio negocio de cigarros, representan marcas, cosechan tabaco, dirigen fábricas, tienen sus propias marcas de cigarros, intervienen exitosamente en la producción, dirigen la administración de las fábricas, de organizaciones internacionales...en fin, mujeres con fuerza, libres, empoderadas, felices.

Inspired by International Women’s Day, which is celebrated every March 8 around the world, CIGARRO DOMINICANO want to pays tribute, in this digital edition, to all working women and especially to the Ladies of the Tobacco Industry.

Throughout more than ten years of our magazine, we have had the pleasure of meeting skilled, resilient, and tireless women, creative, professional, visionary workers... Entrepreneurs ladies who develop their own cigar business, represent cigar brands, grow tobacco leaves, cigar factories managers, have their own cigar brands, handled the production process, run international organizations… In short, women with strength, free, empowered, happy.

Estoy muy orgullosa de que todas seamos parte de esta industria y nos acojamos mutuamente para explorar cada vez más una industria históricamente dominada por los hombres. Como cofundador de E.P. Carrillo y Casa Carrillo, me siento muy orgullosa de tener una fábrica de más de 115 mujeres marcando la diferencia cada día.

El futuro nos depara oportunidades y seguiremos celebrándolo juntos aprendiendo cada vez más sobre esta industria y disfrutando de los cigarros premium.

Felicitaciones a todas las mujeres de la hermosa industria tabacalera en todo el mundo. Estamos marcando cada vez más nuestra presencia en lo que alguna vez fue un campo dominado por los hombres.

Es de destacar que las primeras mujeres independientes en España fueron las tabaqueras, mujeres que trabajaban en la industria tabacalera. Somos parte de esta familia desde hace más de 25 años y actualmente tres mujeres participan en nuestro negocio. Soy Maribel González de Bilbao, España, y soy orgullosamente propietaria de Estanco Cava Urquijo 21. Con gran orgullo represento a La Flor Dominicana en los eventos de la Embajada de la República Dominicana en España.

Congratulations to all the women in the beautiful tobacco industry worldwide. We are increasingly marking our presence in what was once a male-dominated field. It’s noteworthy that the first independent women in Spain were the cigar makers—women who worked in the tobacco industry. We have been part of this family for over 25 years, and currently, three women are involved in the business. I am Maribel González from Bilbao, Spain, and I proudly own Estanco Cava Urquijo 21. With great pride, I represent LFD at events of the Dominican Republic Embassy in Spain.

El 8 de marzo aplaudimos calurosamente los logros en materia de derechos que mujeres líderes y asociaciones que nos precedieron, persiguieron y alcanzaron con gran determinación. Gracias a dichos logros, hoy las mujeres gozan de una merecida presencia en las actividades públicas, económicas y sociales, siendo todos estos aportes de gran valor.

Desde Tabacalera Palma les envío un abrazo lleno de alegría y esperanza. Tu fuerza, coraje y sabiduría son mi inspiración diaria. Sigamos iluminando cada rincón, siendo faros de luz y esperanza en cada espacio que habitamos.

Resultados del estudio de la Asociación Internacional de Productores de Tabaco sobre las Mujeres en la Agricultura a nivel global

En este día que la mujeres compartimos para celebrar y celebrarnos por nuestra labor, nuestro compromiso y todos nuestros esfuerzos que generan, a nivel global, una importante contribución desde todos los ámbitos de negocios, quiero dedicar mis palabras a las mujeres en el sector del tabaco.

Lamentablemente, el papel de la mujer en el sector del tabaco, como en la mayoría de los sectores, está por un lado infravalorado y por otro escasamente estudiado. No

conocemos el perfil de las mujeres tabacaleras en las diferentes regiones donde se cultiva el tabaco y con ello los frutos que generan sus esfuerzos, son diluídos en el resultado final donde historicamente hemos puesto todo el enfoque en el productor masculino.

El mensaje de las mujeres debe llegar más allá del simple reconocimiento. Propongo un nuevo punto en la agenda de los actores que retienen más poder en la cadena de valor del tabaco que respete el mismo nível de inclusión

de las mujeres en las sostenibiidad de nuestro sector. Pasemos ¡sea utilizado para crear imágenes fictícias que no pasan de un simple gesto sin cualquier resultado.

Desde la Asociación

Internacional de Productores de Tabaco (ITGA por sus siglas en inglés) no desisteremos en nuestros esfuerzos para traer a las mujeres del lugar en la sombra que ahora ocupan. A vosotras que educais generaciones futuras, mi admiración y mi reconocimiento en este día.

On this day that women share to celebrate and celebrate each other for our work, our commitment and all our efforts that generate an important contribution at a global level from all areas of business, I want to dedicate my words to women in the tobacco sector.

Unfortunately, the role of women in the tobacco sector, as in most sectors, is on the one hand undervalued and on the other hand poorly studied. We do not know the profile of women tobacco farmers in

the different regions where tobacco is grown and therefore the fruits generated by their efforts are diluted in the final results where historically we have put all the focus in the men inputs.

Women’s message must reach beyond simple recognition. I propose a new point on the agenda of the actors who retain more power in the tobacco value chain that respects the same level of inclusion of women in the sustainability of our sector. Let’s take action and

not allow the so-called ‘Women’s Empowerment’ to be used to create fictitious images that are nothing more than a simple gesture without any result.

At the International Tobacco Growers Association (ITGA) we will not give up on our efforts to bring women from the shadow place they now occupy. To you who educate future generations, my admiration, and my recognition on this day. Do count on ITGA!

HA LANZADO DOS REVISTAS IMPRESAS DEDICADAS A DAMAS DE LA INDUSTRIA TABACALERA

Con motivo de la celebración del Día Internacional de la Mujer de marzo del año 2021, CIGARRO DOMINICANO lanzó una revista impresa enfocada en mujeres que trabajan en la industria tabacalera. Nuestra idea fue dar a conocer mujeres involucradas en este sector, todas con diferentes perfiles y áreas de trabajo diversas.

Esta iniciativa gustó muchísimo a nivel nacional e internacional, de manera que dos años después, para celebrar el 10mo.

Aniversario de CIGARRO DOMINICANO, volvimos a lanzar otra revista impresa orientada al tema de la mujer en la industria tabacalera, entrevistando a 10 mujeres con diferentes responsabilidades dentro del sector, a las que se unieron otras 10 selectas damas con sus calurosas felicitaciones por nuestro aniversario.

En esta edición digital de marzo 2024, deseamos recordar estas dos extraordinarias ediciones y presentarlas a los lectores que no tuvieron la oportunidad de leerlas en su momento, esperando que con esta rememoración honremos una vez más a cada una de estas damas que nos brindaron su tiempo y que dieron luz e inspiración a muchas otras.

HAS LAUNCHED TWO PRINT MAGAZINES

DEDICATED TO LADIES OF THE TOBACCO INDUSTRY

On the occasion of the International Women’s Day celebration in March 2021, CIGARRO DOMINICANO launched a printed magazine focused on women who work in the tobacco industry. Our idea was to introduce women involved in this sector, all with different profiles and diverse work areas.

This initiative was very interesting worldwide, so two years later, to celebrate CIGARRO DOMINICANO’s 10th Anniversary we launched another printed magazine focused on the women in the tobacco industry topic, interviewing 10 women with different responsibilities within the sector, who were joined by another 10 select ladies with their warmest congratulations on our anniversary.

In this digital edition of March 2024, we wish to remember these two extraordinary editions and present them to readers who didn’t get them before, hoping that with this remembrance we honor once again each of these ladies who gave us their time and who gave light and inspiration to many others.
