Popular and cooperative banks have always acted with the aim to develop the economy of their territories of reference.

GIOVANNI DE CENSI CIBP PRESIDENT

„ The model of popular and cooperative banks continues to grow all over the world because it has never betrayed to the fundamental „ principle of proximity.

Proximity gives to our banks an important advantage: the direct knowledge of our clients

The CIBP is a platform that enables its members to exchange opinions, solutions and ideas.

During an assessment process, this advantage allows us to take in consideration other aspects than those already formalized in the financial statements. It also establishes a trustful relationship and a virtuous mechanism, especially with SMEs, which can help us to better manage major crisis. Several times I saw how it is important the

DIGITALIZATION LABORATORY With our CIBP Digital Lab we intend to position the Confederation as a critical component to our member banks‘ ongoing search for ways to identify and pursue growth opportunities as well as, deliver value to our customers, members and regional economies. CIBP labs analysed, observed and explored the main elements of a novel Business Model envisioned by its members with the 2015 CIBP study, entitled “Designing Tomorrow Cooperative and Popular Bank” to lead the future and face the coming challenges. In 2016, CIBP launched the Global Research on Augmented Collaborative Economy 2016 (GRACE16), conducted by Dr. Fotis Filippopoulos of Shakesteer. The research consisted of an empirical expert online survey in the first stage and explored the topic during two strategic Hackathons (guided strategic dialogues) among a group of highly selected experts, in the second stage. The Hackathons took place during the 18th International Cooperative Studies Conference (IGT/ ICCS) in Lucerne and the 2016 International Summit of Cooperatives, in Quebec City.

7TH FORUM CO-OPERATIVE BANKS AND SME’S On November 9th the “Forum Co-operative Banks and SMEs” took place in Brussels. This event was organized by CIBP in co-operation with EACB, UNICO and UEAPME and it was hosted by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC). Since its inception, the event has evolved and became a reference at EU level as a platform that offers a comprehensive overview on SME’s financing. It takes on board the views of a wide variety of stakeholders, such as EU regulators, SME’s representatives and Co-operative Banks. It enhances a constructive dialogue to take a pulse on the evolving situation of SME financing across Europe. This year’s event was aligned with the CIBP activities on financial innovation and registered 200 people and addressed the topics “Hybrid lending platforms” and “Innovative SME Financing with EFSI”. A number of CIBP member banks representatives participated as speakers and attendees. After the Forum, CIBP organized a Fintech Workshop on 10th November 2016 to provide a closed forum for senior decision makers to consider and query the implications of increasingly open business models in finance.
