Modernizing a 100-Year-Old Correctional Facility BUILDING MARKET In December 2018, Cianbro began work on modernizing and expanding the Maine Correctional Center (MCC) in Windham, Maine, a medium security prison built roughly a century ago. While the $116 million project includes renovating existing buildings, the main improvement is the construction of new facilities on the existing campus. Construction includes six new buildings, renovation of one existing dormitory, and demolition of six existing buildings. One of the project’s most significant challenges has been renovating and expanding the facility while it remains 100 percent active. “In addition to the Correctional Center remaining open throughout construction, there has been a lot of moving parts, which means that communication and planning have been critical to our success,” says Lyndsy Moen, Project Manager. “Our team has been incredibly mindful of that throughout the entire project, and overall our coordination with the Department of Corrections has really helped create a smooth process for both parties.”

The project is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2022. THE CHATTER
