November 9, 1948 A local contingent of VFW members called on the President around noon. They invited the President to attend Armistice Day ceremonies, gave him three guyaberas (Cuban made Irish linen sports shirts) and presented him a medal commemorating the President's visit at their National Convention in Miami a few weeks before. Truman received another congratulatory letter, this time from a man with whom he'd shared responsibility for waging and winning World War II, Winston Churchill.
