Graduate Thesis | 2013 | Jorge Ozorno Track(ed) is an investigation in addressing issues of re-using, re-adapting, re-vitalizing, re-connecting, re-envisioning and re-igniting a city, utilizing its rich historic heritage and existing infrastructure through a series of urban strategies and proposals to promote future economic and urban growth. The thesis project proposes a series of urban strategies initiating a revitalization of Roanoke, Virginia’s urban fabric by re-purposing existing railroad and commercial infrastructure into a multi-purpose campus focused on social and technological innovation connecting to the city through a network of urban green ways. Reinventing Roanoke’s source of economic and social advancement encourages the re-connection between the city of Roanoke and its residents, igniting future expansion along the existing steel fabric. The campus provides Roanoke as well as neighboring cities and college campuses the opportunity to share invaluable tools, resources and training, facilitating and sustaining future growth.

The intent of the retail store focused on developing a new concept design for the client, Charlotte Olympia, an eccentric high-end fashion designer. The concept was based on the designer’s style and research on Los Angeles in the 50’s.

The intent of the concert hall design is to immerse and heighten the inhabitant’s awareness and understanding of music through its architecture utilizing elements prevalent in the minimalist style of music. Qualities inherent in minimalist music include: repetition (constant harmony) / pattern / balance / phase shifting / gradual transformation / additive / subtractive. The user can gradually experience the music from visualizing and listening to warm-up sessions to enjoying the concert performances. The adjacent spaces that protrude through the space frame are arranged to provide balance in elevation, floor plan, and in section.

Chinatown Artist Center
Master’s B-2 Studio | Fall 2009 | Soo Im The Chinatown Artist Center uses the tectonic idea from the previous two projects, interlocking solid elements that create and are connected through areas of void. The site is located near the Leather and Financial Districts and within Chinatown. The site analysis focused on automotive and pedestrian circulation as well as views from specific areas surrounding the given site. The Chinatown Artist Center houses a gallery/performance area, a loft space and studios for performing and visual artists. This artist center would become the focal point of these varying districts and providing the community with a place to gather, participate and observe the process of creating performing and visual art.

The “Inhabitable Wall” Golf Swing Movement
Master’s A Studio | Fall 2008 | Mila Chun The project began with the investigation of a specific movement in relation to the body. A simple body device was created to further exemplify the relationship between specific elements of the body and their spatial qualities. Using the body device as a foundation, an “inhabitable wall” was designed between the studio spaces, allowing for a physical and visual relationship between each space.
