Four Earn Academic All-District; Four Teams Honored For Academics

Four Coastal Carolina student-athletes were named to their respective sports’ Capital One Academic All-District IV Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Football: Marcus Lott (3.89 GPA in Education) – First Team All-District IV Men’s Basketball: Sam McLaurin (3.48 GPA in Communication) – First Team All-District IV Baseball: Tucker Frawley (3.91 GPA in Physics) – First Team All-District IV Men’s Cross Country/Track and Field: Kyle Kling (3.87 GPA in Marketing) – First Team All-District IV

The Coastal Carolina Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams, the Men’s and Women’s Soccer Teams, the Men’s Golf Team and Men’s Tennis Team were recognized for their excellence in the classroom by their respective coaches associations. Men’s soccer player Cyprian Hedrick was named a NSCAA First Team Scholar All-American, while Marcus Lott and Tim Franklin were named to the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association Academic All-Star team. In addition, Courtney Boe, Jessica Alexander and Brittany Henderson were named to the NGCA All-American Scholar Team; Charlie Winegardner and Sebastian Soderberg earned GCAA All-America Scholar Team honors and Danny Heidecker, Yusuke Kesuda, Leo Christofides and Sam Barr were tabbed as ITA Scholar Athletes.

38 Student-Athletes Earn President’s List Distinction Thirty-eight Coastal Carolina student-athletes garnered perfect 4.0 GPAs to earn CCU President’s List honors during either the fall 2011 or spring 2012 semesters. Coastal Student-athlete ACADEMIC Facts • For the 2011-12 academic year, 179 Coastal Carolina student-athletes posted at least a 3.0 GPA to earn recognition on the Big South Presidential Honor Roll recognition. • In fall 2011, 24 student-athletes posted a perfect 4.0 GPA — earning CCU President’s Honor Roll honors, while 23 accomplished the feat for Spring 2012. • In the spring of 2012, 89 student-athletes earned Dean’s List recognition (at least a 3.5 GPA for the semester), while 100 student-athletes recorded Dean’s List recognitions in fall 2011. • Overall, the mean cumulative GPA for student-athlete in 2011-12 was 2.985, as compared to 2.862 for general degree-seeking students. • The cumulative GPA for all women’s teams was 3.203, compared to 2.969 for female degree-seeking students. The cumulative GPA for all men’s teams was 2.864, compared to 2.741 for male degree-seeking students. • Of Coastal’s 425 student-athletes, 179 (42.1 percent) posted a GPA between 3.0-4.0 for the 2011-12 academic year. • All 10 women’s sports programs have team cumulative GPAs above 3.0 and four men’s sports programs (golf, cross country, tennis and soccer) have team cumulative GPAs over 3.0. • Coastal Carolina tied for the fifth-highest 2010-11 NCAA GSR (Graduation Success Rate — which tracks the graduation rates beginning with the freshman class of 2004) in the Big South Conference at 81 percent. (Radford 86%; Winthrop 86%; Campbell 84%; Gardner-Webb 83%; COASTAL 81%; High Point 81%; Charleston Southern 75%; Liberty 70%; VMI 69%; UNC Asheville 65%.).
