MODULAR DATA CENTERS

T

he genesis of IDC Architects’ modular data center (MDC) approach was to house highly optimized IT solutions in a plug-and-play configurable module available with nextgeneration air mixing technology. The result is a fully contained unit that integrates dense IT solutions such as 1,000 virtual servers in a 15kW/rack. The architecturally focused module design provides an upscale image from the standard ‘shipping container’ solution, along with customizable skin options to integrate with any campus or site location.

System Equipment and Modules • Consolidation and factory assembly of critical components for “plug-andplay” configurations • Flexible and adaptable to scale with customer’s changing requirements • Rapid deployment with factory commissioning • Internal maintenance of all equipment ensures IT environment is never compromised • Component system for joining modules enables creation of secure, weather-tight, multimodule ‘pods’ • Mechanical and electrical systems customizable to site climate and customer requirements

Electrical and Mechanical Systems • • • •

15 kW+ critical power per rack Optional onboard UPS systems available Proprietary, patent-pending air economizer mixing box design Eliminate stratification: ±2°F air temperature variation at full rack face when mixing 90°F return air with up to −30°F outside air • Design at 10,000 CFM to accommodate a 20°F rise across four racks generating 60kW of heat • Supplemental mechanical cooling available for locations where outside temperatures exceed allowable limits for air economizer operation

Systems Tailored to Environmental Conditions • • • •

Direct outside air economization for temperate climates Direct evaporative cooling / humidification DX cooling Chilled water cooling

Performance • Available with multiple levels of reliability • Low PUE of 1.07 in full air economizer mode • Configurations available with four or five 42U racks
