This was the theme of our recent Mother's Day event at the Emergency Shelter to honor the girls & women there and celebrate motherhood. We aimed to inspire & ingrain a positive acceptance of each one there, so they would all feel assured that they were not just valuable, but loved, appreciated & blessed. They wrote up positive affirmations about themselves; they experienced a total makeover from hair, face, nails & clothes. At the end of it all, Steven Lim, a pro photographer took & printed out their pictures for each to keep as a memory of their individual beauty! The girls were also encouraged to team up & perform in vying for the gifts & cash prizes, Adeline Miu got everyone going with Zumba at the start of the event. Lunch by Miracle Grand Hotel & Oishi, was a highlight with both a buffet & Japanese o-bento meals for variety, plus Oishi tea drinks. The girls also received bags of supplies depending on whether they were Moms or Moms to be. There was something for everyone! By the end, the girls felt beautiful & valuable inside & out! A community-conscious group of Grade 11 students From the Bangkok Pattana International School arranged through CTM, an outing for the children From the Emergency Home. They couldn’t have Picked a better location than Funarium which is one Large indoor playground, with various activities from The jungle gym, to ‘rock-climbing’ to painting, arts n’ crafts . It’s activities geared for kids from 2 to 12, and just perfect for ‘Bahn Dek’ — the home for kiddies within the Emergency Shelter.. The teens were each given a child to care for & they ran, jumped, climbed, slid right alongside the kids – having just as much fun! The Funarium hosts provided lunch, an arts project and also organized interactive games for both students & kids. “Aw, can I take this kid home?” was the typical reaction from these senior teens who thoroughly enjoyed the little ones they had cared for. This is compassion — giving from the heart .

Thanks to the sale of goods from our charity Shop at Root Garden, we were able to organise an outing to the Du-sit Zoo for two van loads of children from the Emergency Shelter. Many were experiencing this for the first time. We brought along their favorite sticky rice, somtam & fried chicken & pork for lunch. Then it was a whole afternoon of just enjoying the sights & sounds of nature and the animals!

THANKS to students, Mathilda, Julia &Parth from the KIS International School, the children from the Thanksgiving Home were treated to a great day exploring the fun of science at the Discovery Musuem, the dinosaurs, the giant playground & the illusions of physics! For lunch , we drove over to the nearby Railway Park with its large expanse of grass & water, for a picnic which the students contributed. Then just when we thought it was over, the three generous teens offered to rent bikes for all the kids! What a great outing!

The Bangkok Pattana school seniors also hosted a Halloween party for the15 teens from the Thanksgiving Home on Oct 31. With participation from almost 25 students,, we had more than just one-on-one bonding as students & kids played together. There were handcrafted games & homemade cupcakes! What a creative team! For four hours, students & teens laughed, played & bonded - creating a memory that will stay in many hearts!

Thanks to Centre Acacia (a French preschool),the Emergency Shelter now has a beautiful set of desks n’ chairs for their little guys . Along with the Thanksgiving Home, the shelter also received wooden shelves for the organization of toys & crafts. With more teens & young adults, the TGH has now set up bookshelves, a mini library for their youth and guests. CTM is happy we were able to connect the resources of the schools to meet these needs.

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES: Central Thailand Mission (CTM) is a project under the Thai-registered Haven Foundation (under the Welfare Committee of the Interior Ministry of Thailand), which has affiliations in Australia and the UK. At present, Haven has 23 project partners all over Thailand in 10 provinces. CTM is also recognized & is one of the selected humanitarian aid projects that come under the American human service agency – Family Care Foundation – which is a non-profit, IRS-approved 501 (c )(3) public charity with 70 such special projects in 49 countries. Based in Bangkok for the last 20 years, CTM works to help the disadvantaged in many ways.

Being the bridge between people with the needs & those with the resources Supply of basic essentials of food, water, clothes , school supplies Initiating the sponsorship of major needs & projects especially self-sustaining programs The power of One! — An 11-year-old boy, Luca, set out on a school project to highlight the need for sustainable food resources. He ended up not only raising awareness with his project but also, fundraising on his own to eventually help 10 migrant student communities in Mae Sot with 40 pigs! An amazing boy who’s ready to do what he can to make this a better world for all.

Being an essentially volunteer effort, we would not be able to take on many of these projects as well as cover the basic operating costs of running a centre. To this end, we would like to thank the many friends & corporate partners who have so kindly supported us with gifts, services and contributions.

Providing opportunities & experiences to the disadvantaged Providing assistance to international volunteers who want to give of their time, talents or resources to help others. We have more pics and stories!!
