The Danube’s legend By Maria Buzea, 6 th B A long time ago, the world was different. There was no technology, no shops or anything that we have now. People weren’t living like nowadays, they were surviving. In Europe, people were struggling to obtain food and water. They were dying very young because they didn’t have what they needed to survive for much more than 20 years. Every lake they had, every river that used to exist was dry. It seldom rained, so the crops didn’t get much water, and neither did the animals.

One day, a good fairy called the Danube saw that humans were in need for help. She was extremely sorry for them. She came to them and said: “Do not worry, people! I am here to help you. I have seen your struggles and I don’t think it’s fair that you live such short lives, while us, fairies, live for eternity. From now on, if you need something, just ask for my help. I or other fairies will come to the rescue!”

As promised, the fairies were helping everyone. But there were so many people that needed help, that they couldn’t handle the situation. People started taking advantage of their kindness and asked the fairies to bring them something from the kitchen or do the laundry for them. After months of torture, the Danube stopped worshipping humans and told them: “You were poor and tired and needed help. I thought you were nice and understanding like us, and that you would respect us. You took advantage of us and turned us into your slaves. We can’t help you like this. All we ask for in exchange for our services is the smallest bit of respect. Now, we are leaving and you may be sorry now, but we are not coming back until you prove us that you deserve a second chance.”

After that day, everything was the same as before. Everyone was poor again, except for one or two people who had made lots of profit in the past months, selling crops and animals.

Years passed, and more people had died because of hunger and thirst. Until one day, when the fairies received a letter from a little girl. She was asking for their help, because her father was very ill. He needed treatment soon, or he would pass away. But what shocked the fairies was that she wasn’t asking for them to cure her father, but to help the world, so that no one else had to go through what her family was. The Danube was so impressed! Although, she didn’t want to make the same mistake as last time. Suddenly, she thought of a great way to fix everything!

The Danube told everybody her plan, and everyone seemed happy with it, so they decided to do it. With the help of other fairies, she turned herself into a river, so all the problems could be fixed. Even now, she travels all around Europe with her tributaries, the other fairies, to make everyone happy.

THE DANUBE LEGEND By Maria Tudoreanu ,6 th grade B

In the past, the Danube Fairy was a beautiful and very kind lady. She was helping everyone with what she could. She was buying medicines and new clothes for the poor people. For the rich people and for the kings and queens without children, she was the perfect “daughter”. All the people in the Magic Kingdom knew her for how kind she was!

The villagers left all the chores and went to the king’s palace. When he counted them, he had a big surprise! There were all the people! All 100! After that, he clapped his hands and Danube was a fairy! When the villagers saw her, they got very happy and they named the kingdom DANUBE RIVER.

One day she got sick. All the villagers were very sad because, if had died, they wouldn’t have been happy anymore and she deserved to live forever. When the King heard this, he revealed his amazing power: he could make someone’s wish come true with just one hands’ clap. He said: “In this kingdom there live 100 people. If at least fifty come to my palace by the end of the day, I will make Danube a fairy who will live forever.”
