Dear Parents Intense planning for 2016 is underway on many aspects of the school and the way to improvement is to avoid skipping over events without reflecting on what we can learn from them. While we always aim for perfection we also know that we’ll be wide of the mark in some way or another, but the challenge in that is to get closer next time and invest in working out how to improve. Your role in that process is very important, your feedback helps us to make things better. Some people worry about making comments that seem negative but if that’s the way to improvement it has to be said and heard and acted on. Constructive feedback will always be welcomed here and valued.

A little more praising, a little less jeering, A little more trusting, a little less fearing, A little more patience in trouble and pain, A little less willing at times to complain, A little more kindness worked into strife Are all that is needed to glorify life. A little more honor, a little less greed, A little more service; a little less creed, A little more courage when pathways are rough, A little more action, a little less bluff, A little more kindness by you and by me, And oh; what a wonderful world this would be!

Congratulations to all those families who were involved in the M&D Society’s “Wizard of Oz” performed over the last two weekends. This spectacular production involved a host of people from the St Raph’s family and was notable in featuring performances from actors ranging in age from 5 to 75. A communal project of absolute excellence. Year 10 has returned safely from their Sydney excursion, Year 9 is in preparation for a day of Reflection on Friday, primary students trialling for Summer Sports at Dubbo are safely home and our Cowra contingent is preparing for the annual BLAST at Lake Burrendong next weekend. I expect that these carefully designed experiences are sources of great enrichment and learning for everyone involved. As we head towards the end of November our big focus now is to ensure that the P&F Christmas Fair is a roaring success. The location this year is a little different due to the building site – the rides will still be in the parking lot alongside the church and all the stalls and games will stretch up through the primary playground areas. If you are able to help please register on the P&F website accessed through www.straphaelscowra.catholic.edu.au If not then just th come along on the 27 November and enjoy a great night out for the family.

Sports Uniform Year 4 and 6 Please note change to schedule. Year 4 and 6 will be wearing sports uniform this Wednesday for Physical Activity. They will still wear sports uniform for normal Sport on Thursday. Summer Sports Trials Last Tuesday, eight Year 4 and 5 students travelled to Dubbo for the Summer Sports Trials. A warm day greeted us, with very tough competition the order of the day. At the Touch Football fields, Emma Wilkinson and Daniel Britten made the Bathurst Diocesan team that will travel to Port Macquarie next year. Tennis saw two students make it to the next level. Mikelli Garratt and Scarlet Shepherd will see the sights of Lismore in Week 2 of the new year back at school. No luck at Cricket this year for the St. Raphael's kids, with stiff competition in abundance. Congratulations to our four students who have made Diocesan level for next year. Thanks also to those providing transport to Dubbo last Tuesday.

Earth Hour Update Thanks again to the whole school and staff who have supported the Earth Hour Project to reduce electricity consumption. The bill for the August to October period has arrived, and again the school’s electricity consumption has been decreased to a level 5% lower than the same time last year. Considering the previous trend of increasing electricity consumption, this is a positive result. Well done school! We hope that you have been inspired to participate in Earth Hour at home by setting goals with your family about how you can save electricity. If you haven’t started yet, why not start small, like practicing the habit of turning lights off when you leave the room, or unplugging chargers as soon as you are finished with them. You might remember the Victorian Government ad campaign that used ‘black balloons’ to visualise the greenhouse gas emissions from household appliances.
