St Raphael’s Catholic School Term 4, Week 2/B Newsletter 13th October 2014 O, God, Grant us in all our duties your help; in all our perplexities, your guidance; Dear Parents Thank you to the many members of the St Raph’s family who participated in the Parish Anniversary Celebrations on Sunday and throughout the year. Eight months and such a variety of valuable events has been both demanding and rewarding. Fr Laurie’s vision and leadership throughout has been inspirational – Thank you Laurie.

in all our dangers, your protection; and in all our sorrows, your peace. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, our body, and our blood, our life and our nourishment. Amen. St. Augustine (354-430)

Ex-student of St Raph’s, Greg Bourke was ordained a Franciscan priest and recently celebrated his Golden Jubilee in Papua New Guinea. Sr Pauline Bourke, also an ex-student and Brigidine, is his sister. We pray with gratitude for these good and faithful people who give such excellent example for us to follow. Congratulations to two students who achieved outstanding results (High Distinction) in the University of NSW English Competition - Jeremy Cains and Rory Nixon.

Monday 13

Thank you for your time and input last week in the Parent / Teacher Discussions. For the sake of the good learning of our children, please ensure that you action all those undertakings made during the discussions.

Tuesday 14 Happy birthday to Darcy Kellett and Jessica Savage.

We congratulate Ben Cooley and his new wife Kylie on their marriage last weekend and we keep them in our prayers for their married life together.

Thursday 16 Happy birthday to Matthew Mood. Kindy Start.

Mrs Lorraine Spear, teacher of secondary Science (and wisdom in life) has resigned due to ill health. Significant health improvements have already been achieved and our prayers remain with her and John and their family. We welcome Mrs Nicole Pearce who is taking up Lorraine’s teaching load in Term 4.

Friday 17 Happy birthday to Max Duff. Year 9 Leadership Day. Primary Assembly at 2pm – led by 4J.

In Term 4 we are facing a very serious problem with our Tuckshop – currently there are over thirty gaps in the roster of helpers. I appeal to you to see if you can fill at least one of those gaps. It would be terrible if the number of days of opening per week had to be reduced or the menu had to be modified to a preprepared style of food. Can you please help?

Information about changes of circumstance like address, phone number, family doctor, emergency contact all need to be kept current on the school files – please let us know. School Sports Uniform Recently the P&F Association has been assisting with considerations around our sports uniform and earlier in the year there was a decision made about the sports short being a microfibre material from now on. In addition, a coloured crest is now being embroidered on new sports shorts and polo shirts. After very poor feedback from a web consultation, a working party is being formed this term for direct parent consultation in March / April with a view to final decision about whether we change the whole sports uniform by midyear. Changed Law In NSW Last week all petrol-powered bicycles were banned from being ridden on NSW roads and road-related areas. Please see the link to a webpage which has all of the details about the ban – what is legal and what isn’t. http://roadsafety.transport.nsw.gov/stayingsafe/bicyclists/ pertol-powered-bicycles.html The CROCUS - 2014 The school’s magazine THE CROCUS will again be produced this year. The magazine attempts to cover this year’s vibrant life of the school through photos. The aim of the production team is to have AT LEAST 2 photos of each and every student in the school in the magazine. As such, the magazine serves as a very good historical reference on the growth and development of all students in the school. Orders will be required to be placed by Monday of week 7 of Term 4 – 17th November (although money is to be paid at a later date when the quantity of the order is finalised). Please complete the pre-order form at the end of the newsletter.
