CCMOSC DRESS LIKE A PIRATE DAY BANKSY’S BULLETIN This round we play Brisbane Roar and they have won so many games, not to mention the Grand Final they beat us in the penalty shoot out which we will try and forget. I urge everyone to support our boys, we don’t need to worry about the FFA saga because that’s over now. It’s going to be a good game and Brisbane Roar have Matty McKay and some good players like Corona, Thomas Broich, Henrique and one of our former strikers as a coach, John Aloisi. We have been playing some good football but still a work in progress. The formations are exciting and out win is just around the corner. I would like to wish everyone a merry Christmas and safe New Year, see you all in 2016!

#F3 DERBY COMEBACK On February 10 2008, the Central Coast Mariners recorded one of the most remarkable comebacks in Hyundai A-League history. Were you there to witness this memorable #CCMFC moment? A 3-0 win over the Newcastle Jets in the 2nd leg of our Major Semi-Final clawed us back after conceding a 2-0 defeat in the first leg. We caught up with Central Coast Mariners Legend and goalscorer on the night, Adam Kwasnik to re-live that moment. CCM: Going into the season, was there an expectation that the Mariners could go all the way to the Hyundai A-League Grand Final? AK: To be honest, not really. We recruited quite well that season especially with the additions of Tony Vidmar & John Aloisi which were massive for us but we had a fantastic season winning the Premier’s Plate on the last day of the season so we were quietly confident heading into the finals series. CCM: After losing 2-0 at Hunter Stadium in the first leg, did you think it was all over? AK: With the season we had there was always the opportunity that we could get the result back at home and we were unfortunate up at Hunter Stadium, we missed a penalty and had our fair share of chances but that’s football. The week leading into the second leg was a tough week at training, Lawrie laid

10 10

ccmariners.com.au ccmariners.com.au

down the law and the rest is history. CCM: In front of a practically full Central Coast Stadium, is that one of the best games you have been involved with? AK: No doubt, there have been plenty of times that stadium has been full and absolutely rocking and on that occasion in the second leg of a semi-final it was an amazing atmosphere and full credit to both sets of fans. We put on a fantastic spectacle and did the business. CCM: How did it feel to score a goal on such a massive occasion? AK: It was an amazing feeling and it came as a bit of a shock, I had my fair slice of luck in that particular moment where I managed to skip around two defenders out wide which was pretty poor defending. I had a strike at goal, which I thought I connected well with, but it took a massive deflection and Covic was left stranded at the time. From then on it was just a matter of when we would get our second and on that night our players were on fire across the park and in particular Sasho Petrovski played one of the finest games of his career. CCM: What a team the Mariners had on the park, were you

aware of how quality that team was at the time? AK: Apart from Vidmar and Aloisi coming up which we were all in awe of, the rest of us were very tight knit and we all got on like a house on fire both on and off the field. But if you look back now at where some of those players have gone in Alex Wilkinson, Mile Jedinak and the career Petrovski had in the A-League, I’ve said before I was very blessed to have played with these players and you look at the Mariners team of the decade, a fair few of those players were involved with that squad. CCM: Despite having a Grand Final looming, was the team still able to celebrate after such an iconic win? AK: Absolutely, the fact that it was our greatest rivals in Newcastle there was no doubt that there were a few celebrations that night but they were very brief because we knew in a couple of weeks there would be a Grand Final and surely enough it was Newcastle again and unfortunately on that occasion things didn’t go our way.
